Fresh cherries on sale at the grocery store -- SO delicious! It's been a while since I had cherries, I've forgotten how good they are.

Just because you have asked so nicely I have changed my weigh in day this challenge from Monday's to Saturday's.

Your little guys walking are making me feel bad. I started out with that one a day goal. It's sorta fallen by the wayside. You are doing a GREAT job though.

It's cowboy week on my beach, so if that does it for ya, you can borrow mine. I'm going with themed weeks. Week 1 was Military (the character Bruno Dylan plays was a Army Ranger), Week 2 was Sci-Fi (Torchwood character), and this week's choice is Eric Close (playing Vin Tanner on The Magnificent Seven).

I sure wish I had more than 4 channels so I would know who some of those men are.

Do you feel like you "let your appearance go" when you gained weight?

I've never been thin so that part doesn't really apply. The last time I remember CARING about my appearance was probably 9th grade. I couldn't leave the house unless I had helmet head from the hairspray. My entire collection of product right now consists of a 4 year old can of hairspray and some eyeliner from my wedding. I do have some nail polish but I haven't worn much of that in the past 5 years either. I'm a wash and wear kinda girl. Thinking back over the last two years I don't think anything other than water and some SPF15 moisturizer has touched my face.

I do plan on going for a full mani and pedi sometime soon. Maybe my 225lb reward?

Depending on where we might be living at the time I could be in on a few days of that.

lucky you!

cherries are rarely on sale here! Lucky you!

don't think I have let go of appearance but I am not really dress up all that much - being short and having to hem things is not my favorite thing to do

OK, since no one has put up a question of the day (QOTD), I will:

QOTD: When you reach your goal, what do you want to do to celebrate?

Visit my family and act all nonchalant about it. I come from a line of tall, very slender people who are highly prejudiced against the overweight, and the way they've always talked about me you'd think I was MUCH heavier than I am and the shortest person on earth. When I was 14 recovering from an ED, my family started calling me fat when I reached 112 lbs. Frequently they were like "STOP! you have gained MORE than enough weight!" When I was in the 140s my grandma would point out morbidy obese women and be all "watch out I can see this happening to you!"

So yeah, I want them to see me being healthy and making good choices and not going to either extreme, but I am also a little (lot) resentful of their prejudices. I hope that once/if they don't see me as "the other" they'll actually listen to me when I say that they need to respect others. Hopefully my tirades against their prejudices will seem reasonable, rather than defensive, if my weight is more acceptable to them. Whew that was a mouthful! congrats if you actually read through it!

I have a person question in addition to the QOTD: Does anyone else out there have a DH (significant other) that is totally oblivious to your weight loss.

Maybe he feels like it is a taboo topic. My DF is definitely scared to talk about weight unless I bring it up. He's just learned from sitcoms and movies that you don't touch the topic of weight with a ten foot pole. Maybe yours feels the same?

haha moving across town (just DF and I... no one could help!) in my little Yaris definitely helped. I was carrying and rearranging boxes for HOURS.

Discuss. ;)

Definitely. Sorry to harp on my family tonight-- they do have good qualities! But my male family members used to (probably still do when I'm not around, but I've flipped out about this a few too many times for their comfort) make fun of heavier women who dressed nicely or wore heels or made an effort with their appearance, andI guess I kinda internalized this. Whenever I want to wear more makeup or certain styles of clothes I remember some of their favorite catchphrases and it just sort of... turns me off dressing up.

trailgroomer 05-19-2008 09:08 PM

how I will celebrate

well - I don't know for sure! how odd is that?

things I do to celebrate

go to the beach

love to eat shrimp, scallops and lobster

Do you feel like you "let your appearance go" when you gained weight?

I've been overweight my entire life. Smaller than I am now at various points throughout my life but never normal weight. The answer is still a resounding YES! What's interesting is I always get a mani/pedi/wax every 2weeks. I am also an accessory queen. My clothes and hair are another story. Comfort is my goal now when it comes to clothing. People are always shocked when I dress up because I clean up well. Lets not even get started on my hair...

