Blue Bombshells - Week 5 Chat

Happy Monday! :p

joyra 06-22-2009 07:14 AM

Hi everyone,

I saw the old QOTD that's a couple days old now: How do I get myself back on track? Well yesterday I was really feeling down, didn't exercise at all and I felt helplessly unmotivated. I got myself into the shower and gave myself a good scrub down... then cleaned the bathroom, did the dishes, cleaned the apartment, etc, etc. I felt SO ENERGIZED from this when before I was convinced I couldn't get myself unglued from the couch. So now I real want to use cleaning as a motivation tool. When I just feel sooo tired, straightening up my lifespace or even myself seems to inject a bit of energy/motivation into me.

I've really been doing a lot of research on low fat diets recently. I don't want to go fat free but I'm starting to rethink some of my food staples. Today I went back through food logs and wrote down all the foods with over 10 grams of fat per serving (or the serving size I ate). Right now my fat percentages are 35-45%. I'd like to get below 30, even below 25%. Some of the high fat foods are also kind of high in calories so it would do me well to keep these items generally out of my diet.

Hope you're all well!

dgramie 06-22-2009 07:33 AM

Wow its been a crazy week and we most likely have another one ahead of us. Hubby has to get labs drawn every few days now and shots if his levels are not right.
I am trying to feed him low calorie, low fat and diabetic diet.I am just eating what i cook for him. The dr wants him on 1500 calories a day and that isnt much food for a man. He is being a real trooper and eating just what i give him. I think he has lost about 13lbs in 9 days..
I lost a pound last week taking me back to my lowest. I did see the scales a bit lower last week but i will get there. Im hoping I can get the next 40lbs off while getting hubby healthy.
hugs to all and be sure and drink water during the heat!!

Soon2BFitChick 06-22-2009 08:44 AM

Dgramie, I am glad he is following orders for his food. I'm not sure my dh would be that diligent! It's great you are so committed to getting him healthy, and like you said, it's good for you too. :cp:

Joyra, I usually stay below 25 fat grms. I notice tho that after you get used to not having the fat, sometimes you get to be too low, which isn't good. I just see that I find all these very low fat foods and sometimes I don't add up enough! :yikes: I also soooo agree with you about cleaning. It does the same thing for me. Smart smart. I don't know why it does but it does. It's like you have more hope or something afterward. :)

Hi Dee!!! Wow, you wake up early huh? My son starts baseball camp so I'm up to make sure we don't sleep thru it. LOL. In summer we don't stay on a strict schedule but have lots coming up now. Btw, you are looking quite snazzy, girly. I like the pic, dunno if I told you yet. :dancer:

As for me, I have been OP for a long time it seems and not losing as much as I thought. Only two lbs less but still. Just taking deeep breaths and telling myself my body is crazy and I can't convince it to be sane so I hafta live with it's weirdisms. Such joy. Ah well, at least I'm still here and haven't gained any! There is always a worse scenario right? :?:

Well, have a great OP day Bluezers!!! And most importantly, Don't Quit the Challenge. Even on your worse day, or week, you need to be here. I know, because every time I'm not here I gain ALOT. How many are not here any longer? I hope we don't lose any more. We all need support to lose! :goodscale:

Bye for now!!!
Selina

dixied 06-22-2009 10:10 AM

Okay, I'm back in every sense of the word.

I think my stuggles lately have been partially caused by overtraining. I took yesterday off completely, and only walked 1 mile on Saturday, and wogged 2 on Friday. This morning I ran 5 miles and my calf didn't hurt at all! Hmmm....maybe there's something to this "rest" thing afterall? :o I was also having a problem with the eating, due in part to a complete lack of desire to cook, and combined with the fact that the panty is almost bare. Sure, I could go to the store, but it's *hot*. I don't want plan a menu, shop, cook, or do dishes. I need a chef and a maid!

I've lost everything I gained during PMS/TOM except 1 pound, but I'm thinking that the 147 I saw a couple of weeks ago was a fluke. I only saw it once, so 148 isn't breaking my heart.....yet.

