When I'm going to an event where I know there will be a lot of high calorie food, I do a couple of things. One, I eat a meal before I go so I won't be hungry and easily tempted. When there, I usually zero in on the healthy choices such as salads or vetgetables. Or, I take a small plate and add a one or two bite sample of the foods I really want the most. Then, after eating, I move away from the food area and focus on the socializing. (Move into another room if necessary). Don't feel "obligated" to eat a lot just because it is a celebration. Others will be glad to do that for you!... and you will be thanking yourself at your next weigh-in.
