Default Whats your favorite PCOS approved recipe?

It can be anything, a snack, breakfast, lunch or dinner. I havent come up with one just yet. Well actually I'm not sure if this will qualify but I got this off of Dr. Ian's 50 million pound challenge website. Its on the snack menu as a healthy snack.

1 Fat free cup of chocolate or vanilla pudding topped with 1 tbsp of whipped cream (can be regular).

I love it I dont have this as a snack everyday but at least 2 to 3 times a week.
If you're used to regular pudding (not fat free) its ok because the whip cream makes up for difference in taste.
Also I find that with the swiss miss brand the taste of the fat free chocolate pudding is actually not that far from the original, so its pretty good.

PCOS approved for some isn't approved for others - so the list may be hit and miss, but still great for suggestions!. I love Dr Ian, and I loved Phase 1 of the Fat Smash diet (but Phase 2 was vague in the book, and I lost my way. Should have stayed on a clear cut Phase 1 I guess!). But I'm insulin resistant, and it's not smart for me to have any sugar so pudding is usually out for me.

One of my favorite good carb recipes is Butternut Squash Lasagna. It may still be too carby for some of the PCOSers but if not - http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/entr...h-lasagna.html Yummah!

Sometimes blood sugar fluctuates because of the foods we are eating - the pudding cups have 17 grams of sugar, which is almost the same amount as a Hershey's chocolate bar. If your sugar is fluctuating, gradual rises will help also give you a gradual drop. It's the spikes that drop more quickly and keep you in that yo-yo of fluctuations.

Even worse, since you are insulin resistant, that glucose 'spike' means that your pancreas is working overtime making oodles of insulin because it can't sweep away that glucose effectively. And all that excess insulin makes weight loss slower and weight gain easier.

A 'perfect snack' would be an apple and a cheesestick. It may give you about the same grams of sugar, but they will be of a different sort - fructose (apple) versus sucrose (table sugar in pudding), plus you get protein from the cheese stick that will also help balance your sugar. Protein takes more time to digest than sugar, so it slows down the glucose response, which is a good thing.

However, with all that said, if you can lose weight and still eat sugar, more power to ya! But if you have difficulties, you might want to try and opt for something that is gentler on your glucose response. Another diet plan with balanced carbs and protein that you might like is Body for Life. It's all about balancing protein with carbs. I liked Body for Life for Women even better. Great book, with simple recipes. I learned a lot from both of the books.

I hope this helps! It stinks to be IR, but it gets easier as we go along.

I actually went to read the label of the pudding...its reduced calorie sugar free pudding that has 70 calories per cup....
link to see the product on Walmart: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Swiss-Miss...21-oz/10318333

As someone with PCOS (and thus a HUGE craving for all things carb), I find that I do best when I pair a carb with a food that is high in fiber or healthy fat (like a great pesto sauce that I make in my blender from basil and almonds). In this way, I can eat the pasta without going carb crazy and overeating.

Love and Peace,
