A friend of mine just facebook-shared this article about some people donating their A&F clothing to the homeless, in response to the CEO's recent nonsense.
I think it's pretty fitting, as the homeless are one of the most marginalized groups around, & are certainly not what the CEO would consider "worthy" of his clothing.
I know this project was meant to do good, but I can't help but feel weird about it. If it's not okay to put overweight people in a special case, it's not okay either to do the same with homeless people...
TurboMammoth- I have my doubts about the delivery as well, but I wouldn't be offended if the idea had been to buy up donated A&F clothes and have overweight people don their logo. Still, your right, it doesn't set well in the delivery. Donating the clothes seems like a fabulous idea, throwing them at homeless people on the street as he does in the video is off-putting.

I don't know.
This is where I am. For me, it's just putting more weight behind the idea that homeless people are the worst people, I don't know. It makes me uncomfortable.

Thank you for writing this. I couldn't find the words to say this in the right way.
Obviously I want the homeless clothed and warm but not in that context with the A&F clothes. They deserve better.
Here's an idea... For every A&F item of clothing you own, donate 1 other item to charity, or to a food bank. Then we can all have a massive A&F bonfire!! I don't own any, and now I never will
I don't own any A&F clothes either and now I don't plan to...I didn't watch the video but I wouldn't condone throwing anything at homeless people in general, be in clothing or whatever....I like to idea that the clothes are going to a good cause and I don't think it should matter what that "cause" is ....around here people can donate clothes to a church-based organization who then gives it out to families in need and a lot of items go there, including things that my boys have outgrown

I get what y'all are saying about it being somewhat offensive to the homeless, but I think the idea is to include them in something that was meant to be exclusive to them (among others). As I said before, they are a highly ignored group & I think the A&F clothing being donated to them is a way of saying to that CEO guy that anyone is worthy enough, all people matter even if he doesn't think so.
I can see how it comes across like "Oh, we're giving the clothes to the homeless, the least of society." But I don't think that was the intention at all. Besides, anyone could become homeless for any number of reasons, whether they be fat, thin, gay, straight, unemployed, employed, male, female, adult, child, elderly, religious, nonreligious, etc. etc.
