Question foods that lower blood sugar ??

Are there any foods that lower blood sugar? I've heard/read that cinnamon and green tea are helpful, but I don't know if there is any truth to it?

Thanks,

I have heard all kinds of rumors, but in my personal experience, I have found nothing very effective in the food area. The best method of lowering blood sugar I have found is walking. When I walk daily, for 30 minutes, my glucose levels are awesome. I skipped for a few weeks, and just did water aerobics due to the heat, and my sugar levels crept up. I blamed it on my Byetta pen, and what I was eating (though they were both relatively the same as they had always been...) then I started back to walking, and my levels came back down. I just can't say enough about how good it is to walk. It doesn't have to be fast, just a nice leisurely pace sustained for 30 minutes or more. That, coupled with high fiber, and lower carb, seems to do the trick for me.

Thanks Monet. I sort of suspected that the things I've heard about foods are just rumor....I have started walking and eating more sensibly, and my sugars have started to come down. I guess I was just looking for an extra kick...

I have found that the higher I can get my fiber intake, the lower and more stable my blood sugars are.

I have heard that fiber is helpful, too, Jerie. I have tried to increase my fiber intake, and even if it doesn't help the blood sugar, at least it is good for me!

Cinnamon worked for me. I was sick and my bg was 200-something.

I chewed a stick of cinnamon. I actually ate it. It was disgusting, but I was desperate to bring it down.

Within 30 minutes my bg was 91.

I haven't had any high numbers like that since (thank GOD), so I didn't get a chance to try it again, but I'm fairly certain it wasn't a cooincidence.

It can't hurt unless you take a ridiculous amount, so why not give it a try?
