I'm around my calorie limit for the day....Do you ever learn to control the "food demon" or is it with you forever? Any experience or tips?
(in my last post I talked about after workout soreness, thanks for all the great answers and advice, i bought some protein shake and my body feels so much better!)
For me, it got easier over time. I still have to fight sometimes though.
I routinely drink a cup of decaf tea before bed. The routine tells me food is done for the day, and it also fills me up if I'm feeling a little hungry.
That doesn't always cut it though. Sometimes I have a snack. Like just now, I had some almonds cuz my stomach was too alert to fall for the tea trick.
I don't think a 100 or 200 calorie snack over your limit would hurt your weight loss, so long as it doesn't happen regularly. If you do feel v hungry each night, you could try redistributing your cals so that a couple hundred are saved for bedtime.
I power through it. I win mostly but sometimes I do cave in. It's my demon for sure. It does help to have a post-eating routine, for me that's turning out the lights in the kitchen, brushing my teeth and going through my evening skincare routine. It's like a signal for my eating to shut down. If I don't go through the routine then chances are that I'll have to face off with the hunger demon.
It depends. If it is true hunger, then no. If it is just an urge to eat, snacky feeling, then yeah, I can ignore it, do something else and it goes away. Hunger though tends to bite me if I try to ignore it.
For me it gets easier over time, BUT, I still have the occasional really freaking HARD day where all I can think about is food. Those are terrible and sometimes it is just a matter of gutting it out with the knowledge that the next day will be easier.
So I think of the food demon as always with me, but I keep it tame(ish) by making good decisions day after day and setting myself up for success instead of failure...
I agree, it does get a little bit easier with time. I have had to tell myself, more times then I can count "I am in charge of what goes through my lips...not my stomach" Now if I am REALLY hungry (and not just wanting to eat from boredom) then I will have some jello, cottage cheese, cheese stick, a slice of two of lunch meat, etc to get me through....I have become dependent on drinking LOTS of fluids! When I get bored I will have a diet soda, tea or will drink about 500cc of water. It is a daily battle I think, but does it get easier over time. I also think that when you lower your daily amount of carbs...the cravings tend to go away as well. I have noticed that myself lately...the more protein I have...the less cravings!
If I'm super hungry, I go for a cup of creamy soup like 65 calorie cream of zucchini, cream of asparagus or any pureed low calorie soup. I usually eat a cup of soup for lunch, so I have a freezer full of homemade soups portioned out.
I try to drown the jerk...Drink water and see if that helps. It usually does, and even if it doesn't and I decide to go over my allotment for the day, my stomach is full of water and I only have room for something small anyways.

Reason: whoops, no name calling allowed, even towards hunger demons. :)
