I'm getting REALLY frustrated with the scales. I have been in the 150's since March 3rd and in the last two weeks the scales have been teasing me with being in the 140's. I've hit 150.2 twice but then the scales go up the next day. I didn't even get my whoosh with TOM.

I don't consider this a plateau but here is a new QOTD. What do you consider a plateau and how do you deal with it?

For me a plateau is losing the same 2-3 lbs. for at least four weeks. In the past when I have hit what I consider a plateau I would eat less and that never worked and then when I started eating right again I gained and then I would be back to my old bad habits in a matter of days. This time because I have made a life style change I am going to just keep doing what I have been doing; eat less (I'm still eating about 1400-1500 calories) and move more.

Hmmm... might I recommend checking out Jillian Michaels' new book? It's all about how hormones play a critical part of our weight loss. Also, are you eating a lot of artificial foods or foods with artificial sweetners in them?

I'm having a more difficult time myself, but I'm still keeping my calories between 1200 to 1300 calories and 1400 to 1500 calories on my high cal days. I'm dealing with more of a hungry all the time thing which sucks. But, I'm trying to incorporate Jillian's suggestions from her new book into my lifestyle, so we'll see how that goes.

dixied 04-16-2009 10:03 AM

Quickie post - I'm still hanging in here, but I'm covering for a co-worker who is off the next 2 weeks, so I 'm busy.

Easter binge made my weight go waaay up, so I'm working on returning to my previous weight.

luckycharm 04-16-2009 10:47 AM

Good Morning Everyone.

Dixie  Now that Easter is over, we can get back to your little black dress challenge.

Shannon is her book worth getting?

Me - I don't think you have 2 grandkids.

Mary and Cindy - I didn't have to look for a snake. The boys did actually clean, but only because I was sick and DS wanted his girlfriend to come over.

Cindy I have been thinking about your question. I haven't hit a plateau yet, but what will I have to do when I hit one. On my treadmill, you put in your weight and it shows you how many calories you burn. One day I was working out on my daughters weight, and I was amazed at how few calories it burned so I have been thinking that I am going to have to get some ankle and wrist weights and work out with them on.

Ok hope that you all have a great day. I am off to the treadmill. Gotta go and try and catch Dixie's time.

Thankyou all for your positive attitudes. It seems to have given me back my motivation. :)

Are you walking or running? I would increase my speed before I strapped on the weights, if you're walking. Or you could do intervals, the studies show that intervals burn more calories, but your treadmill wouldn't show that.

luckycharm 04-16-2009 12:39 PM

Dixie I am stuck on week 3 of c25k. I do the walking at 4 mph and jogging at 5 mph. What was I thinking when I thought that it would actually get easier? I will actually sometime complete it though.

After I finished C25K I was running on M-W-F and then doing interval sprints or incline walks three days a week. But when Hogan ate my power cord and I didn't use the treadmill for a couple weeks I lost much of my stamina and currently I am building that back.

I know the scales are not moving because I have not been exercising and I have been eating the same 1400-1500 since day one, when I was 186. I really do not want to lower my calories at this point and will just be patient while I get back into a routine.

Kathy you are doing GREAT!!! It WILL get easier.

MonteCristo 04-16-2009 01:35 PM

I finally back down after my Easter weekend fiasco. I would really like to drop another pound by Monday, and I think I can do it. I've only been calorie cycling for 3 1/2 days, but it really seems to be working well for me. :D

me4life 04-16-2009 01:42 PM

i'm so excited today i am going to see about a sewing job tommorrow and i have a real chance of working again. i have been off for a year and this place pays better than i got after 10 years of sewing at my last job.

MissVitality 04-16-2009 05:30 PM

Here's my 3:

1) I am going to meet Her Majesty the Queen this year

2) My good friend plays for a well known Scottish football team

3) I have had dinner with a famous pop group

I started the C25K twice before I saw it all the way thru. No, actually, I didn't complete it. After 4 weeks of that techno musak, I ditched it and just ran. It really does get easier after week 4.

I'm still working off the Chocolate Eggs. Doesn't help that TOM is due too.

I need to rebuild my running too. It's 5K season here and my time isn't improving much.

One Fluffy Chick 04-17-2009 04:02 AM

Hi all . . .
Hope everyone has had a great week, and has plans for a wonderful weekend.

Truths and Lie:
1. My mother is one of 10 children, and my father was one of 24 children, but my parents only had 2 children.

2. I worked for the Fish and Wildlife Service as a wildlife biologist studying the behavior of grizzly bears.

3. I've been pecked by a bird, kicked by a horse and bitten by a rat, a hamster, 2 cats and 3 dogs. None of them were my pets.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Miss V:
I don't think you're meeting the Queen.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
CruiseCAT's QOTD:
What do you consider a plateau and how do you deal with it?
I consider not losing weight at all for more than a week or losing and gaining the same pound or two several times over 2 to 3 weeks. I usually get frustrated and have a day or two of eating off plan which seems to kickstart my metabolism into gear. Exercising more and eating less has never worked for me.

