To post the link to my fitDay journal, I first go to User CP and click on Edit signature. In the box where my signature is, I typed FitDay, highlighted it, then I clicked the button that has a globe with a paperclip. This gives me a place to paste a link to my journal. save your signature and it should work...:D

Aww, you are just so sweet to offer a dance free page :) I will make peace with them and *itch no more ;) See, I like winks ;)
So have any of you read body For Life? Is this much different? How? I have not yet purchased the book. I did sit and take the test and read a bit though. I am just wondering if it will be just another book I add to a growing collection I have. Will I really use it? I am meeting with a trainer to learn how to use some equipment. I am wanting to do this. I started today though with a Fast Oxidizer attitude, did well...........most of the day. It all ended in a bowl of cereal though. I wish you could purchase willpower. About Jillian..Who cares if she was 10 pounds overweight, 50, or none!Do you happen to know another author of a fitness book that takes the time to answer questions here? Or anywhere? Bottom line here is she is excellent at what she does. She gets results. She doesn't have to have been obese to know how to get fit! Shes a personal trainer and a dam good one. You have seen what she can do. Who needs to know more than that. BabySteps |
Amen Sister BabySteps! :cp:
...that carrot is so tempting, but I controled myself! ;) |
our goddess Jillian
She had emotional reasons for eating, which is what a lot of us have, and reading about her overcoming that and what's involved was very interesting to me.
As for the "Body for Life" book... I saw it in my boyfriend's book collection and decided to take a gander. Personally, I got a very bad taste in my mouth from it. Oh wait, I wasn't supposed to eat it, was I? I kid I kid. Actually, what made me bitter about it was that whole overly-infomercial attitude. "WHAT IF I TOLD YOU!!".... yadda yadda. I read the plan and it just seemed abso-f'ing-lutely ridiculous. Talk about a set up for failure and massive binge-ing. But that again, is just my personal opinion. Everyone is motivated by different things, but this wasn't something that motivated me in the least. I think it feeds into the "you only need to care about your body and yourself for 6 weeks and then you can stop" mentality that seems to plague a lot of us gals. (And perhaps guys?) I much more appreciate Jillian's sensible approach and mathematical back-up. It made *sense* to me. Maybe before buying, you can pull it off the shelf at your local book store and just sit down nearby and peruse through it and see if it sounds good enough to purchase. She has no "miracle cures" in the book. She warns you right away, if you aren't ready to work HARD at getting in shape, then just put her book back. I'm not working that hard just yet, but you can't pry the book out of my hands! :) *thinking of dancing bananas* |
Hey girls....Isn't there a Body for LIfe thread here at 3FC? I would see if any of the threads make sense or go to the library to check the book out BEFORE you buy it and add to your collection of useless books and dusty videos. I seem to remember that it takes a really high committment to the program and specially timed meals. But hey? if thats for you, then more power to you!! good luck with whatever you decide.

I just wonderd if you who had read both thought that they were alike. I am glad to think that they are not.
I probably should have bought Jillians book when I looked at it. Now there are none to be found here. Biggest loser is out too. Maybe tomorrow? I'm sure they want to get books to the stores soon as possiable. I know BL was encouraging to many and, apparently many bought the book :) BabySteps |
GOOD-MORNING!! I feel great today. I worked out this morning! So, I am feeling like a fit person in the making :)
My gripe has always been "if they would just open a gym closer to me, then I would go" Well, "they" did just that. So, my excuse is gone now. Before this place opened up it was almost a half hour drive to a club. Its so much shorter now. I am excited about it. And, now, I have no excuses. Have a great day everyone! BabySteps |
SmartButt - you're so smart!
SmartButt: I totally understand why your name is SmartButt - :p
Your posts crack me up. BabySteps: Thank you for the inspiration this morning - I needed it! :) My excuses are ALL gone now & it's time to do the work! |
Just a note on BFL. I was a devotee of Body For Life for quite a while. As diets and exercise plans go it was very helpful to me. I still eat by that plan though I have jettisoned the free day/free week. That would be the flaw in my opinion. It got me on my journey to weight lifting and reinforced the idea of several small nutritionally balanced meals a day. I still eat pretty much the same diet, but I go for 5 instead of 6 small meals a day. All that said, W by L is an advanced evolution in terms of the exercise format IMO. And it is tough. I haven't picked it up lately other than to follow what I am supposed to be doing exercise wise, but am feeling the need for the motivational section again. Her way of putting that together spoke to me in a way that BFL never did.
Also, welcome to KC and babysteps and any other newbies I may have missed. |

I HIGHLY recommend this book - it's a great reference! (BTW I always recommend checking a book out from your local library first - also at Amazon.com you can do a "Search Inside" BFLW and get a bit of an idea what is included within ;) pretty cool!) PS - the "Free Day" concept from the original BFL book is *NOT* part of the BFLW book...thank God. |
yeah Mrs Jim!!!..:carrot: ..Ask a question and she know's it for you. How's that for service!!! thankyou for the correct info to help Babysteps.

Everyone seems on the ball today. I have been working really hard since last Tuesday. Today was my weigh in for the first week of my diet. 3 pounds gone!! Yeah!!:encore: I hope to do the same thing next week. If I want to reach my goal weight by June I have to lose 2 pounds a week.
I really need to lose the weight before then. It will be my nine year annivesary and I am going to Florida. (I want to use a carrot here):p I have never seen the ocean and I do not want to be fat. Anyway, I have been eating around 1100 calories a day. I need to start working out too. I still haven't started that part yet. Well, I'm off to watch high school basketball. I'll check back later. |
calorie intake
This brings up something I wonder about. I haven't done extensive research on it, but I know that Jillian mentions the 1200 calorie low-limit, and not to go below that or your body may have trouble losing weight because it thinks it's starving.
Are there other people (doctors, fitness experts, dieticians, etc) who claim you can drop to less, safely? Just curious as to what anyone else out there has found. *doing the veggie dance at my desk* |
I have heard that as well. However, my doctor approved this calorie amount for me. I have problems with my thyroid but not enough for medication so it seems the only way I am successful is to have a very low calorie diet. Once I start exercising I will be able to bump my calorie intake up somewhat. :D
It is very important to consult a doctor or dietician before deciding to go to a low level on calorie intake. I should have mentioned that when I posted.:dizzy: I'm a little on the crazy side today. I hope no one else read my post and assumed it was ok to go that low without a consultation. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.;) |
congrats teacher lady! In case this is still on the no dancing veggies page, I'll give you a normal smilie. :) One concept Jillian introduced in her book that I love is varying your calories from day to day. I have a low thyroid too and in my previous attempt at weight loss (got almost to goal!) I was really obsessed with keeping right at my 1200 calories every day. With varying my calories I've felt a lot more satisfied and can make room for going out to dinner etc. Anyway, congratulations on your weight loss!
