Getting started again in May?

I'm starting again now (was intentionally off low carb for a month then it slipped to full-scale craziness for a few extra weeks). Wow the pounds can pile on fast - yikes!

I'm actually starting back today, not waiting until Saturday, but not getting on the scale again until May 10th.

Anyone else getting started now & want a buddy?

Elstyle 04-29-2010 08:39 PM

Hi Sarah, I have restarted recently on Atkins and have quite a lot to lose, so I could use a buddy for sure. Atkins works well for me when I stick with it! My biggest issue is motivation. I can so easily rationalize not sticking with my plan. I guess the biggest problem is not having the food I need ready to eat. I do need to have some quick foods to eat. How about you? Let's check in with each other to see how our days are going? I will check back tomorrow evening my time.

Elstyle 05-01-2010 11:59 AM

Hello,
I had a good day yesterday. I stayed with protein, low carbs, all day. I was given a gift of a See's chocolate bar and butterscotch sucker and so I gave it to another friend on our drive home. When I got home, sure enough, there they were, on the floor of the car. The candy had fallen out of my friend's purse. Whew! It was a temptation, but I did resist. I will open them and throw them in the trash. It is funny how small things like that can get to you. Well...I have made a menu for the week and need to get to the grocery store.

stephiexo 05-02-2010 10:05 AM

Way to go ElStyle!!! That is some super will power you have!:) Better than me-I had a slice of cheesecake AND a soda last night:( Ah well, I'll be making up for it today!:)

sarahinparis 05-03-2010 03:44 AM

I've done fairly well getting back on track.

I had bread on Wednesday night; Saturday nite & again half a roll yesterday - all times slathered with lots and lots of butter, but still...

I live in Paris & the bread here is really good & it's been hard to resist after eating bad bread in the US for a few weeks... dumb, but true

Water is completely in place (even so I often feel dehydrated) and I am finally pretty decently stocked at home.

I travel this week so some hurdles might arise, but overall things should be ok.

My weight was really high when I came home but I've already seen some change & will just suck it up next Monday & work from there. I know a number of the pounds that came rushing on will fall off quickly in the first 10 days back on low carb, but after that they tend to stick, so until next Monday I'm considering this still the 'whoosh' period of easy come, easy go...

memoree 05-03-2010 10:24 AM

I would love a buddy as well. I did induction first of March and lost 10 pounds but then I had dinner with the hubby and ate carbs and I just have not been able to cross back over! We go on vacation in 6 weeks and I sure wish I could lose at least 15 pounds by then!

Elstyle 05-03-2010 12:22 PM

Hi,
Sarah, I cannot imagine how difficult it would be to live in Paris and not eat the wonderful bread, etc. I have never been there, but I can pretend! Ha!

I did pretty well during the weekend. However, I had a glass of wine with my low carb dinner and it knocked me out of ketosis! So now I know I cannot have alcohol for sure.

I am back on track this morning and will boil eggs for lunch and salad for tomorrow as well. I know if I don't have a plan, I go astray!

Hang in there Sarah, Memoree, and Stephie.

sweetchic82 05-03-2010 11:18 PM

Hiya everyone this is my third days of atkins induction (started on 2 May 2010) but i am so happy have lost 1.5 kg. im trying to resist hoping on the weighing scales too often lol. So far im surviving. so here i am hoping to find a good support system.

We can do this and be strong :D

MOM24QTS 05-04-2010 11:54 AM

I have found the daily weigh in threads on the chicks in control board help keep me focused and provide me many buddies.....just a thought.

memoree 05-04-2010 08:44 PM

I got on the scale this morning and I was down 3 pounds! I hadn't weighed myself in a week because I had gained a pound and got discouraged. So glad to see it move back down.

sweetchic82 05-04-2010 09:58 PM

memoree congrats thats a good drop :D

hiya everyone, just wanted to share the good news after 3 days, today is my 4th day on atkin, i have lost 2.5 kg, hope the weight will drop off, im trying to be good and not weigh myself daily but its soo hard heheh

memoree 05-05-2010 09:05 AM

thanks sweetchic. I was pleasantly surprised :)
You are so right about it being hard NOT to weigh everyday. I wanna do it every morning as soon as I wake up. It totally motivates me if I'm losing but if I see a stall, I get so discouraged and it's hard for me to continue the diet.
I'm doing induction again. This is my 3rd day. I did it last month and last 10 pounds in 2 weeks. I took 2 weeks off of Atkins because I stalled. So I counted calories for 2 weeks, lost 2 pounds but gained one back. Now I'm doing induction again.