CruiseCAT 04-17-2009 09:26 AM

Lisa - I too will have to go with meeting the Queen.

OFC - I think 24 kids is a stretch OK... I actually think that would be CRAZY.

Dee - I have come to realization that I will never be a street runner therefore the chance of participating in a real 5K is unlikely. I enjoy the treadmill but running on the street was not fun. For me to stick with any exercise it has to be fun or at least tolerable.

I have good news..... I hit 149.6 this morning. I usually only update my ticker on Monday but had to share my excitement with EVERYONE.

Mack is home until Tuesday so I won't be around much. Hope you all have a GREAT weekend.

Good Luck... can't wait to hear how it went.

CruiseCAT 04-17-2009 09:38 AM

I think a couple people might have misunderstood me; eating less and moving more is my life style change not my way of dealing with a plateau.

mtiger 04-17-2009 09:59 AM

I have been really scarce since my computer at home is messed up. I am posting from work with a room full of children. That doesn't work so well at times. Anyhow, I'll be quick.

Wish I could play the game but I can't keep up right now.
My weight went up to 192 today. YUCK!!!
I plan so some good workouts for the weekend so I hope it goes back down by Monday.

Gotta run.

Cool, everyone is different and what works for one person may not the next. :)

RangerChic 04-17-2009 10:30 AM

I've got a comic book convention this weekend where I get to sit behind a table and talk up my books. So, I will be scarce. Have a great weekend all!

MissVitality 04-17-2009 10:50 AM

Well ladies,

The Queen is coming to my work in July to celebrate 10 years of devolution in Scotland and I once had a meal in a restaurant and the boy band Westlife (are they known in America? MASSIVE over here) were at the next table! One of the friends I was dining with almost peed her pants in excitement. We were off to see them in concert that night so it was very strange seeing them on stage later on after sitting eating next to them!

Although I used to work at a well known Scottish football club, can't count any of the players as a good friend!

Lisa

me4life 04-17-2009 11:25 AM

went good there doing a background check and i call back monday to find out when to do the drug test and other stuff. if all works out i'll start on the 27th.

One Fluffy Chick 04-17-2009 12:09 PM

Cindy: My lifestyle change is the same as yours, eat less and move more. My answer to the QOTD was that I found that eating even less than that, and doing extra workouts wasn't helping me get through my plateau. Sorry if I was unclear. :halffull:
and
Congratulations on the 149.6! Great job!!

MissV: Never heard of Westlife, but that's a cool story. Did you buy them drinks, and ask to be their backstage groupies? Wow! You're going to meet the Queen. Do you have to do anything special for her visit?

dixied: Are you the same Dix that I said looked like Reba? :chin: You look mahvahlous, darling! Last we chatted, you were fighting a plateau that kept you around 172lbs. Way to push through it and show it who's boss.

Gotta run and get ready for work. Ta for now.

Haney98 04-17-2009 01:46 PM

I would love to join....

:carrot::carrot::carrot:Can I join!!!!PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!:carrot::carrot::carrot:

Just let me know how to report the weekly weight loss, and what day, and I am there! This would be so great for me! I am a competitive person trying to win my personal war with FAT!!!!

Are you all still doing the Biggest Loser Chalenge?

CruiseCAT 04-18-2009 08:44 AM

Hi Haney - Welcome to 3FC. We are currently at the end of this BLC; we started when the show began in January. Sign-ups for this challenge were in December. I've seen some other BL challenges on some of the other threads you may want to check out.

I'm sure you will find the ladies here on 3FC very supportive . Look around and jump right in on several of the threads.

Edited to add... Congratulations on the 20 lb. loss, you are doing GREAT.

mtiger 04-18-2009 07:38 PM

I fixed my computer today by doing a restore. I am so happy about that. However, the scale is being unkind and reminding me that this is mid-cycle gain time. Up 3 pounds in 3 days. YUCK!!! Wish I could find some way to avoid this crap.

Stay on plan this weekend girls. It is about time for me to get to my workout. Did a 3 mile walk/jog yesterday. Tonight I think I need some butt kicking.

Yep, that's me. I'm stuck again at 152-153, but at least the last plateau showed me that patience pays off.

We'll have signups again before the next BL season begins, usually in May. In the meantime you can hang out and chat with us, or there is a challenge forum to check out.

My cycle is being mean too.

Along with PMS, I've got a horrible sore throat/cough. I think it's allergies from mowing the yard and running outside. I'm downing sugarfree popsicles like they're going to stop making them. It the only thing that makes my throat feel better. Drinking water even hurts, how's THAT possible? I won't be posting a gain this week, which is a relief after the easter candy binge.

I've got 12 weeks until the reunions, I'm thinking about upping my workouts to twice a day. Weights in the mornings, cardio (alternating HITT with steady state longer runs) in the evening. Any thoughts? I'd be taking 1 day off a week from the hard training, but I'd probably do at least a walk on that day, just for the sake of being outside.

willow650 04-19-2009 09:17 PM

I am SO not looking forward to tomorrows weigh in. I am afraid I may be posting my first gain. I just can't seem to get back on the wagon I fell off of. I really think its because too many people are telling me how I good look. Is that weird? I still have 15to 20 lbs to go, lost almost 30lbs, why wont I just finish what I started?

