Good news on low carb
I love to read articles that laud the low carb lifestyle -- but I think I love it even more when I hear first-hand stories of medical doctors who have the good sense to promote it to patients whose quality of life can be improved by cutting out refined carbohydrates and eating wholesome foods.
Tonight I was visiting an elderly friend, and she had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes several months ago. She'd lost a huge amount of weight alarmingly fast, and when she went to the doctor, he made that diagnosis, put two and two together, and recommended a low carb diet for her. At first, she was put on Metformin twice a day. Gradually, as she decreased her intake of carbohydrates, he reduced her medication to once per day. She looks better and has put on a little weight, but most importantly, her diabetes is under control.
Hopefully the rest of the medical community will see the light someday too.
