Default Insomnia?

Can insomnia be caused by a new exercise routine? Every since I have started working out more I cannot sleep for more than 2.5-3 hours. Wide awake at 4 am is not fun anymore. LOL. This is a huge difference for me, I usually sleep about 10 hours a day.
Maybe it is just a coincidence?

I'm actually the opposite! The more I exercise the better I sleep. I love the sheer exhaustion from working out. I take a few night classes at my gym so I can literally come home and collapse into bed for 7-8 hours continuous sleep. Prior to exercising, I would be up at all hours of the day and night due to anxiety. The exercise actually helps me with my stress and anxiety, it's like a natural cure!

I hope you figure out what is going on. It sounds very frustrating.

It matters when you exercise.

Are you working out in the morning or the evening?

I work out first thing in the morning and then at night. It used to help me sleep, that's why I started doing it at night.

Personally, I find that exercise in the morning helps me feel better and more energetic all day. But by the same token, exercise at night can keep me awake and energetic for hours.

I'd suggest experimenting with what time you exercise. If you try making sure you don't do it within, say, 3-4 hours of bedtime, maybe you'll have less trouble sleeping. Worth a try, right?
