  • Seriously everyone-this is not personal. Please try to be objective.I took a semester class in college on research.ANYONE can write an article like above.Be honest though,is it logical?I think the discussion has been pretty fair actually. And if you truly believe in you way of eating, nothing on these posts should feel hurtful at all.Its like I was told as a child...100 people might tell you you are stupid but it will not bother you because you KNOW YOU ARE NOT.If you believe in Atkins and it is working for you then great.I personally have concerns with article (NOT Atkins).Fruits and veggies are killing us..?????OMG!!!WHAT????That man is a quack,quack,quack.Period.I copied this and shared with every doctor at work today. The posts were mild compared to comments I heard at work today. Not a personal attack. You friends on 3fc are just saying..dont jump on this guys bandwagon.Plus remember...the article was posted and asking for comments from viewers.
  • Quote: This thread is going something like this:

    "Check out this article."

    "That article sucks."

    "But Atkins is good."

    "Yeah. But that article sucks."

    "But ... Atkins is good."

We're arguing apples & oranges, which is probably not the right metaphor with that article!

    Exactly.

Edit: To be fair, I am a whole foods devotee and believe to my core that a diet rich in vitamin rich foods is best. I am also someone who does best with a diet that restricts certain carbs. I also think this article is, as Mandalinn put it, full of logical fallicies.
  • Well, maybe this particular thread wasn't the right place for me to let loose my wrothful fury...but then again, maybe it was. To be honest, I don't give a hoot about the article. I only skimmed it. And I'm very glad the mods are monitoring for low-carb digs...but I've been a member here for about six months and trust me, I've seen them. Mostly covert, but they're there. I just haven't responded to them/narced them out because I'm not the 3FC police. So yeah I posted with an agenda ~ to specifically go off-topic and bring up something that's been eating at me (pun intended!) since day one.

I hope no one leaves the board over perceived slights to the low-carb lifestyle. There are plenty of us on here who support it, and I do believe the vast majority of 3FCers either are fine with it, or have no opinion one way or the other, which is also fine. Really!

In closing...I bet the article's author would be OVERJOYED to know he's being discussed thoroughly on the internet's greatest diet board!
  • I got this article from another board I frequent..and frankly, it didn't stir up the rukus there that it has here. As I said when I posted it...its quite interesting....thats still my opinion.

The mods monitor for digs of all kinds, including those on specific plans (unless they're medically unsound, like MasterCleanse or etc). On the "3FC Police" part...as a mod, I'd rather these posts get reported using the "Report Post" function. If one person is bothered, someone else likely is too, and the mods just can't read every post (ya'll are chatty!). So please, if a post is spam, derogatory, insulting, or makes you feel attacked, press the report button and let the mods handle it, rather than bottling it up. It's a really important part of keeping the board supportive.
  • Quote: if someone in Calorie Counters or Weight Watchers posted an article that said "People on Atkins are Poisoning Themselves with Meat" (which isn't something I believe to be true, just something that is fairly equivalent to the article's assertion "Eating fruit and whole grains is poisoning yourself"), the argument would come up there as well, regardless of what forum it was posted on. Posting an article, I believe, opens it up for debate and discussion, which can sometimes get out of hand.
If an anti-meat/anti-Atkins article was posted on another forum, I know Im not the type of person to go over there and ridicule it or ridicule anyone who believes it. It's not my way. Im here for support and to support others if I can. What really irked me was the "you can't possibly belive that?" tone of some of the posts and the "I'm an authority so I know what's what" tone of some of the posts.

    But...what's done is done.

I will look at it as .... people dont agree with the article, and maybe not even agree with Atkins, but I know what works for me. There are some GREAT people on this site who offer phenomenal support and advice and Id be foolish to not to be here for that.

    1. Please read full thread.

    2. Please read Julies last post twice.
    1. I have read full thread, maybe you can reread my posting where I shared my experience! Think before you post snarky comments.

    2. Condescendingly she said...

I was not responding to Julie if you look at who I quoted in my posting and I was also thanking kaplods!!!

I read it, on the Atkins forum, because I find many low-carb concepts very interesting, so I'm always up for more (good) information. But that article was not helpful in any way, because the logic was so poor. Since the original post said "Check out this article," I felt free - no, I felt invited - to comment on the article.
  • Quote: In any case, I think I've made my point and don't want to overstay my welcome (this being the Atkins section), so I'll excuse myself before I give JerseyGyrl any more grief.
I'm sure you've heard the saying about opinions....we all have them The world would be a pretty boring place if we all agreed with everything.

    It did???

Right. And your comments [as it seemed to me] were only about the article. I didnt feel them to be snarky or to ridicule in any way. There were just some that came across that way and to me, it didnt seem supportive. That's all. I was really surprised by it to be honest.

Not everyone has to agree with the article. I dont agree with all his points. I dont care too much about the article as much as I felt an attack to low-carbers by some and it made me question if this place is for me...now I did question that out loud, so I do expect some comments on that.

Simona...you are still quite new to the Atkins forum...and I'm sorry this whole "discussion" has gotten out of hand. With all due respect, the comments I believe you are referring to, are from those who don't ordinarly frequent the Atkins section of this site. Of all the eating plans out there, Atkins is probably the least understood. That being said, if its working for you, don't worry about what others say. There is support & encouragement here
    All the best to you!!!

There is GREAT support and encouragment here...from those actually doing Atkins You alone are a phenomenal support and resource for newbies like me. You have no reason to apologize. I agree with you...the article was very interesting. It sparked an interesting ... ummm....conversation.

It also made me realize that I still have to get used to people not really understanding Atkins or even understanding how and why people follow this WOE/lifestyle or what's written about it by other professionals.

The truth is...Im seeing AMAZING results - not only in my weight, but how I feel and that is REALLY what's important to me. It's nice to not be sick and in bed for the 1st time in over 30 years and I know that has to do with Atkins and nothing else.

I'll take support from and give support to Atkineers on this site, and learn and try and understand that people will post things that will annoy me. The way I react to them is in my control, not anyone else's.
  • I don't think this section of the board has seen this much traffic since...well...since ever! Pretty cool!

    Hi Simona ~ welcome!

OK, it said "Quite an interesting article." You can't be saying that didn't mean check out the article and comment, unless you meant the thread to just have no responses. I'm sorry, but you've got to be kidding me.
