Thanks everyone - I have gone ahead and went to the May BootCamp Challenge thread. Looking forward to it.

Jillian's new book has arrived so I have started eating in earnest. I recognise I have many of the symptoms of excess insulin, probably associated with PCOS but am angry that my GP has been so unsympathetic and told me so little! I am now starting to understand why, despite all the relatively healthy eating I do and the masses of exercise, my weight is coming off so slowly and I can't seem to ever get it below 213 pounds. I am eager to read on and learn about any further changes I can make to my lifestyle to help matters. I will tell you something, reading about what is going on inside my body makes it so much easier to say NO to the chocolate and pastries!!!

Hope everyone else is having a good day!

A good/compassionate Doctor makes all the difference. I could not break 172 until after my diagnosis. Is your Dr. female? I think my PCOS would have been recognized sooner if my previous two drs hadn't been male. One just thought I needed to have kids and my system would "fix" itself. The other suggested I start training to run a marathon. "What?" How does that help my ovaries? Okay, so the running has helped with the weight loss, but still, he was strange.

Besides having site issues, I had a death in the family and had to be out of town for 3 days. Sorry I left without mentioning anything, but I couldn't log in to the thread or my mailbox. I have a PM that mentioned I messed up last weeks results, so I need to go fix that. I'm very sorry, I was really a mess last week. It was my 3rd cousin who died, she was only 29 and it was a boating accident. It completely threw me off balance and my mind (and routine) has been shot since I got the call.

I'm going to go look at the spreadsheet now. :o

I am going to go get in a BodPod this afternoon and I saw a couple of classes at the base gym that look interesting and I found they have zumba, I miss going to zumba so much, so lets hope i can get some duct tape for my bad little inner voice!!!!!

Dixied - so sorry for your loss. Thinking of you and your family. Remember to take care of yourself to get through this.

My doctor is female so I would have thought she would be more sympathetic. She has given me very little information about my condition and when I have gone to see her about some of the unpleasant symptoms like unwanted hair and acanthosis nigricans, she has dismissed these as "cosmetic issues" which are not top of the NHS priority list. I understand resources are scarce but I think these go beyond being "cosmetic issues" as they have an adverse psychological impact. I fought long and hard to be referred to a dermatologist and eventually she relented. The dermatologist then told me I could not possibly have PCOS as I had regular periods so he considered my doctor's diagnosis was wrong!!! Honestly, it's so confusing. The PCOS was diagnosed via a blood test but from researching the condition, most people seem to have it confirmed via ultrasound. I have never been given that option. I'm finding I just need to research the condition myself and find the best ways of managing it. At least I've not been told to run a marathon to fix it :) That's just bizarre!

dixied 05-04-2009 12:10 PM

Thanks!

I fixed the results for last week. :o Typo on my part. We only had 2 runners-up, because everyone else maintained. :D

I was just thinking that some of us may have a problem logging in our weight. If you have technical difficulties, you can e-mail me your weight at dee.in.the.sun @ gmail.com. (Take out the spaces) I dunno what's going on with this site lately. I was having 3FC withdrawal.

CAT- You might want to do the same thing? Oh, and I forgot to say it in my last post, but your gandbaby is adorable.

I do think we need some sort of award for those who've lasted all challenge.

willow650 05-04-2009 12:16 PM

oh, if anyone is interested, my birthday was last wednesday. For my B'day we all went to Disney. Here are some pics of our trip. I have never let pics be taken of me so this was huge for me. I actually like what I see in them.

I am so jealous! I can't find a bodpod in NWFL. I may need to drive east! You look great in your Birthday pcitures! Happy belated Birthday!

