I'm thinking of buying one through Amazon that's gotten rave reviews, but I'm wondering how handy it is to have? I've always used measuring cups before but was wondering if anyone weights their food and if they prefer it that way? I don't have a dishwasher and am thinking it'd be a lot easier to weigh whatever I am eating instead of rewashing measuring cups all day long.
I have a Soehnle (model 66xxx)--I chose for looks as well as function, since it sits out in my kitchen all the time. I like it, and as you say, it's more convenient to portion in/into what you're cooking or serving in rather than bringing measuring cups into play.
I have to echo the previous sentiments - we use our kitchen scale ALL THE TIME...and will likely be getting a second one (a larger one, handier for weighing roasts/larger meats/bowls of things) after we move.
Our little one is an Escali brand, and it works well. I think it was in the $15-$25 dollar range...the only negative to it is that it can be difficult to check the display if you use a plate or large bowl. Make sure the scale has a tare function (some do not, which baffles me)...
Several times a day. Simplifies things so much. One of the things I love it for is making tuna and sweetcorn. I put the bowl on the scale then zero it, add as much tuna as I need zero the scale again, add corn, then mayo. everything goes straight into the mixing bowl and it's so precise
I just ordered an EatSmart one. It does have a tare button. Hope it makes things easy. It also comes with a chart of caloric values so you can do the math and figure out count on various foods after it's weighed. It was $25 but I think it will be worth it. I'm a knitter so I can also use it to weigh my yarn to evenly divide my skeins when making socks.
I just got the EatSmart one on Monday. It does everything it's supposed to! The buttons are a little stiff so I hope they loosen up some with use, but other than that it's perfect. It doesn't take up much space and super easy to use. I haven't used measuring cups since it arrived.