Selina - Yes, I was up letting the dog out, getting ready to hit the track.

dgramie - Kudos to your DH for taking this seriously. I wish mine would.

joyra - I clean when I'm upset or I when need to think thru things. There is something about cleaning your environment that clears my head. DH can always tell when I'm mad at him, the house is very clean. :D

zinkemomx2 06-22-2009 10:40 AM

Morning everyone.

Food has been okay. It could be better but overall I'm not complaining.

Exercise is back on track today. I ended up taking two days off and then had a real easy run yesterday. My foot felt good still so I will be out for a longer run today. I am sure the two days off did some good.

Weight is sloooowly dropping. Any drop is fine with me though. As long as it isn't going up I'm happy.
***
Selina - Your summer schedule is making me tired.

dgramie - Kudos to your DH for following that strict diet. Mine never would. Not in a million years.

joyra and Dix - You can come clean here any day. Since DH got laid off my schedule has been thrown off. It doesn't seem like anything is getting cleaned. He needs to find a new job soon before the house becomes unrecognizable.

Nixmom 06-22-2009 11:10 AM

Aaaack!

Ugh! I am so far behind girls. And I am the pinball wizard on the scale.

I need read through last weeks thread. I need to go grocery shopping. I need to exercise, clean the house, work a full time job and help get new business of the ground. I am thoroughly overwhelmed and underprepared. Gotta start over this week. Deep breath. Will be back at lunch to see how things are going for everyone else, and to soak up some motivation~ :)

melwolfe 06-22-2009 11:20 AM

Well, I stayed POP last week, upped re-focused my exercise and weighed in this morning at the exact same weight! This makes me crazy, according to my BB I should have lost 2 lbs, but I've lost almost nothing the entire month.

I really really hope I start seeing results again soon. It's just so depressing, I mean if I had binged or not worked out at all or whatever then ok, it's my fault pick up and move one, but it really really sucks when you're doing exactly what you're supposed to do and lose nothing!

Oh well, hopefully this won't last long. Either way, I won't stop and I'll keep doing what I'm supposed to I guess. Something has to give eventually.

maryshady 06-22-2009 11:40 AM

Got up this morning and worked out. Did a 40 min hiit. Scale was way up so I took a freebie. Last week was a wash for me. It's like I set this goal to be in the 160's by the time work was out for summer and I had 4 lbs to lose in two weeks so what do I do eat like mad to get myself back to 178! ugh! I am my own worst enemy. But today is a new day and a new week. Going to see PT tomorrow. Pray for me that she lets me live thru it! lol!! By all descriptions of her she is Jillian's twin sister!

Dgramie-Glad you dh is ok. Kudos to you for being so diligent with his eating plan. I will continue to pray for both of you.

Joyra- I also clean and listen to loud music to get me out of a funk. It really helps to be in control of something and I think that was house cleaning does for me!

Selina-Just keep it up. You will get there sometime. I see you as someone who will not give up, Just keep working it and you will get there.

Dee-Glad you are back with us!

Nixmom-Wow! you are a busy girl! Remember to take care of you first and all the other stuff will eventually fall in place.

Zink-I feel the same way I will take any loss it is always better than a gain. Congrats on your running program. You are doing phenomenal!

Melwolfe-It really sucks when you are doing everything right and you see no results. Just keep working your plan it will come off. I just started wearing my sensewear again today. Hoping I will re-focus me to start going in the right direction again.

Have a great Monday!

bindersbee 06-22-2009 04:56 PM

Sounds like everyone is BUSY! That's a good thing though- gives our hands something to do. I had a bad weekend foodwise so I was lucky to lose at all last week. Don't you hate it when you eat your progress? That's exactly what I did because I WOULD have lost a pound instead of .4. Oh well, that's life. Live and learn and move on.

Of course the hubs didn't work out once, ate worse than I did (but better than he has been the last few months) and he drops nearly 3 pounds this week. Men!