My PCOS was diagnosed by a process of looking at the symptoms, and eliminating everything else. My blood test came back mostly normal. I have had an ultrasound, but that just determined I have mulitple uterine fibroid cysts. Not necessarily a 100% PCOS confirmation, but when you take into account the excess hair, acne, ridiculously unreliable periods, etc. PCOS is the obvious diagnosis. The good news about the "cosmetic" issues are that there are solutions, and a lot of the problems go away or lessen once you manage to reign in the PCOS (somewhat) by losing some of the extra weight. At least that's been my experience since October. Have you checked out soulcycsters.com? Great resource! Your dematologist is an idiot. PCOS is a syndrome with a range of symptoms, you don't have to have all of them to have PCOS, just some to have a diagnosis. I find that most of us with PCOS are doing our own research and troubleshooting our symptoms. Even though it dates back to the 1930s (I think?) it's not anyone's top priority for research. Nothing glamorous about curing PCOS, I suppose. No race for a cure walks, no awareness campaigns. Sure, you don't die from it, it just makes your life suck. But something like 1 in 10 women have it. How many lives could be improved by correct diagnosis and treatments that worked? Most women just get sucked into the birth control will fix it myth, perpetuating the cycle further. Okay, I'll step off the soapbox now. :o

Mandy - LOOKING GOOD; I love the wind blown look when you were on the ferry. I can so relate to not wanting pictures taken of me but this trip has been different. I even let Brooke take one of me in my bathing suit and have it posted on my FB page.

Dee, do I need to run my numbers again for last week or where you just suggesting I post my email? Here is mine before I forget: CruiseCAT at verizon dot net. I am so sorry to hear about your cousin; what a tragic loss at such a young age.

I am not familiar with PCOS but I will say from experience that doctors and vets alike know little about nutrition.

Me4Life - Woods Mushrooms???? Do Tell!!!

Having great time, went to the beach yesterday. I won't bore you with a large number of pictures, just a couple. Here is just one of Noah and one of Karl and I.

Cat- What a cutie!! Your grandson's quite cute too. Just kidding!!! Truthfully, you all look nice and healthy. What a good looking family.

Dixied- Sorry about your loss. Must be devastating.

It is hard to believe that we only have one more week of this fun and excitement left. TOM should be here and gone by our last weigh-in, so I am hoping to end with a loss.

willow650 05-04-2009 07:10 PM

we still have 1 more week? I thought this was the last week

practiceliving 05-04-2009 10:57 PM

So I don't know if I mentioned, but I started Weight Watchers a few weeks ago. It's been going really well so far - I don't feel like I'm restricting myself at all, just being more mindful of my portions! I'm down 5.5lbs in 3 weeks, which is so freaking exciting for me.

Dee - I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and yours.

Willow - How was the BodPod? I've always wanted to do that, and your results seem really comprehensive. Was it expensive?

Cindy - Ohh your pictures look so great! You all look like you have a lot of fun and a lot of love. :)

Soon2BFitChick 05-05-2009 01:23 AM

Hiya everyone.

So sorry to have been gone so long this time. Been crazy and I'm back and gonna try my best to post weekly with my own weight somewhere here even tho I'm not in the challenge. Just sort of a motivator to tell someone, esp. if I am down.

How are you all doing? Hope things are going well for each of you. :D I like the title of this thread. Cute!! :cp:

Get this. My dad has health problems partly bc he is sorta heavy too. I had told him that if I was in a competition for money or something big I would win or come close to it. LOL. And that it would help me stay motivated even when I am at a plateau and it seems nothing matters anyway. He offered me incentives that sound great and I was glad for them.

He asked what my first goal and second goal are. (He is worried about my health so is excited that this is putting a fire under me.) I told him so he said he'd give me $500.00 when I hit the first one of 177, 100 lbs down and another 1000 when I get to 150. Having kids makes it to where I would really feel guilty spending that kind of money on myself even tho I would be forced to by then.

So having the chance to spend money that was just given to me for clothes is a huge motivator for me. When I hit 194 last year I actually stopped and worried about losing more and not fitting in anything at all. And you all know my issues with becoming 'thin which I equate as weak and tiny and vulnerable'. He said keeping the weight on me provides me a false sense of security. I think he's right. Any woman can get hurt no matter the size if u happen to be there when a bad guy is around. I tell myself when I'm smaller I can take kickboxing also and have the energy to fight the people off! So I'm coming to terms with that.