Maria--! Whew I don't even know what to say...

You are welcome! I left them for all 3 teams last time and am doing the same again. I am not posting much at all this time though. I don't seem to have comments or responses to my posts in my team thread, so, I'll just check in with everyone in all 3 team chats from time to time.

Maria - oh my. I guess you are proof that people can rise above the predjudices of their families. I'm so sorry that you had to be exposed to their intolerant awefulness. Its taken me lots of therapy to overcome my own family's pathologies - I hope that you have been able to overcome any damage that your fam may have done when you were growing up.

Well team - I got my radishes, romaine, and spinach in - but still need to do my other lettuces, carrots, and pumpkins. I think I may buy pumpkin starts instead of doing seed - haven't decided yet.

I'm a bit tired, so its off to bed. 'Night!

Lovely 05-20-2008 07:24 AM

Maria - Just goes to show we can't choose family can we? I'm sorry you've had to experience the brunt of their prejudices.

Hey SoulBliss - I was continuing to think about your "listening" post. How do you think things like Forums and Chat rooms change the way we "listen"?

---

Today is a "business casual" day at work. Basically, some head honcho person is arriving, we all have to wear our Sunday best! ;) I went to get dressed in my usual business casual outfit... and it's falling off of me. I'm both excited at this, and uncomfortable, because I look frumpy!

Maybe all you married people can help me with something I'm a little confused about. How does one go about picking a Justice to get married? I mean, I know where to find a list, but do I ask certain questions or like... meet them for coffee... or ... I have no clue!

Much work to do today. Have a great day everyone!

GirlyGirlSebas 05-20-2008 07:43 AM

Good morning, Bluesers.

Faerie - Congrats on the frumpy clothes!

My morning date with the scales was horrible today! I'm really hoping that a lot of my gain is water because I'm seeing a number that I never thought I'd see again. Yesterday, I wasn't 100% committed to staying on-plan. I didn't exercise and there was just too much of the junk food still in the house. Last night, I setup the crockpot and my steelcut oats are ready for me. As soon as I finish posting here, I'll open a spreadsheet and track my calories for the day. Also, I will setup the crockpot with something for dinner tonight. Cooking and the cleanup will be super easy and Hubby and I should have no valid reason to skip our walk.

This weight gain has scared me and I now know that I can't play around anymore. I have to get serious about staying on-plan and improving my health.

:cheer3::cheer3::cheer3: GO BLUE! :cheer3::cheer3::cheer3:

mumtoliam 05-20-2008 07:50 AM

Just got caught up on the thread...
I have 2 QOTD to catch up on

What I will do when I reach goal:

Be thankful for all the people who have helped me stay focused whilst trying to reach my goal.

I would love to say I am going to do something exotic but realistically that would only happen if I won the lottery!! :hehe

Do you think you have let your appearance go when you have gained weight?

No - I always upkeep my appearance - my mother has made that remark to me before - I havent let my appearance go. It irks me - if you cant say something nice - dont say it!

Lovely 05-20-2008 07:55 AM

Rhonda - I'm thinking it was the junk food and lack of exercise from yesterday causing a water weight gain. Not a "real" gain! You can stay on plan today! :cheer3:

momof4girls 05-20-2008 08:03 AM

I totally have a craving for fresh cherries now! I Love those things.

THis week I AM going to make the exercise challenge, I am DETERMINED!!!

It is such a nice day today I think I am going to go to the Y as normal and when we come home go for a walk with the twins.

How was everyone's weekend? Mine was nice...but it went too fast, as they usually do.

As you lose weight and you drop sizes...when you look in the mirror do you see someone smaller or do you still see yourself the way you were when started?

I think I'm unusual on this. I've never "seen" myself as a really big gal. When I look in the mirror, I still see the slimmer me. Seeing myself in photographs, getting on the scales and taking my measurements are my reality checks.