Elstyle 05-05-2010 12:27 PM

I have not weighed in a couple weeks and I avoid it. I should at least weigh myself once a week, but I just get so disappointed. I know I am losing because my clothes feel looser, but I have had that happen before and still have only dropped a pound. I know that is better that gaining a pound, but I used to be able to lose weight quickly and now it is a struggle for every flea-bitten pound! And then if I eat something I shouldn't, I gain two. Sheesh!

Also, I have been very good this week, high protein, low carb mostly veggies, and this morning I was not showing to be in ketosis. I am wondering if early morning doesn't register rather than later in the day. I will measure again later and see what happens. How about any of you?

sweetchic82 05-05-2010 08:36 PM

memoree, woohoo thats great 10 pound loss, i would love that,im a first timer in Atkin, i didn't really believe it would work at first lol :D

Elstyle, im not using the ketosis strips, but im gauging my body reaction, like i can feel the thermogenic effects, like when im doing classes at my gym, i sweat more and at night my face feels hot to touch and when my throat is dry i drinks loads of water, today there is another 0.5 kg drop whoopee.. but i think what stall my weightloss was the whole lot of prawn, mushroom stirfry i had last night(so i am avoiding mushrooms for now), im planning to stick to cheese omelette or cheddar pieces at night . Im trying to be strong and resist weighing myself :D.

memoree 05-06-2010 09:18 AM

Elstyle, there is no way I can not weigh myself when I'm not cheating. I do it every morning! I wish I could stop but I seem to have a problem there. I'm a weigh daily addict! On days I don't see the scale more I do get depressed but on days I see it move, I'm in the best of moods.

There is a Flaxseed muffin recipe on this board that is AWESOME. I eat that every morning for breakfast. (sick of eggs, lol) I did tweak it for me. My version consist of 1/4 c. flaxseed meal, 1 egg, 1/4 tsp. baking powder, and sweetner for taste (I usually put about 1/8 c. of splenda in with it but others used SF syrups.) Microwave for one minute. Let cool completely, Will be wet when you first take it out of microwave. Drys quickly. I love this lil muffin! It's only 1 net carb!

memoree 05-06-2010 09:26 AM

sweetchic,
This is my first attempt at it as well. And it's working! I'm so excited!

Yesterday I had to go to Target on my lunch break and purchase a belt. My pants wouldn't stay up! LOL. I was tired of pulling them up. I didn't realize when I left the house they were that loose. That was a great "feel good" purchase! :)

sweetchic82 05-07-2010 11:12 PM

Memoree, woohoo congrat on the "feel good purchase" heheh, it is definately worth all the sacrifice :D...We can do this :D

Elstyle 05-08-2010 12:30 PM

Hi all,
I still have not weighed myself. I am feeling much better, sleeping better, more energy, and a tiny bit loser in my jeans, soooo..... I just still don't want to weigh. I am doing great staying with my program, but this weekend is a challenge. I am part of a Mother's Day party today at the Old Spaghetti Factory...! Sheesh! I did look at the menu and if I stick with the chicken Caesar salad I should be ok. Tomorrow I am invited to my daughter-in-law's home for a pasta lunch as well. This is a great effort on her part, so I don't want to bog anything down. I will be as careful as possible. Also, I have a big week next week, have to be out of town, and am planning in my mind what I will eat out. Hey, this is life and I need to deal with it. I will be on this program for a very long time and I need to make it work in my life. Thanks to all of you who contribute to this thread. I really enjoy reading your posts and find it very helpful. I am going to try the Flaxseed Muffin as soon as possible! What kind of dish do you cook it in?

fatBgone07 05-08-2010 04:46 PM

Hello! I make this muffin every morning for breakfast - even at work! At home I cook it in a soup mug. At work I cook it in a disposable bowl from our cafeteria.

