Default Why can't I lose the weight? :( so sad/frustrated, feel like giving up..

So I've been eating healthy and exercising for more than a year now but I just can't seem to lose the weight. I'm eating no more than 1400 kcals a day and exercise about 3 times a week (HIIT, cardio, weights). it's just so frustrating of you're giving it your all but seeing no difference on the scale. I do feel stronger, but i am still overweight. The most frustrating part might be the fact that people around me, who know how healthy i've been eating and how i've been exercising, ask me how come I'm not losing weight.. It just makes me want to cry, but i try to stay strong.. However, i do feel like giving up, even though this is something I've wanted ever since i can remember.
Today at dinner, my dad made pizza and I just came home from a workout and told him i was going to make myself a salad. Even though he does support me, he jokingly said 'you've been eating salads for so long now, but i don't see a difference so you might as well have pizza' and it just broke my heart. I didnt know what to say so i just laughed at it but made myself a salad anyway. This is just one of the many examples i have of things that i hear almost weekly, even though i am working so hard on losing that weight. I just wish that i would lose the weight like people i see on the internet and people i know.. I used to get so much motivation out of before/after pictures but these days i just feel like crying when i see them, because i realise that i might not look like that ever..

Sigh, sorry for the long post but just had to get that off my chest

If you are indeed creating a calorie defecit, you would lose weight.

Do you measure your food? Or just guess? Do you log your food in a food diary? I recommend My fitness pal. Don't "Eat back" calories that you burn either, as it's not exact to measure what we burn and we don't.

If you've done all of that, you are creating a deficit, then I recommend seeing a doctor. My thyroid was having issues causing me to not lose weight. Added medication and boom, normal weight loss and I wasn't as tired all the time along with some other things.

Your stats say you went from 210 lbs. to 163 lbs. Is that not accurate? Also, have you thought of calorie cycling? I would recommend eating lower calories if you can (say have 1,200 on most days) and then a few times a week, have 1400-1500. If that doesn't work, perhaps a trip to the doctor would be in order. I feel for you!

it looks like what you do is just enough to maintain your weight. go to 1200 cal and more cardio. Drink more water.
What gives me the boost of weight loss is fasting for 24 hours once a week. Without that i would just be maintaining as well. You can try it fasting once a week.

Dreamer you have made great progress, do not quit!

Try some tweaking to your diet or exercise but do not quit!

best of luck

I'm going through a frustrating time, but I know it has to do with eating more calories than I should on the weekends, and changes going on with my body due to aging...anyway, for me at this stage, not gaining is as important as losing has been at different times. I'm not saying I like it, but I'm accepting this fact - Not regaining is a victory. Be proud of that.

I am 5'4" and I weigh 164 (with clothes on weighing in at WW). So i'm similar height and weight as you (although I'm probably much older).

I use a Fitbit so I know what calories I burn.

On days that I don't make an effort to exercise I often burn in the 1400 to 1500 calorie range (I've even occasionally dropped below 1400 if I had a day where I was at my desk all day). Exercising does add to it, but not all that much.

If I ate 1400 calories a day consistently I would gain weight. I know this because last year I did gain weight when I was eating that much.

I try to average about 1200 calories a day and doing that -- when I'm active -- I lose about .8 pounds a week. For me, that requires exercising about 5 days a week usually for 45 minutes to an hour. Now, I can't run (bad knees) so I've mostly done stuff like walking, exercise bike, elliptical, weights.

I suspect that you just aren't creating enough of a calorie deficit. If you don't want to eat less, then you may need to move more.

Stick with exercise 3 days a week but eat closer to 1,200, or eat your usual 1,400 and exercise minimum 5 days a week.

At least you're maintaining so not all is lost!

Log everything and most importantly do not quit!!

I really, really struggle too. It's funny, because usually people starting hear about cutting soda, fast food, fried food, and so on - but I have never eaten any of that stuff, always had high water intake and my diet has always been pretty good. So I cut portion sizes, made my diet even healthier and cleaner, and hit the gym. Very slow, minimal results. What did give me a boost was Vitamin D. I had my bloodwork checked for all sorts - including Vitamin D, and found I had low levels. I took higher than recommended doses to get myself back to a normal level, and ten pounds just sort of vanished. Now, to get beyond that ten pounds, I am struggling.
