Default Wow! Alton Brown's Moo-less Chocolate Pie Stuff

I know every once in a while people post asking about "more healthy" desserts so I though I would post this. I just tried out Alton Brown's recipe for chocolate pie filling using tofu and it is really spectactular. Very dense and chocolately, and I only used 4 ingredients and no cooking. His recipe is here: Alton Brown's Moo-less Chocolate Pie. I think it would be a great idea for a special occasion (birthday party etc) for someone who wants to indulge a bit but not go off the rails. NO ONE who does not know will imagine tofu is the main ingredient. It tastes like something you could have at a high end restaurant.

I am not a big tofu eater, but our local grocery has it inexpensively so I have been trying it more. I got the silken tofu container, drained it and used half the block (about 2 x 2 x 5in), melted a 75% cocoa chocolate bar in the microwave. Added a teaspoon of vanilla and rum and blended it using my stick blender, then kept it overnight in the fridge. That made about 2-1/2 to 3 cups worth. As I made it, it comes out very dark chocolate, so if that is too dark for you, you might need to add some sweetener or use milk chocolate. His original recipe uses chocolate chips but a better quality chocolate will only improve it. In the comments for his recipe there are lots of suggested variations also.

As I made it, a portion (his recipe makes 8 servings of about 3/4 cup volume each) has 238 cal, 6.5g protein, 15.1 g fat, 29.6g carb. (3.1g fiber). Your tofu/chocolate choices may vary the calories a bit. I believe it's also possible to find "lite" tofu with fewer calories so you could keep an eye out for that.

It's so rich that size serving actually made me a bit queasy afterwards, and I have a very high dark chocolate tolerance, or at least used to. If I served it at a party, I would use half a serving and put it in spoonfuls in little shot glasses (which is a trendy thing apparently, I saw it at a hotel buffet last year) interlayered with whipped cream or cool whip, and maybe some berries or crushed almonds.

ETA: Aha, they are called "Dessert Shooters", apparently. Like this.