There is no limit on my goals. But I expect to be there around March 1 next year or before. I can't wait. I weighed 150 in middle school. Sadly enough. Uggh. Glad that's over. LOL.

So here goes... :cb: Been working out with Jillian on On Demand exercise channel. Those squats are hard after a while but I think they'll help my lower body. I want to get her book. Anyone read it?

Well, big hugssss, Selina :)

Thanks for letting me be excited with you all again. It's nice to think about something positive again for a change.

Soon2BFitChick 05-05-2009 01:39 AM

Dixie, so sorry to hear about such a sad loss. I'm praying for you and your family.

Just a question too, what do you all know about how PCOS affects weight loss???? Tell me! I was diagnosed years ago with it but never cared after I started adopting. Now we are almost ready to sign on our 8 month old sweet baby girl and then one more and we are done with all four. I don't have all those symptoms that were mentioned on some posts but some. Plus I did have multiple cysts, is that what they are called, in my uterus I believe. Never cared much once I knew that we tried Clomid and all that and never worked to get preggo. So dunno. But any info you have as to why it's so hard to lose easily with it I'd like to hear!!

In the meantime I'm having my usual 1200 or less a day, extra water, some exercise (more once I move my tmill bk to living room) and deep breaths thru out the day. Learned that from Susan Powter, yes strange lady, esp. now, but it has always helped me. I take as many as I can during the day. I need to lose 90 and don't really care how fast but just that I'm always going in the right direction. :)

Thx again, hugs, Selina

Soon2BFitChick 05-05-2009 01:56 AM

Ok, yet another question. I keep reading posts and wanting to respond to things. :)

Is there another challenge here after this one?? I need to know! I just might give everyone a run for the title. I'm in that kinda mood so let me know if we are going to be doing a new one!

Thx!! Selina

willow650 05-05-2009 07:33 AM

The BodPod was through the Wellness Center on a Navy Base so it was free. I went in, they took my blood pressure, weighed me, I got in to the pod, that didnt take very long but they did the test twice, then I got on a treadmill for 12 minutes, at 3.3mph and the girl upped the incline every 3 minutes. That was to track my heart rate. I go back on the 14th for a more detailed analysis of all the information.

MonteCristo 05-05-2009 08:35 AM

Wow, I didn't realize we have one more week. Maybe I'll make it to 12 pounds lost!

RangerChic 05-05-2009 09:15 AM

Dixied, sorry about your loss. :hugs:

I had an insane weekend since I had to work Saturday until 1pm and then rent a minivan, drive up to Asheville and then back down here to Florida on Sunday. I had some boxes to get from a friend's basement that I left when I moved back in December. Anyway, the trip up was great, back, not so much. So glad it's over. And, I'm ready for a more relaxing week!

luckycharm 05-05-2009 05:06 PM

Dixie - I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Selena - great to hear from you. That is great that your dad is helping with some motivation. I can't wait to see your pictures when you hit your first goal.

Shannon - I hope that you remember to relax a little this weekend.

Mandy - what is a bodpod?

Monte - Think positive. You will make it to 12 lbs loss.

Marianne - :bravo: on your weight watchers success. That is exciting.

Cindy - You look great... So do the boys.

Mindy - We have enough time for a few more last chance workouts. :D

Me - Good luck with your move.

MissV - Have you finished Jillian's book? Sounds like she is better than your doctor.

Hi to everyone else, I must run and grab the little guy from school.

Newshinyme 05-05-2009 06:24 PM

So we officially have an extra week to go with the show? Yay!

Dee: I am so sorry about your loss. Please don't apologize for not being 100% here.

Marianne: You have done so great so far and now with WW you'll do even better it seems.

Selina: Glad to see you back and with a fire under your butt too :carrot:. Reading your post reminded me of a thought that came through my head earlier today when I was working out: I realized that now that my gut is smaller it doesn't get in the way so much and I can actually move better. So to go against your thin is fragile fear, the smaller you are, the more agile you'll be and the faster you can run!

Mandy: I am wondering what a BodPod is too.

