OHHHHH, Can I join too!!
I am always looking for a challenge! Where do I join??? When does it start and who do I report to?? And the rules??

I am also looking for some exercise ideas or things to do at home when I can't get to the gym. At the gym I do 4 miles @3.5-3.7 on treadmill and alternating days of upper and lower body weights. I feel that I need to do some more though. There are girls(skinny!) that do alot of extra weights and stuff. I haven't even been to that end of the gym(it is scarey!) Alot of people have been talking about Turbo jam and Slim in 6. I thought I would give something a try. i will welcome any suggestions!
And please, someone give me the details of the challenge,
Lisa

Lottalisa, you and I do the exact same workout!! I do threadmill incline cardio walking at about 3.8, 6x/wk. Then I do ubwo & lbwo splits 3x/week. I had started doing some full-body workout 2x/week as well which seemed harder - you might want to try it. Do it every 3rd day or more.

What end of the gym is scary? The free weight area? That's where I do all my weights. I'm a machine convert & I can't tell you what a difference it has made in the shape of my body over when I used to do machine weights only. Go to the scary side -- you will like it!

Nope, not at all! I learned everything I needed to know by reading the stickies on the Ladies Who Lift thread here, and reading books like Body for Life from the library, and reading fitness magazines like Oxygen specifically - which are alot more about working out with weights than fashion & beauty. But really, the LWL and the exercise forum, our neighbors on this site, are the best resources!

hrbabe,
I haven't really changed it much in about 6 wks when I started. I have been able to increase to 3.7 (but sometimes i drop to 3.5). I started at 3.0 and 3.2 and I remember when that was hard. I ususally don't do an incline. I guess I should. I think when I did I felt like I had schin splints. When I do an incline it is never more then 1.5. Now for the weights at the other end of the gym... I don't want to build alot of muscle right now until I get this weight off. There does seem to be some fun stuff there though. I guess I need to go explore when those big body builders are not there. I do not get the Oxygen mag. I have buying lots of mags(they help with motivation and interest) mostly Fitness, Shape and Self. I thought Oxygen was for heavy duty weight lifters? I'll have to get this months and check it out.
You have been topping me at the gym though.... 6X a week? Sometimes I can get there 6x but it is usually 4-5 x. This week we are on Spring Break and I hope to hit it every day. If it ever warms up here in Northern NY I can get outside too!

Happy Easter!

Nice chatting with you hrbabe-talk to you soon,
Lisa

Hey Lisa, actually building more muscle is the BEST thing you can do to get the weight off. It's all about how muscle raises your metabolism and burns more calories, even at rest, than non-muscular and fat tissue. You don't have to worry about putting on too much muscle too easily, that won't happen unless you take supplements and eat as a professional bbuilder. Seriously, adding muscle to your body, is the best thing you can do right now to burn fat. Because you really don't want the numbers on the scale to just change (losing lean muscle mass and water), you really want to burn the fat off your body and increase your lean muscle mass.

But I'll step off the lecturn now and refer you to the LWL thread if you want more info.

hrbabe,
Thanks for the info. I was afraid I would build muscle as big as my legs and arms are now. I have some chunky legs! I'll be brave when I go to the gym and hit the other end. Right now it is that TOM and I hate to exercise with it!! But I will have to buck up and do it!
Hey, this challenge sounds like fun! I just printed out the rules and regs to read. When do we start??
Thanks again,
Lisa
