Breads?

I just got the book yesterday and have been reading it. I do have a question though after skipping ahead to the later phases. When it comes to breads, baking mixes, and flour products. Do you purchase from the Atkins site or can these products be purchased or found in whole foods stores? Is there products out there that are just as good?

I personally don't eat breads or use baking mixes but, there are several low carb sites online such as Netrition you could order these items from.

I typically don't do breads either. If I MUST have a sandwich I'll purchase low carb whole grain tortilla wraps. They are in the refrigerated section near the dairy.

Not a low carber so I don't know if they are 'legal' but my mother in law buys these great low carb pitas from Costco. My Costco doesn't carry them unfortunately. They are way lower in calories than a regular pita and the other stats look good as well.

My Dad who is diabetic eats Arnold Bakery Carb Counting Multigrain bread....6 net carbs per slice.

I know Dr. Atkins mentions having a cheesecake when you're at your goal weight. How do you count that if it has a crust? and also Chocolate :)
Is this really in my future? :)

You don't have to wait till you're at your goal weight to enjoy cheesecake....there are low carb versions of cheesecake....even those that are suitable for Induction.
As for chocolate, that should be avoided during Induction and added occasionally during OWL. Lindt makes an 85% cocoa chocolate that is very low in carbs.

I'm looking forward to OWL then. :)

Julian bakery makes a really good low carb bread that is FULL of fiber (like 14 grams). You can buy it directly from them or Whole Foods carries it. It is like 2 carbs per slice I think. I love it but don't eat too much as it can slow ME down. It freezes really well and makes yummy toast with butter or cream cheese. But once again, I am doing my best to stay at 20 carbs a day so I save it as an occasional treat.

I don't plan to ever really go back to bread & flour (or rice, or potatoes). I'm really happy eating this way without them, and I'd be afraid to open the gates on a few low carb products and then be in the habit of having bread again...

My extra carbs, if ever I'm so lucky as to be able to have more carbs, will likely be from more fruit & yogurt. Those are the things I miss the most. And not being able to eat unlimited veggies - that's hard too.
