Hi,

I don't think we have met, so nice to meet you. I have to say it really upsets me to read that you had to come off your meds because you couldn't afford them. I love the US, but I hate the health care system. Considering you are really depressed now I think you are brilliant being back on a diet, and I really hope you do well. It's good that you have that wedding to look forward to and looking great in the matron of honour dress. What does it look like? Take care and I hope the depression won't get any worse.

Hugs,

Ammi

bridesmaids dress that's the worst part about it... i don't live in the states..... i live in canada and i still can't afford my meds. **** i can't even afford to buy a new inhaler for my asthma and mine is out!

a pic of the bridesmaid dresses is attached...in raspberry and cream...just the plain skirt not the frilly ones. should be a nice dress once made.

Angry

You can't get meds in CANADA?!? How the heck...?

I'm in the U.S., without insurance proper, but I have help paying stuff through my employer. I thought people in Canada paid horrible taxes so that you can get the meds.

Can you get St. John's Wort? In the U.S. it's an OTC herb that will at least take the edge off depression.

Sorry, I don't know the difference between the US and Canadian rules when it comes to meds and paying for them, but from the sounds of Victoria's post, it's pretty bad that you can't get them there. In the UK, although waiting lists and standard of care aren't the best, at least surgery is free. If you are on a low income, like I am, meds are free too. I wonder if Victoria's tip about the St John's wort will be good for you? Can't hurt to give it a go.

As for the dress, it's gorgeous, I hope you will be posting a photo of you in it!!!

Hugs,

Ammi

Victoria congrats to your sister on her wedding. Thanks for sharing the pic of your maid of honour dress, but when you get some photos I hope you will show us a pic of you wearing it. Show off that lovely new figure of yours you have worked so hard to achieve. It's really a gorgeous dress, was that the colour of it as well?

Hugs,

Ammi

in canada basic medical is free, although that's notreally true anymore. in the province i live in its against the law to not be part of the 'care' program and it costs $50/month, unless of course you make under $19,000 then it only costs $30. Medications, however, all only covered if you have a seperate medical plan that you pay for. its usually provided at a reduced rate through work, or university. other thanthat you'rescrewed. not such a pretty ppicture huh?

NF, can you go back to your doctor and talk to them about over the counter meds? I would not suggest taking anything unless you talk to them first. Some times these herbal remedy's can do more harm then good, especially if you don't know how much to take.

I do know that in the US, pharmaceutical companies are coming together and making sure that people who can't afford medications are getting it. I have to go look for the link, I'll post it when I find it.

part of the problem is that i don't have a regular doctor. i haven't had a gp since i was about 22. i've now heard word that there is a clinic that will give free meds if you see their docs so i'll be checking that out.

Nef, I'm Canadian too. Have you asked your MD (if you can get an appt - I know about the shortage situation in BC) to give you free samples? They usually have tons of them, and will give them to people without funds who need them. Good luck

i've tried that but because of too many break ins and thefts of medication most clinics, where i have to go cause i don't have a doc, don't carry samples. its a really shi**y situation.

I'm in the U.S. and my first year on Zoloft was on samples. I couldn't barely afford the doctor much less meds. I paid $65 a month to see the doctor for 15 minutes and get my samples.

When they made it clear that I would have to start paying for both, I switched to a regular GP who doesn't need to see me every month. I made it clear that I can monitor myself and will make an appointment if I go downhill. I've gotten away with every 3 months this way.

Samples are worth checking out.
