My goal is going to be more moderate this month. 40 min of cardio, 4x a week -- which works out to 710 minutes.

Thanks for getting us started newleaf. I'm keeping the same goal as last month as I was so close. I'm hoping this will keep me motivated to continue running after the mothers day 5k.

Hope everyone's first week of May is getting off to a great start.
I made the most of the nice weather yesterday (plus it was my day off) so I walked everywhere I could. I ended up with 24,000+ steps on my pedometer and I got a 2.7m run in- but the best part was I had my fastest pace yet 11:30 min/mile!
I'll do an easy run on Friday in prep for my 5k on Sunday.

Have a great day & let's get moving!

Way to go on the steps and running Mel!! Hope you do well in your 5K!

My hip and neck are completely better so I am back in full force and have even bumped it up a touch. I was worried about taking it easy for a bit but I lost a couple more pounds lately so it must not have affected me much. I am getting closer and closer to goal. I can't believe it!! Never thought I could do it at my age and with my messed up thyroid!

Hope you all get out there and enjoy some movement today as you are able!

Swam 2000yds on Tuesday. I'm going to try for 10000 yds this month. I have to start hiking with my backpack to get ready for July, so I've decided to hit the hills on a 3.3 mile loop. I'll report back with a beginning time - if it's not raining, I'll do it tonight. If raining ... it will be at least Sunday because we're going up north for a guided mushroom hunt. mmmm, morels!

You go ICU!! You are doing great with swimming! I was eating mushrooms as I was reading this. They were only portabellas though. I absolutely love mushrooms which is funny because I never thought I liked them as a kid and wouldn't even try them. I would love to try morels sometime but my sister who hunts them every Spring never shares them with me!! I guess I will have to do my own hunt sometime. I know that is a rite of Spring up north here in Michigan.

Thanks newleaf!! I can't believe I am almost there. Then onto maintenance to try and figure that all out. I have been pretty active most of my life but have to make time for it. That is the hardest part for me is finding the time.

Happy Mother's Day all you wonderful women!
I just got back from my official first 5k race. I 'think' I enjoyed it & while waiting for the official times to be posted I hope I met my goal of finishing in under 40 minutes. I clocked it on my iPod as 37 min 18 sec.

There were >6,000 participants!

At the end of the race, they gave roses to all the moms along with all the other race goodies- water, fruit , yogurt etc. So now I'm looking for another 5k to run later this summer/fall.

Hope everyone has a great mother's day!

Ladies,
Mind if I join you on the exercise thread. I need a little accountability! I'm setting a goal of 10,000 steps a day. Today is the 10th so that leaves 21 days this month. 210,000 steps to go for me!

Congrats on the 5K Mel. That's a great accomplishment!
Newleaf, Hope your back is feeling better. Back injuries are the worst, they affect everything.
Beemer, You are getting so close! Keep it up!
ICU, I love swimming! Can't wait til the pool opens at the end of the month!

Happy Mother's Day!

This is going to sound severely lame but since I hate to exercise I am forcing myself to walk. I am on my feet all day at work, then when I come home I am making myself take an evening walk. I'm fine once I get started it's just forcing myself to start.

Jab,
It's not lame! Every little bit of exercise helps. Are you wearing a pedometer? You may be surprised to see how many steps you are taking in a day.
Keep it up!

jab- I agree with onmyway. Wearing a pedometer is a great source of inspiration. I am for 10,000 steps/day as a baseline and anything over is bonus. I have an omron hj-112 which calculates calories burned, aerobic steps & total mileage.
keep up the great work!
