Default Oh no, snow's coming to Houston

I'm originally from Kentucky so snow isn't really a big deal to me. I don't like driving in it but it doesn't scare me. Drive carefully. Increase your following distance. Stay out of the left lane unless you're trying to pass someone. Slower traffic keep right.

But OMG it's going to be beserk here. The last time I remember it snowing here was maybe a year or two ago and this town went nuts. Some of that I blame on the news providers - they blow it all out of proportion. That time it was really just a light dusting and it was crazy.

Now they are predicting from 1-4 inches throughout the metro area and I bet it's going to be beyond CRAZY. I kid you not, on the way in to work I saw two of the trucks that spread the deicing solution on the roads and each of them had a police escort of 4+ cars .

Yesterday, they did rolling power blackouts without any advance notice to the public. We had no power at our district office so that staff went to the school campus and wasted half a day there before the boss told us to go home. Today we have power but the heat is on the blink again and it's below 32 degrees outside. SIGH.

Oh well everybody stay warm and if you're in the Houston area be careful on the roads. Careful of the snow, ice, and other drivers.

I know. I live in Galveston. Not only is it cold, but the wind is fierce! Most of the schools are closing early today & will be closed tomorrow. I keep hoping they call "snow day" soon in my office! I'm a native Texan & know I can't drive in ice &/or snow. And, I'm not crazy enough to try.

Luckily, at work we didn't have the rolling black-outs, but other parts of the city did.

I know the people used to dealing with this every year are laughing at me, but that's okay. I wear my wuss badge with pride when it comes to the cold!

I think Houston only has one snow plow.

What the heck, these people drive crazy even when it just sprinkles much less snow and ice. I'm glad to see them prepping the roads, last time it snowed there were people stuck on the overpass from 45 to the beltway all night. Hopefully most business will close tomorrow and spare their employees from driving in it.

I live in Dallas and haven't been to work or school in 3 days because of the ice.

I'm north of Dallas, close to the Oklahoma border. School hasn't been in since Monday, and they aren't going back til Feb. 7. We got 4 inches of snow and ice and it's been below 15 degrees for nearly five days...

I live in Houston too!

I agree that people here blow it out of proportion, but I do get nervous driving in that kind of weather...I've done it a couple of times and my stomach was in knots the whole time.

Yay for a day off tomorrow, though!

I was hearing on the news about how a tent set up at the Cotton Bowl for Super Bowl VIP events collapsed under the snow: I'm from Minneapolis and we just lost our domed stadium (which was once a Super Bowl site) when WE had our big snowstorm a couple of months ago! It may not be ready in time for the next Vikings season! ::evil glee:: Take THAT, Dallas! ::ducks & runs::

I'm in the Bryan area and we're supposed to be getting snow tonight. I am a native Texan, so this is just way too cold for me. I admire those of you who know how to handle this weather! I sure don't! Haha

It was just like a canopy tent. We aren't really equipped for this type of weather. I haven't been to work in a week and school has been canceled since Tuesday. The ground is covered in ice which is covered in at least 6 inches of snow. I took my dog out for a walk and slipped and fell flat on my back and hit my head on the ice. Not an awesome feeling. I can't wait til summer.

Yay - we survived. I can't say the hoopla was for nothing because the ice wasn't pretty but as usual it wasn't as bad as predicted. I felt sorry for the kiddos though - they were so looking forward to the snow.

There was a baby born in an ambulance on the highway in the early hours of Friday morning. I was disappointed his mom didn't name him Stormy (she named him after his dad).

I hope everyone came thru with no damages to person or property.

I've traveled to houston a few times for work... those overpasses of yours would be scary with ice on them.

I'd hate to see you guys try to drive in one of our winters
