Default Healthy spices

With the news lately about turmeric and arthritis, cancer, etc, for example see this:

http://www.webmd.com/content/article/129/117307.htm

And the status of cinnamon as a Superfood, I was wondering if there are a list of spices which have verified health benefits. I'm trying to stick to properties that have been verified by scientific study, and not only traditional wisdom.

Anybody have any reliable links?

Anne

I found this one on national Geographics News.. looks interesting. I haven't read the entire article yet, so no idea how accurate this is

This at MSN

The only other one I ran across was the one you already posted.

I was curious about this after reading what you all wrote. My ex-MIL swore that taking a tsp. of chili powder each day kept away all sorts of maladies. I was always skeptical, and then I read your links and it reminded me of what I thought was a bunch of hoo-ey. Hmmm....

I think I'll look around a bit. This is an interesting topic.

It's more of an herb than a spice, but cilantro has antibacterial properties as well as being an antioxidant. And since it combines well with chile peppers, I eat a lot of it

I'm one of those people to whom cilantro doesn't taste good - so I avoid it when I can. However, I love Mexican food so total avoidance isn't always possible.

We live in a semi-agricultural area and one day at my old job, a co-worker brought in fresh cilantro from her boyfriend's farm. The smell drove me batty--I couldn't imagine anyone liking it! Well, today, I'm a confirmed cilantro lover--okay, that's a bit strong, but I definitely like it!! (And I ADORE Mexican foods!)

I did a search for cinnamon at WebMD and it states that it helps pancreas function--even for diabetics. Here's the link:
