Unhappy Weight fluctuations??

I am curious when you guys weigh your self in the middle of the day how much difference do you see relative to your normal weight? I had a 4 pound difference then later on that night a 3 pound difference I know it wasn't accurate but it kinda made me depressed over the past two days and i haven't been as strict as i should with my calorie counting, but i will get back on track, just wanted a little words of wisdom

Your weight can flucuate quite a bit. It is best to weight yourself only once a week, or once a day at most. That way you won't get discouraged. But make sure you do it at the same time of day each day or week.

I doubled my water intake in January once I started working out and my weight is the same throughout the day, regardless of the time.

My weight dropped to 138.6 from 142 three days ago and that's the only number I've seen on my scale and at the gym.

Time of day no longer matters.... seems the extra water has flushed out my system so that I'm not hoarding any water.

I am usually 5 lbs more during the day/night than I am in the morning when I first get up.

Yeah I can be as much as 5 lbs heavier in the evening than I am the next morning or the previous morning.

Not to be too graphic, but it depends on when you go to the bathroom, how much you've eaten, etc. Obviously if you eat 4 lbs of vegetables...well, you're going to weigh 4 lbs more right after that. Plus the weight of the liquid you washed it down with.

I do what a lot of people do - weigh first thing in the AM, after going to the bathroom, before showering.

lets see...last night I just happened to weigh because I wanted to weigh my son and the only way to do that is hold him and subtract my weight. I was 160.0 last night and 154.4 this morning.

Advice : Do not weigh yourself more than once per day. It just makes NO sense. I've had a 6lb weight fluctuation between the morning and night.

I weigh myself once every few days in the morning, nude. Remember to stay consistent on when/how you weigh yourself. That is the only real way to tell how your progress is going.

For example, I weighed myself this morning and I was 146.6 lbs. I bet if I weighed myself right now I'd be 151 lbs.

Good luck!

This bothers me, too. How do I know what my true weight is?

I only get on the scale once a day. Here is a great link about scale fluctuations

I only weigh myself once a day too. Thanks for that link, I'll think about hydration now.

As with most 'indicators' of slim fitness ... the scale is a way to track progress. It doesn't really matter if it is right or not as long as you can track trends.
Did that make sense?

Yes that makes sense, to look at trends instead of scrutinizing the daily number. After reading that link up there I understand now that my water consumption probably had a lot to do with the day I suddenly gained back a few pounds. Once I get properly re-hydrated things should even out and decline. Fingers crossed!

Default The Scale Lies

I'm working with a cognitive behavorial therapist who specializes in weight loss. One of the things he emphasizes is that the scale will fluctuate wildly in the course of one week so he only has me chart the lows. I only write down a loss, never a gain. Like the last person posted, it's the downward trend over time that you want to see. I always eat below the number of calories my body burns at rest but even still, I sometimes show a gain of 1 to 2 pounds. I don't let it discourage me because I know I'm burning fat and calories everyday that I eat like I'm supposed to. I just call the scale a liar and let it go at that.
