Default Hi I just started

Hi. My name is Kelly.

I just started Atkins. I am 235.2 and working towards reaching a goal of 170 (to start). I dislike my approach to food to date and well...really I am kind of depressed at how I have let myself go. Desperately needing to change the way I eat and think about food. I looked at a couple different systems and really they seemed to "diety" (if that makes any sense). I want something that I can maintain. An honest change in eating. So after reading the book I felt that this adjustment in eating would/could really be achievable.

So I am on day three. I swear that sugar is a drug because the withdrawal is definitely there. But I know that it is natural. I have be logging my food on livestong.com. I wanted to keep my calories at about 1500, or a bit more, so that as I enter each phase the only adjustment would be the carb increase, and that I would not feel like I am starving. I was worried because I know that if I feel deprived I wont be able to maintain this change.

So here is my question. I know that I am to count net calories (carbs-dietary fibre=net). But I feel like I am eating too much! Today for example I logged 30 carbs - 15 dietary fiber = that would net me 15 carbs. But I am full. I don't want to eat anymore. I don't feel like I am going to loose any weight eating this must. I know it is about burning fat and not glucose. I read the book and the science behind it but the amount I am eating doesn't seem right. Good thing is that I am not feeling deprived so I can maintain this. Is this normal....

I never get hungry on Atkins! That is why I love it so much! I eat alot of food too. I do not count calories...just carbs. I know eventually I will have to start counting calories to continue losing but what I am doing now is working just fine. I usually lose about 1-2 lbs a week. Sometimes I do crave the foods I cannot have, but they get easier and easier to do without! Just keep on keeping on. You have to give it time. I am down 35 lbs since mid-February. Good Luck!

Hi Kelly!
I just started on 3FCs last week. Welcome! Congratulations to you, you are doing more, then I am! I am so weak when it comes to food. UGH. I used to be so darn disciplined but now I am not and I don't know how to get back to being "good" Just my humble suggestion, but try reading Denise Austin's books, she REALLY gives you the "natural" way to loose. Its not a diet it’s a life change and Atkins, though I know people love it, isn’t that healthy for you in the end. Denise Austin says any diet that tells you to cut out food groups is not a healthy one to follow. She has recipes in her books that are simple and so YUMMY! Even spaghetti!!! However, she says use whole-wheat pasta, which is what I do and you can't even tell the difference. Well depending on which brand you use. But she also believes in deserts and she even eats hamburgers and fries once per month.
Her recipes are healthy and yummy so you NEVER feel deprived. I want to make her recipes but I don’t have a kitchen because we are in construction (that's a whole other story)....so I don’t really feel like making stuff....though I wish I could.
Good luck!!!

Hi Kelly

Would you mind posting a menu of exactly what you're eating for breakfast, lunch & dinner?

sunlover it is really encouraging to hear about your results! I think I have to learn to listen to my body "like the book says" and eat when hungry and don't eat when not hungry. It is weird though because I am used to having NO CONTROL with carbs and sugars. It can even be the brown rice, the whole grained pasta, the quinoa (?sp) and I will eat it until it is gone, even if it is a "healthy" choice. It becomes unhealthy by the over consumption. But I don't feel out of control. Yes there are the sugar cravings when I am not hungry at all. Just wanting the taste but then 20 minutes later I don't want whatever I was craving. I am going to stick with this because for once I don't feel out of control.