It isn't weird at all. I've been stuck around 155 about a month now, and I think a lot of my lack of motivation is due to people constantly telling me how amazing I look, that I'm "skinny" (HA!), don't need to lose more, etc. I'm glad that they think I look good, but I am satisfied yet. I may "only" have 18 pounds left to go, but it is going to take just as much effort and determination as the first 66, and maybe more.

CruiseCAT 04-20-2009 10:17 AM

I agree, not weird at all Mandy. I know I have been there before with the compliments. Yes, the question is why don't you finish what you started? You know you can do this, you've already dropped 30 lbs. You deserve to be healthy, now get out there and DO IT!!!

Dee - What reunions??? I sure hope you feel better today. I see no problem with working out twice a day as long as you are working different muscle groups on the weight training. I've started doing BowFlex every day now to prepare me for when I am in Myrtle Beach and will visit the gym six days a week.

I had a great weekend and got some good workouts in. Yesterday I hung out by the pool and read all day while Mack was diving. I so wish we were still in lobster season; they were all over the place.

RangerChic 04-20-2009 11:27 AM

I totally understand those last pounds and the compliments. I have been getting tons of compliments and now is when its getting harder with the hunger. Just gotta keep going! :)

CruiseCAT 04-20-2009 11:41 AM

Shannon - Another 3 lbs. this week.... you're killing me. I don't think I'll be able to catch you now. I had my chance; I got lax with the exercise and you blew by me.

You are an inspiration!!!

inklestinkle 04-20-2009 12:31 PM

The bridal shower that has consumed my life for the past month and a half is over. Thank goodness! Now I can back to focusing on me! ;)

I lost 1.5lbs between last night and now, but I already entered my "no loss" for this weigh in and I don't think we can change it, right? Darn it. ;)

I'm another who can relate to feeling accomplished and being content therefore being stuck. Today was the first loss is what seems like forever. I still have a ways to go, even if I don't make my deadline. But I just have to remind and motivate myself to stick with it.

dixied 04-20-2009 01:37 PM

Cat - July 18th is my family reunion with family I haven't seen since I was at my almost highest weight (3 years), and then on July 24-25th is my 20th High School reunion. I'm in denial on that one, I really don't feel that old.

Inkle - I haven't started the spreadsheet for the week, so as long as it's edited by 10pm, I won't know the difference. :D I think that was Chellez rule becuase she started the tally while she was at work on Mondays. My Mondays at work are crazy enough without that.

Aw, thanks. :)

It's been tougher though, sometimes all I can think about is food! Ha. Well, I did eat more this past weekend than normal (Chipotle twice, love it waaayyy too much), so hopefully it didn't screw me up too much for losing this week as my weigh ins are Saturday AM.

mtiger 04-20-2009 06:06 PM

Well this really sucks. I have to post a gain since I have gained my 3 pound mid-cycle poundage. What gives? I cannot stand this up, down crap. It gets so annoying.

Well I am gald to hear the rest of you doing so well. So many of you close to your goals. I know I will get there eventually, I just need to stick with it.

Shy Moment 04-20-2009 07:52 PM

Just a quick stop by. I finally got into the site to chat :). Doing pretty well on the weight loss. It is slow but it is steady :) Hope everyone is doing well.

Mandy:
When I fall off of the wagon, I've found that it helps to not make a big deal of falling off of it in the first place. I just tell myself that if I can get through one day "on plan", then I probably just stepped off of the wagon for a pee break, and it pulled off without me. :lol3: One successful day often leads to 2 successful days, and so on, and so on, and so on. You can do this!!

One Fluffy Chick 04-21-2009 01:38 AM

By the by, from my truths and lie, only one person guessed, so I was waiting to see if anyone else would have a crack it.

2 is false. Although I would love to work with grizzlies, my mother has expressly forbidden me working with mountain lions, grizzlies, or any other carnivores that can eat me.

My Grandpa did have 24 kids - 15 with one wife and 9 with another. Although my parents came from huge families, it's only my brother and me.

And yes, I've been bitten by all of those animals. Apparently, I'm pretty tasty. Hence, my mother not wanting me to work with big carnivores.

luckycharm 04-21-2009 10:21 AM

 Thankyou so much for this. It made my day. Sometimes all its takes is a new perspective. :D

CruiseCAT 04-21-2009 10:53 AM

Dee - I can relate to not feeling that old. I had my 25th back in November 2007; it was so much fun and although I was heavy I didn't feel like the outcast I was in HS.

Mindy - That's right stick with it... YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Shannon - I have never eaten at Chipotle, what do you get. I will be going out of town next week and will be eating on the road a couple times. What would you suggest?

Well I'm off to get my workout in, try some clothes on for my trip next week, do some laundry, and continue to read Twilight. My DIL is obsessed so I decided it would give us something else to talk about and have found that I am actually enjoying it.

Have a good day everyone.