Monte: I am with you on the 12 lbs :D

Shannon: Glad you made it back alright! Maybe you'll rest during the week LOL

Talk to you all soon chickies!

MissVitality 05-05-2009 06:36 PM

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well.

Dixied - thanks for the support on the PCOS issue - much appreciated. The dermatologist was a jerk and had no right questioning the diagnosis when its not his area of specialism. You've given me some hope that I can shift the pounds in spite of the condition - thank you.

Luckycharm - Hope all is well with you? I love the pic in your avatar - too cute! I'm ploughing my way through Jillian's book and actually feeling quite excited - at least now I have a better understanding of what's going on with my hormones and how it is affecting my weight loss attempts. It has also prompted me to look at The Insulin Resistance Diet - haven't ordered the book as yet (want to finish Jillian's first) but been on their website. Went grocery shopping last night and rather than just concentrating on the calories, fat and sugar when checking labels, I was busy checking out the protein:carb ratio! I also invested in some superfoods - turkey, salmon, raspberries, oranges etc. I had a craving today for chocolate before a long journey but chose a banana instead - was quite pleased with myself.

Selina - what a great incentive from your dad! My understanding is that PCOS can make it harder to lose weight because of insulin resistance. Your hormones are out of whack so aren't functioning together as they should thereby affecting your metabolism. So according to Jillian's book, achieving hormonal harmony is the key to weight loss. I've still to get to her plan of action but can tell you more when you get there.

Cindy - is that your son in the picture with you? Very handsome - pity he is taken ;) How is wee Noah?

The latest season of the Biggest Loser UK started last week - I am hooked!!! Been in tears so many times though - reminds me where I've been, how far I've come and how far I've still to go.

Everyone else - be good! :)

mtiger 05-05-2009 07:44 PM

I am feeling a bit depressed today because of my super slow weight loss. I only lost 2 pounds last month. 2 pounds. Some people lose that in a week. I hate being pre-menopausal. It is making things really tough. I try to keep my eye on the big picture, but it's hard. I work so hard, to make such small progress. I know I'll get there someday, but sooner would be better than later.

I am seriously considering Jillian's book. I know my hormones are whacked. Maybe she could help.

MonteCristo 05-06-2009 09:17 AM

I have been weighing every day for the past 2 months to sort of get a handle on my weight swings throughout the month. However, it had the nasty side affect of making me work at merely one day at a time, which didn't really work for me. It was so easy for me to cheat because, because I'll just behave tomorrow (yeah right!) So I switched back to a weekly weigh-in, to shift my focus back to being OP a week at a time. The only problem is I really want to jump on the scale! It is almost driving me crazy to wait the whole week!! I hope I'm not disappointed......

Mindy - Don't get discouraged! It happens to all of us. I only lost 1.2lbs in April, and didn't lose anything in March, and I'm certainly not menopausal (only 23).

Shannon - Isn't it crazy how the weekend so often turns out busier than the rest of the week combined? Sometimes I'm relieved to settle back into work on Monday! ;)

Shy Moment 05-06-2009 11:55 AM

Dixie
Will keep you in my prayers.

mtiger
Pre menopause is a pain in many ways. You just stick with it. The condition won't keep you from losing the weight sooner or later.

Monte
Oh I do understand about the scale lol. I don't even keep one in the house again. I go to the doc to do a weigh in. The scale in the house just drove me crazy.

Things pretty much the same same around here. Our little rescue dog Cookie is doing better everyday and has even put a pound on over the week we have had her. What a difference a week and a few days has made for this little sweet thing.

mtiger 05-06-2009 07:21 PM

TOM said HELLO today, with a vengence. I think they are getting further apart and certainly stronger when they get here. I was down a little from yesterday, 191.6. I want to get solidly in the 180's, Not just 189.6 like last month. If I could just keep from going up and down, I would be great.

Monte and Shy- Thanks for your votes of confidence. I really need them and appreciate them. I have to keep my eye on the forest, but this big A** tree keeps getting in my way. :smug:

Lisa - Yes, that is my son Karl. You are so sweet, I'll be sure to let him know what you said; coming from mom he just never believes me.