Gekster 06-22-2009 05:36 PM

Good week, okay weekend, but TOM is starting. Luckily my WI is before the weekend, so everything is good. I saw 286! I got my TBL workout and 30 DS in the mail today. Very exciting. Bob kicked my butt in the workout, but I liked it. In-laws arrive tomorrow so I may be scarce this week.

bjeweled 06-22-2009 05:55 PM

well i havent been op at all and the scale shows it. i am almost back up to 200 pounds but i refuse to get there. i started back OP today. graduation, vacations, bronchitis, moving etc brought me to this point but today is a new day.

sorry for the gain i posted bombshells but i will be here more often and promise to contribute to an actual loss.

retiredone 06-22-2009 06:48 PM

Hi, I'm still here but run off my feet with DS's wedding preparations. I've gained weight last week!!! Grrr....Too much baking and cooking. I'm making decorations today and thank goodness I can't eat those. Less than 3 weeks to go and then I'll be back to some kind of normalcy.

Dgramie, glad your DH is on the mend.

I haven't read back posts so I hope everyone is doing their best. Sometimes that isn't what we want but it's the best we can do for our circumstances at the time.

I'll try and post as often as I can but things are getting down to the wire but I'll do at least once or twice a week.

dgramie 06-23-2009 08:27 AM

When it rains it pours. My dad is now in the hospital and in pretty bad shape.

As for hubbys diet..when you hear its life or death and spend days in the hospital its kinda a wake up call. He only needs to love about 40-50lbs. He is lucky that is all he has to lose. He has always been a fast food eater and i guess it caught up with him and clogged the atteries.
Its so nice to know his glucose is under control again.
hugs to all

bindersbee 06-23-2009 08:44 AM

dgramie- sorry to hear about your Dad. These things always seem to happen in groups. I'm glad your dh's mountain to climb is only 30-40 lbs. which is plenty hard but certainly doable.

Melwolf- I've had that same thing happen before. Sometimes it takes a week or two to 'show up' on the scale. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll likely see a big drop in short order.

I had a NSV (non-scale victory). I took my older daughter and little daughter on a bike ride down to the trail. There's a big hill between us and the trail. On the way home we have to climb that hill. I was able to ride up the hill last night without stopping- AND I was pulling a trailer with a 50 lb. kid in it! When I got to the top I realized that I'm in the best physical shape of my life. It was so exciting to realize that. Weight or no weight to lose, I'm in pretty darn good shape and that ALONE feels great!

scarahjs 06-23-2009 09:01 AM

dgramie - My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Not much has been going on. I'm still doing the C25K and trying to eat healthy. It seems like I have been soo busy lately its crazy. In a way I wish summer was over so it wouldn't be so packed with picnics and activities all the time. I missed weigh in yesterday. I did weigh myself just fogot to get on here. So now I only have one more freebie left!!! Have a great day everyone!!!

Soon2BFitChick 06-23-2009 11:47 AM

I'm here! Hope to come back later and do personals. I love personals and want to do them just stay so busy. :(

I lost more!!! I'm so glad I'm losing steadily. It's helping me not get so frustrated. It's not much but it's the right direction. I can only ask for that.

Mary, Thank you. You are determined too. We can get there, together. And with all the other Bluezers, if we never give up, right? I won't give up if you won't. Deal?

Ok, be back soon, big hugs to you all, have a great OP day. Also, later I want to share some things which have been helping me lately and maybe they will help you all as well. And I alwwwways love hearing what is helping anyone else. Plz share!!! Oh and if I forget to post mine, then remind me please. LOL. I have all my kids with me all day so gets crazy. :dizzy:

Ok bye for now! Selina

Newshinyme 06-23-2009 02:12 PM

Hi team!
My brain has been a bit scattered the last few days. Who knew this house hunting affair was so time consuming! LOL
I totally got my deadlines mixed and didn't post my weight for this week...ooops!
But, I was very happy to see that we finally won :) Congratulations team! Let's keep it up for this week :carrot:
Will be back later to actually read all the posts and do personals

trekkiegirl 06-23-2009 03:00 PM

WTG Blue Team! :cheer3: Maybe all that butt-kicking we got helped! You know, get your butt kicked for three weeks and it'll start to come off! :p

