I think part of the reason the calories burned looks so high is that it doesn't take into account the amount of effort you are putting into the exercise.

Take for instance it says that I'd burn 599 calories in an hour at my weight doing aerobics. But if I wasn't giving it a vigorous effort, or even a mediocre one, there's no way I'd burn that much. That's one thing I miss about the WW trackers is that it took those things into account.

I think in truth, you can never really trust an online database to tell you how many calories you are burning to the T, but it gives you a general idea of what the potential is if you can workout very vigorously. I'm not so much going to use the exercise function on TDP for calories burned, it'll be more for tracking that I'm getting exercise done in general.

I generally don't eat extra because TDP says I can. I set myself to sedentary lifestyle as well. I try to stick to the daily calorie amount given to me. Right now it's like 1380 or something like that. I try and stay below 1600, because some day's I am just hungrier than 1380, lol! I am working out 5 to 6 day's a week and I have found that as long as I workout I can usually lose 1 to 2 lbs a week, and that's cool. I want to train as if I am an athlete. :) I even had the REAL age test tell me I was training like an athlete and that I needed to slow down. NOW THAT'S A FIRST! ;) I don't like to feel hungry ever, so I try and eat high fiber and protein a lot too. I rarely use fitday anymore, but according to them, I can lose 2 lbs a week and be 125 by New years, so that's cool. :)

Got to watch TBL last nite late, it was GREAT!! I couldn't help but exercise during it! :strong: Was so glad Ali (sp?) won! First woman, yay!!! :belly: I would love to have her determination, maybe I can find mine again. I want to. I really do. I just keep letting other things steal my focus. I have to find a way. :dunno:

Happy Birthday, late, Roni!!! :bday2:

Hugs to each of you, hope to get back on here later, Selina

Utahgirl--If you both have a camera (or can borrorw) that uses the same sort of tape, one could record something then mail to the other to add onto it. There wouldn't be any sections of you two together, but if you both talked about knowing each other from here and your relationship here, then that would explain it...and maybe even give you a unique advantage because you are familiar with one another yet not family members or hubby/wife, etc. so it would be a unique couple to include. I say go for it! But plan out what you each will say and do though, so you kind of feed off one another even without being together literally at the same time. First person recording could say something to the effect of how far the tape will be travelling (50 miles, etc) before they see the next person, just some cute way to pull it together. and when they show clips on the show of what I think is their audition tapes, they are always like in a bikini or doing something brave like that, so think entertarining and go out of your comfort zone to get attention, I'm sure they get thousands of tapes.

Afternoon Everyone....

It's a pretty quiet day around here....it's annual review time <no comment>...I had mine this morning and it actually went better than I thought it would. It's kind of funny, according to mgmt, this is not tied to any salary increase that I may receive....but they have to have them all done by the next time we all get paid, which will be Saturday.

Enough about that....anyone belong to 24 Hour Fitness? Just wondering if you do what we are doing....going to all of the ones in the area to find out which ones are best for what days of the week, which one is best for on the way home from work, etc. Our "home" facility (I used to go to the one in my building, but I'm not much of a poser and didn't really like it) is actually "under construction", which means we have access to the "old place" and come June or so we will have a brand new gym with a pool and everything....I can't wait. Anyway, so we are doing out little tour and it's kind of weird that you can just go into any of them, no questions asked....I still like our "home/old facility", but it's good to know you have options.

Yeah, ok I'm babbling again...guess it's time to get back to work.

PS, today I am wearing PINK in honor of Ali's win last evening....:bravo::cheer2::cheer:

Hiya, Big Losers!

I've been lurking today. Can I just say......I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT CHALLENGE TO BEGIN!!!! I'm just pretending to do this diet thing right now. I wish I could go away to the "ranch" for a few months and just concentrate on me and my weight loss.

Sorry for whining. I just have the blahs.

Hope everyone else is having a great on-plan day.

bethbeth 04-16-2008 04:54 PM

I also CAN'T WAIT for the challenge to begin. Let's start already! I'm pumped. I'm ready. I'm going to lose.

Beth

Sorry I have not been attentive; I have been in and out. Ran three today. Felt good.

off to throw a 'za in the oven!

So, Vanetta - which one do you work out at? Maybe we've even seen each other before depending on the time you go, because what you're describing sounds alot like my "home" 24HR gym on Kent-Kangley - I live in Covington. I work out there Monday evenings, usually T-W-Th mornings and on either Sa or Su at various times. Actually I'm heading there at 4:15 when the child care room opens for the evening since I didn't make it this AM. When I go at 4:15 I do a warm-up, some weights and core and then claim a machine by 5:15. It typically starts to get pretty full by 6 when I'm leaving.

A girl in my daughter's gymnastics class had on a pair of cheer shorts that said "Totally Pink" across the butt in bright pink and I thought of Ali :) they would be perfect for her to wear in the BL gym.

Hi everyone,
A lot of pages to read. I do love to do it when I have time. It is always relaxing and entertaining!

Okay, so now I want a HRM too. Once I make it to 30 days binge free which will be a week from today I will get one. I will take a look at Polar. With that being said I am motivated to get back to exercising. I naturally have 3 days of exercise built in. I teach a 50 minute water exercise class to individuals with ms and other physical disabilities 2x/wk. Love it. We use noodles, weights, and resistance bands. Resistance in the water is no joke. One day a week I do a seated routine with individuals with TBI. We made our own weights out of water bottles and added water to them and superglued the tops. Sand is an option too but we did water. So I want to add two more days of exercise which need to be cardio. I will start tomorrow morning. Not sure what to do because I have so many options. After May 14 water exercise ends so I will have to regroup.

Ali and Kelly were so inspiring. I need to build on that.

CountingDown 04-16-2008 08:40 PM

Hi all! Exciting day for me - BMI is "normal" - hey - that means that I am normal at "something". I'm not very normal in any other way

Like many of you, I am excited about the challenge starting again. I'm marking off the days on my calendar :D

Hope you are having a POP day. Let's stay on track until week one! WE CAN DO IT!

Lovely 04-16-2008 09:42 PM

Counting - YAY! Congrats on being "normal" :cheer2:

Yeah. I'm psyched, too! I think there's something about being part of a team while doing this... But woe unto them! I'm Chatty McChatsalot when I find a group of people I know ;)

“There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.” --Kenneth Blanchard

I see some of my problem now. I've been interested in losing weight but not committed to it. I also had an aha moment while watching TBL last night. Ali commented on the fact that she was slowly killing herself with her weight and that needed to change because she didn't want to commit suicide. Hearing her say that really made me think. I would never kill myself but it is EXACTLY what I am doing. Could this be my breakthrough moment perhaps?
