Default Questions on ketosis:

I am doing the ideal protein diet and asked this question there and got some answers. I was hoping that someone on this forum would have some more insight. The IP forum mentioned a body fat scale that I have ordered and also I will be going to the gym for a biggest loser competition that has a scale that measures body fat.

How do I know if I am burning primarily fat?

My last weigh in I lost 5 pounds and 1.5 inches. How many inches I lose verses how many pounds I lose is a good indicator of whether or not I am losing muscle, right?? If my ketostick registers that I am in ketosis does that mean I am burning mostly fat and very little muscle?

Does diet soda play a role in ketoacidosis?

It appears that ketosis is dangerous for diabetics because the acid produced from ketosis can damage their kidneys(Ketoacidosis). I stumbled upon some research saying that the acid in diet soda can cause problems with ketosis. Can anyone clarify? Do you drink diet soda??

Is there any way of knowing for sure that my kidneys are safe??

My son was born with one kidney and I just cannot risk hurting mine. It seems that hydration is a huge component. I am getting a tanita scale that measures our water levels and body fat. I am sure it isn't a perfect predictor but I will take any help I can get to make sure I am doing this in a healthy way.
