Default Smoked Sausage

Morning...I love smoked sausage and I was happy thinking that this was one of the things I could have on my low carb diet ...I was grilling some on Sunday and noticed that it has 4 sugar carbs per serving...I'm thinking that's not maybe a smart option for me then ?

Any of you do smoked sausage ? Is there a lower sugar version that you use? This was Eckeridge I believe.

I'm confused maybe because in my head I'm thinking I shouldn't be having sugar carbs, but maybe I'm over thinking this.

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to learn about all this and get it right.

Thanks,
Carri

Most meats are a no carb deal - I am no expert in this please note that. I know Jersey Girl can probably give ya the best advice!

But, I was using Johnsville Sausages and they only had I believe 1 carb for 2 oz and I usually eat about 4 oz... they aren't indivdual sausages though. There are definitley lower carb items. I know it's important to read the label as well and avoid foods with added sugars and things that are not allowed on Atkins, even if it meets the carb count list.

My Atkins book says foods with 3 carbs or less per serving are ok (as long as in the range of acceptable foods) even if not listed specifically in the book. So my advice would be to find a different brand with less carbs.

I went online and looked up this brand of smoked sausage. The Eckrich "Grillers" are 4 carbs per serving. A serving is 1 link. You are correct, this contains 4 grams sugar. The most disturbing part is, corn syrup is listed in the first few ingredients.

I like Hebrew National Beef Knockwurst. They are 3 carbs per serving. A serving is 1 link. They contain 0 grams of sugar and best of all, no corn syrup.

Avoiding added sugar is not only important when doing low carb, it is also important for your health.

I hope this helps