Please note somewhere on this thread that they used 1/4 cup of splenda - the recipe I follow calls for 1 packet. 1/4 cup of splenda will results in more than 1 net carb. I use cinnamon too.

I am now past induction, so I use this muffin for a personal pizza too. After it is cooked, you just add a little pizza sauce and then toppings. I like it!

Keep up the good work!

memoree 05-09-2010 10:29 AM

I cook my muffin in a small rubbermaid bowl. I cook a few up and wrap them in saran wrap for work.

Sometimes I use more splenda if I want a sweeter muffin and sometimes I just put a dab. I eat at least one everyday and right now I'm losing anywhere from 1/2 - 1 pound a day. (I weigh daily, I'm an addict!)

memoree 05-09-2010 10:32 AM

oops, my bad, that was my recipe and a typo. (I edited the original post)
I use about 1/8 c. splenda for my muffin.
The original recipe also calls for 1 tbsp of butter but I have omitted that and can not tell the difference.

sweetchic82 05-09-2010 08:45 PM

Hiya Elstyle, we can do it , just be strong and plan ahead, i had my mothers birthday last week and i managed to resist the delicious looking ice cream cake, thankfully there were some fried shrimps at the birthday spread so i ate those instead hhehe and tried to look as if im not dieting , some people will not understand and try to force carbs on us heheh. Its a challenge but we can overcome it, im just thinking of all the lovely clothes i can use to motivate me hehe.

sarahinparis 05-10-2010 09:13 AM

I've been really struggling with getting back on track. I tried, made it 2 days, and caved in. Then did the same thing last week, made it Monday-Friday evening, then the weekend was a mess.

So now this week I'm taking a different approach - much smaller goals, much shorter focus (just until Thursday, then I'll make a new plan). It's a stressful week for me.

sweetchic82 05-10-2010 10:22 PM

sarahinparis,

I understand where you are coming from, just have to start back the next day no matter what, we are all supporting you and ourselves in this journey, losing weight is never easy, sometimes i wonder why i put myself on this journey but when i listed down the benefits of doing so, i get back on track and try to strengthen my will power. We can do this, just believe in ourselves :D. Sometimes when we are stressed we deserve a day off .

Updates Day 10 induction: 4.5 Kg loss. But today is also the start of my TOM, boohoo so im not weighing myself until its over*crosses fingers*. Im planning to do extended induction :D

memoree 05-11-2010 08:09 AM

sarah, it's definitely a bumpy ride on this journey but you CAN do it!! Sometimes taking a day off is just what is needed. Don't give up!

sweetchic, congrats on the weight loss! woohoo! you're doing great! I plan on doing extended induction as well. I can't believe it but on this diet I do not get hungry at all.

sweetchic82 05-11-2010 08:29 PM

memoree, thanks hun :D, we can do this together, we just have to be strong(which is hard some days), move more and drink more water. But as im having my TOM, my exercise schedule is going all out of wonk heheh the bloat factor is not helping , i will try to exercise at least 20 mins a day :D.

memoree 05-12-2010 10:13 AM

exercise is what I need. I hate it though!! I do like to walk and ride my bike but it's been raining so much here I haven't gotten out. (I hate treadmills and stationary bikes, just bores me)
Ok enough excuses I REALLY need to do it. I should pull out a video this evening and walk the pounds off. :carrot:

sweetchic82 05-12-2010 11:48 PM

Oooo i love leslie sansone video, but now im focusing on Turbo Jam :D, i love chalene johnson she is soo inspiring :D

imstuffed 05-13-2010 03:51 AM

Congrats everyone on they're progress :)

Sweetchic82 - I saw you mentioned not weighing yourself during your TOM. I've seen this mentioned before but i'm curious as to why might not lose weight during this time if we are still eating the same. Any ideas?