MC - I can really relate to your struggles with the scales. I tried to only weigh once a week but just couldn't do it.

mtiger -Hang in there, we are in this for the life. The weight WILL come off. TOM is on the way here so the scales are all of the place for me too. I don't think the humidity here is helping either; my hands and feet are SOOO swollen.

Shy - I glad that Cooking is doing better.

Mandi - The BodyPod sounds cool, would love to get my numbers.

Brooke, Noah, and I will be headed to Williamsburg and I have to admit I'm not looking forward to the six hour drive. Noah really doesn't like to ride and it looks like we will have some weather all the way up I95. I am looking forward to getting there and seeing some old friends and my two sisters who are also coming to town. It will be an interesting trip, it's the first time all three of us have been together in over 10 years.

Well I guess I better get in the shower and start packing up the car.

GREAT.... I just heard thunder.... as I always say.... careful what you wish for. I wanted thunderstorms and it looks like we are going to have a few today.

Not sure I am taking my computer if not I'll be back Monday.

Have a great weekend everyone.

willow650 05-07-2009 08:44 AM

I posted an ad on craigslist a while back for a walking partner and someone finally contacted me. I am going to meet her at 9:30 and I am SO excited. So this makes at least 2 times this week at least I will have exercised. WOOHOO.

Shy Moment 05-07-2009 01:48 PM

Willow
You be careful and have a great time with your new walking buddy

Mtiger
I haven't found so much that the darn big tree gets in my way BUT I do find that those darn branches just beat the heck out of me from time to time. :)

Soon2BFitChick 05-07-2009 08:33 PM

NO! The Craigslist Killer went to meet someone and killed them and I think others. Take someone with you the first time!

Thanks to you all who gave me kind words of support! I need them!

You all are doing fantastic. I hope to do well this year again too.

:cheer2:

Soon2BFitChick 05-07-2009 08:37 PM

Oh yeah, I lost 3 lbs. :cb:

Will change my thingy when I lose some more.

mtiger 05-07-2009 09:17 PM

Did 3 miles with my friend. She is getting better at running, which in turn is better for me too. We go further, and run longer. YAY!!! SInce TOM has arrived the scales are starting to move some. 191 today. I really need to get into the 180's solidly. PLEASE!!!!!

Cat- Have fun. And you can keep the thunderstorms in your area. We need no more rain here.

Shy- Something seems to be getting in the way. Gotta push it right out of the way.

Soon2b- Great job on the loss.

the craigslist killer were meeting women who posted in the erotic section of craigslist. I met my walking partner today and we had a great time, walked 4 1/2 miles

MonteCristo 05-08-2009 09:10 AM

Mandy - I'm glad your walking partner worked out. I wouldn't trade away 3FC, but sometimes you need somebody "there".

Soon2B - Congrats on the loss! I hope I can pull off the same this week. ;)

Mindy - That is awesome with the running! Just keep it up and soon you'll be sprinting through the 180s! :D

No exercise yesterday, but I did get to see the new Star Trek (was totally awesome!!). I think it was worth it. ;)

dixied 05-08-2009 11:38 AM

Hey Purple team! I'm still around, but the site is still acting up on me.

Has anyone heard when the next season of BL will start? I really hate to go all summer without a challenge, that leads to me falling off the wagon, usually.

Eating hasn't been 100%, but I've ramped up my running for the next couple of weeks, trying to get used to running outside in the FL heat. Even at 5:30 am it's hot and humid already. There's a race on July 4th that's going to be miserable. It was the first 5K I ever attempted, and even though I walked it, it was almost too much. Note to anyone thinking of doing a 5K: Don't attempt your first one at the height of summer, wait til it cools off. ;)

Shy Moment 05-08-2009 07:54 PM

Soon2b
Congrats. You dance it is lol it is great exercise.

mtiger
Carry shears at all time lol.

mtiger 05-08-2009 10:30 PM

Weight has not changed, like at all. I have been walk/jogging everyday this week. Maybe that's why. I did Jillian's Cardio DVD tonight. I am soaked. Let's see if that does any good.
