Default Vanilla extract ?

Hello all,

I had a question, i had my gf get some vanilla extract from the store because I wanted to try these yummy recipes on here.

The brand she got was Krogers and I read in the ingredients that there is corn syrup in it. I'm not sure if that is allowed or not so I would like to know if it is ok to use this. Are there different kinds of vanilla extracts?

Thanks in advance for any info or comments

I just checked my vanilla extract, and mine doesn't contain corn syrup.
Corn syrup is not allowed on SBD, but I would imagine the amount you would use would be negligible. If it's convenient to buy a different brand without it, I'd do so, but otherwise I'd think it would be OK to use the brand you have.

How strange! Vanilla extract is supposed to be made with vanilla beans and alcohol. Is it the real stuff or the artificial? Maybe it's vanilla syrup.

I checked my kirkland brand from Costco. It does contain sugar! I never paid any attention. It seems there are many that don't contain the sugar, it just takes research. I'll just use this one up (which will take forever) then be more selective the next time around.

My Mom makes her own so I never worried about it before. Apparently Frontier does not have sugar in their extracts (I have a few) though I'm sure they are pricier than grocery store brands.

I have Trader Joe's and Watkins brands, and neither one has corn syrup or sugar. McCormick's brand is a safe one, too.

Just goes to prove - we have to check everything these days!