They do not encourage weighing in during your TOM, because it affects the ketosis process ultimately the weight loss process, thus it is better to weigh after your period end because that will show your true weight loss :D

imstuffed 05-14-2010 09:14 PM

Thanks Sweetchic82... It's funny the little bits of information that can actually make a big difference :)

Elstyle 05-15-2010 11:47 AM

Hi all,
Back in town and it has been very stressful!!! I ate carbs all week!!!!! and then became sick with a cold!!! I have another very stressful week ahead. I feel awful and just want this to be all over with! I feel mad at myself for not making good choices and for not thinking enough about what I could eat instead of quick sandwiches etc. I am down in the dumps and need some help! But I do have one good thing happening. I have a friend who has to move and she is giving me her treadmill. I have always wanted one. Walking is my preferred exercise and I don't like to walk in our neighborhood because of the dogs. So I have avoided that exercise. Now I will be able to get some walking in each day....yay!

imstuffed 05-15-2010 01:28 PM

Hi Elstyle, sorry to hear you're feeling down. The best advice i can give is to forget about the last week, it's over now and no matter how much fretting you do over what you've been eating you can't change it! Take a deep breath and look to how wonderful your future will be when you make the right choices and eat the right foods. You're going to feel so good inside and out :) Let us know how you get on with the treadmill.. i've been considering investing in one too :)

Hiya Elstyle, its ok you can still start back the induction process, woohoo on getting the treadmill, that is great news.

Update: After 2 weeks of induction ending on 15 May 2010, i have lost 5.5kg. Now im on extended induction, on day two: have lost a total of 6KG so far.so i believe atkins really works,im hoping to continue until end of May . Then i will decide whether to continue or with a modified version, i so miss fruits hehhe :D

sarahinparis 05-17-2010 06:53 AM

Hi All, checking back in

I've been doing well - my babystep plan worked - setting my sights just on Thursday gave me a small enough window to get a good start last week, then I re-committed through the weekend & today am able to commit to a whole week.

I'm also starting back on exercise, which I've neglected for far too long.

I post regularly on my blog but only check the Atkins forum once a week - but I'm rooting for all of you from afar!

memoree 05-17-2010 08:05 PM

Elstyle, I feel ya! This weekend was my daughters birthday and we had a cookout with burgers, fried potatoes (my fave), pizza, cookies, cake and ice cream. I caved...it sure was good though! But not worth the 4 pounds I gained from it all. I'm hoping most of it is water and I'll get back to myself within the next few days.
Tomorrow is a new day and I'll start all over. It did taste good however I felt so yuck after eating it. Back to no carbs so I can feel good again.

Sarah: glad the baby steps are working! yay!

Elstyle 05-20-2010 09:00 PM

Hi all....thank you so much for your thoughtful and helpful comments!!!! I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and I am feeling much better from my cold. I have my new treadmill and plan to get on it tomorrow for my first exercise in a great while. I will start slow and just add a little each day. It is going to be so much more convenient! It seems like there is no end to the birthdays, holidays, celebrations, sheesh! I am going to have to get a plan for those times. I am back on induction and I really do like it. I always feel so much better and have more energy. Thank you again for your kind words...This is the first time I have really felt a connection with an online support group. I think it is because it is specifically Atkins. Most people do not understand Atkins and so I can't really talk about it with them.

memoree 05-21-2010 09:12 AM

congrats on the treadmill!
I did some speed walking yesterday. I did 2 miles. It felt so good (until this morning!LOL) my muscles are a bit sore.
I hate exercise, I really do but when I do it I feel so much better!
I'm sure you'll feel just as great once you start walking with your treadmill.

Elstyle 05-26-2010 01:06 AM

I am finally through the tough weeks; I am back on track with my induction and made a wonderful vegie soup that I really enjoyed. I also tried a curry beef recipe which was so so. The treadmill is great. I need to read up on how to set up a workout, but I am taking it slowly. I have not been exercising for quite a long time. I sit at a computer all day and my favorite activities are reading and watching old movies! But I am hanging in there. Thanks for all the encouragement!

imstuffed 05-26-2010 07:58 AM

Good for you elstyle! What did you put in your veggie soup? Im looking for inspiration.. not getting enough veg at all!