Anyhoo...I'm one of the ones that's seeing the weight crawl off...4.6 pounds in one month. I don't know if I got a little "spoiled" 2 1/2 years ago when I was 206 and losing 7-10 pounds a month the first few months. Then I plateaued for a long time, which got frustrating and disappointing. Eventually I stopped trying as much and put 10 pounds back on and hovered there for another year. It's still hard for me to do certain exercises, not because I don't want to, but because I'm nervous about injuries, especially with my knee, which I already did some damage to when I started exercising in 2007. I mean, geez, a week or so ago, I tried to do the modified pushups (the ones where you're on your knees, I can't do the regular ones, not yet, anyway) on my mat and I ended up with 2 black and blues on my kneecaps that night. So now anything I do with knees on the ground I do with a mat and a pillow!

Anyway...I really wanted to be part of this challenge because it's given me something beyond myself/my goals to focus on. The fact that I have to come here and weigh in and that there's an exercise log as well is helping give me that added accountability. :)

SillyGirl 06-23-2009 04:19 PM

GAH! It's so hot here! My weatherbug icon says it's 97 degrees right now.
I'm about to leave to go do some laps in my friend's pool. Ridiculous heat shall not stop me!

me4life 06-23-2009 05:43 PM

it is so hot lately makes me have to drag myself out of the house to do something...but i think they have air at gym

zinkemomx2 06-23-2009 06:40 PM

Congrats Blue! Lets keep up the good work. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to post a decent loss this week. I've probably sweat out a few pounds just today. We are trying not to use the a/c since DH is laid off. We had a high of 90 yesterday and today. Tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter.

Running is going well. I have become the person who is out running in 80* that I used to mock when I drove by with my A/C on high. I'm really loving it far more than I ever thought I would.

Food is okay. I was able to pull enough greens from the garden today to have a little salad. I'm making notes for next year to plant more spinach and lettuce plants. The garden in thriving with this heat after the cool start we had.

SweetScrumptious 06-23-2009 08:33 PM

So I said I was going to do a 5 km walk/jog today but I got a bit sidetrack so that didn't happen.

Good reason to be sidetracked - My boyfriend (of over a year) and I had a mutual agreement to end things. I'm okay about it, I've been thinking about it for awhile and I know its the best thing for us to do.

Tomorrow is my workout day, but I may try to go for that run in the morning before work - if I'm not too tired. And then weight lifting afterwards.

maryshady 06-23-2009 09:09 PM

My dog died today. He was only 2. I am in total shock. I just can't believe this happened. I am not a dog person, have always been a cat person until this little guy came into my life. He was so healthy and happy. We found him in the woods behind our home where he has roamed for the past two years with our other dog. It looks like he just collapsed. No signs of trauma.

Dgramie-So sorry to hear about your dh. I will continue to pray for you.

Here's hoping tomorrow will be a better day.

zinkemomx2 06-23-2009 09:19 PM

Mary - So sorry to hear about your pup.

Newshinyme 06-23-2009 09:55 PM

Oh Mary! I am so sorry
Sweet: Sorry to hear about your news too, at least it seems to me like you are OK, chin up girl!

Idealmuse 06-23-2009 11:23 PM

Mary that's awful!! I'm so sorry.

It was really hot here today... over 92 and humidish. My body bugg says I burned over 4000 calories today between walking to the pool, swimming, and walking to tri-practice (which was at the track today) and then walking home from there. Over 10 miles in total Thats crazy... and there is still 2 hours left in the day!

Congrats to our biggest loser this week. Go Blue.

practiceliving 06-24-2009 01:19 AM

Mary - I am so sorry for your loss.

I'm just trying to stay on top of things while we live in moving box land. Eating pretty well, very excited to get back to the gym next week!! If I can make it through the next ten days (moving, school and work deadlines), then it's time for a whole bunch of FUN things... so I have to just get through it all!

Institches21 06-24-2009 01:22 AM

Mary-so sorry, that's so sad

dgramie-thinking of you-

me4life 06-24-2009 04:38 AM

it is so hot today i am not looking forward to workinging in this heat. i can barely get going as is. one bonus the gym is air conitioned so i'll be stopping by there after work. in the meantime, hope everyone stays cool today.

QOTD-how do you fit exercise in when its so hot outside?

joyra 06-24-2009 06:17 AM

Sweet - ah, so sorry you're going through a hard time. At least it was mutual. I've only had one other serious relationship and I got really depressed when that ended--gained almost 50 lbs. Stay strong!

Mary - I'm so sorry to hear about your dog! :( Wow, lot's of bad news for the Blues today.

QOTD: The only incentive I have to exercise at home is I allow myself to turn the A/C on while I work out. Otherwise it's open windows and fanning myself. Korea is not even as hot as the US.. I'm from Minnesota and it's been above 90 for a long time. Here in Korea it's 80-ish and just starting to get humid.

I am also trying to get in a walk to work. Walking home from work is going to probably cease being a possibility if it's above 90 in the coming months.

Stay strong, Blues!

Nixmom 06-24-2009 08:55 AM

Hi girls.

Still here. Home life and work are breaking me down at the moment. Still haven't caught up on the threads, but wanted to say I'm around and I hope to be back here at latest on Friday ~ my day off ~ to reconnect.

Have a good day.

SillyGirl 06-24-2009 12:58 PM

I need some tips and motivation. I usually do poorly when it gets really hot...[Like 90+ degrees]
It's been getting up to over 100 here, so I haven't been working out nearly as much as I usually do. I tried swimming, but it's either swim in the overcrowded pool or bother my friend and come over every other day to use her pool.
I've been using the fact that I managed to walk around Chicago in a jacket in 80+ degree weather to keep myself motivated, but I think I only managed that since there was over 250 people there suffering just as much as I was. [Great way to explain that little support group. lol] So I dunno...

melwolfe 06-24-2009 01:58 PM

Silly, do you own a wii? There are several "games" that you can use with the wii that provide a great workout and since it's done inside assuming you have AC you should be fine. My Fitness Coach, Golds Gym Cardio, EA Active and even the boxing on the disk that comes with the Wii will provide a decent workout, plus wii fit is pretty good too.

Mary, we had to put our dog of 13 years down a couple months ago. I am so sorry to hear about your dog, it's horrible no matter the circumstances. (Not the little guy I'm holding he's only 1 1/2) Our other dog was a lab/shepherd mix.....I still miss him, he was such a good dog.

Sweet, sorry you're having a hard time right now.

I know I've missed some people but I will try to catch up later.

Soon2BFitChick 06-24-2009 07:39 PM

Hi! How are you all? I'm so sorry Mary to hear about your baby doggy. That's terrible. Big hugs to you,

Melwolfe, forgot to tell you before, I love your pic of you and your puppy dog. So cute!!

Silly girl, omg, I would love to have time for all that you are always doing, so fun!! And helps you lose!! Hmm, I think everyone gets slacky when it's so hot. We broke a record here today in Houston, 104, heat index 108. Never ever has been that hot on this day in June. :flame: Will be about 100 for several more days too. Good news is it makes us drink more water! And not have as much of an appetite. :hun: Hmm, dunno anything else that may help, let's just try to stay in the game, and do something every day, even for 10 mins. Hot outside, but might help us burn more cals! :woops:

Kris, so sorry things are tough, hang in there.

Joyra, omg, I feel for you. I so understand. Fanning doesn't do enough, does it? It's sooo hot here and sooo humid. It is scary! The grass is dying in places where they aren't watering and we are watering alot to keep ours. My tomatoe plants look sad. My kids want to stay in their little pool and stay wet (not too bad in the house but air is on 70 and our unit, which is only 3 yrs old, keeps it at 80 during the day. Everyone around here is saying their a/c isn't working, but it's the heat!!!!! :sp: Can't fight it!!!! Imma take a cold shower again tonight. :swim:

Well, Im OP today again!!! :dancer: Down another 1/2 lb. so far. Yay!! :yay:

melwolfe 06-24-2009 10:46 PM

Thank you! He's my baby! He's such a sweetie (most of the time anyway)

So glad we won this week! Just hope my plateau goes away and I can post a loss this week!

Idealmuse 06-24-2009 10:59 PM

SillyGirl - Maybe some DVDs indoors? Do you have AC?

It's been horrible here and I've just been parking my bike trainer in front of the air conditioner. The treadmill has 2 fans pointed on it too.

Mary...I am so sorry for your loss. That must have been awful to find him. I AM a dog person and have had many dogs throughout my life and not matter how you lose them, it can be devastating. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Everyone else....sorry I have been MIA all week, but I subscribe to many threads and I never noticed that that last weeks had been closed and a new one started. My bad...I guess the weeks are just dragging together this summer....hope everyone is doing well.

Soon2BFitChick 06-25-2009 11:16 AM

Good morning Bluezer Bombshells!! :coffee:

Just a quick hello. I'm POP all week and down more than any week yet! So it goes to show me that I need to stay POP, right??? :hun: Also I noticed I'm drinking more water, probably bc heat is awful now, and it's helping me bc I'm not usually that thirsty. :swim:

I'm excited bc we are going to stay home when dh takes vacation this next week and finish organizing upstairs, get my daughter's room done, and finish flooring attic so her closet can be emptied of xmas stuff and Halloween, etc. Will be soooooooooo nice to get done with it all. I cannot wait. I've waited since we moved here in 2006! LOL. Well Nov that year. But still. Same thing, a lonnnng time. We just have been so busy with work and kids and sports but I finally said it cannot wait anymore. So we are staying here to do it.

I have to go help Emily practice her name now. She is starting Pre K in Aug. Awww my baby girl is soooo big. I was on this site even before she was born. Dang, I guess I need to get it together and lose this weight already!!! LOL. But I know I should still come everyday.. but at least then I'll be on the maintainers thread. I MUST maintain!!!! :strong:

Oh here are some tips real fast that have been helping me lose:

I use my baby's silver spoon, tiny one and my favorite coffee cup if I ever eat sweets like ice cream, pie, pudding, etc. I fill it half full and that's it. I eat it slow, tiny bites, takes forever and I'm very satisfied. I love my cup my mom gave me and it helps me enjoy my food. :)

I eat only in the kitchen now. If you bring it with you to watch tv you don't even remember you ate. Then you want more. If you sit at your table and only give the food your attention, you see it, taste it, feel it go down, etc. Give it the respect it requires. It's something pretty powerful if it can attach to our bodies and make us heavy like this, make us this tired. Treat it like it's radioactive, like it should be closely supervised. LOL. Like a wild toddler. Stare at it, inspect it, don't let it out of your sight. When you are done, you had an experience of its own-eating, not one on the sidelines, along with that great show on tv. :dizzy:

More later, for any Bluezers who don't know me, I lost alot before this and know alot of things that helped me, but had a bad year losing several babies b4 our last one got to stay (and will be adopted this yr in the fall! Yay!). (We foster to adopt). And now my family is almost complete and I can worry less, and hopefully focus on me a few minutes a day! LOL. So I want to find time to share everything I have learned while losing.

Hmm, I said a quick hello. Well, you know how I 'talk'. LOL. :hyper: Ok, be good, have a great OP day and if you haven't seen the show, watch Wipeout, its on one of the regular tv channels, it's hilarious. We record them and watch them all the time. So funny!!! It's mean to laugh when they fall but I can't help it and the hosts crack me up!!! You'll see.

Hugs!! Selina

maryshady 06-25-2009 01:20 PM

Thanks everyone for the kind words and thoughts. I am hanging in there. Worked out yesterday but couldn't get myself up to day. I will workout tonite though. Eating is ok scale was back down to 176 yesterday. Still need to lose 2 more lbs to get to were I was two weeks ago. It is finally getting hot here. Well humid not really hot. It has rained almost everyday for the last month which is very unusual for around here. I am starting to think I live in Orlando or Seattle. lol!!! Hopefully the rain is gone and summer can get started.

Have a great on plan day!
