Unhappy No appetite what so ever

I haven't had an appetite for a week and have to force myself to eat, my calories for this week are averaging 900 a day since Sunday. I have to go to the grocery store tomorrow and was thinking I should pick up some higher calorie food to get the numbers up. Any suggestions?

Stock up on low-volume, high-calorie foods. Healthy fats like avocados & peanut butter. Chicken leg quarters instead of breasts (cheaper, too!).

Nuts and dried fruit help me to keep the numbers high enough. Are you maybe just getting sick with something? I'm guessing (and it's only a guest) that a low calorie intake for a week won't hurt but it shouldn't continue.

If you're drinking skim milk, switch to 1%. If you eat 1% fat cottage cheese, switch to 2%. Maybe go for some part-skim ricotta.

Don't add refined-sugary products or high-fat products, but have more fresh fruits, a few nuts now and then (a danger food for me). Have a lowfat or lite salad dressing instead of a fat-free one. Choose well-balanced nutritional foods when possible over refined or processed foods.

Increase your portions by an ounce--for example, instead of 3 ounces of chicken breast, have 4 ounces. Same with tuna. More protein is a good thing!

You might be coming down with something.

Personally, I never understood eating when you're not hungry (counter-intuitive and isn't that what contributes to all the weight issues in this country?).

Unless you're a kid or pregnant, I wouldn't eat if not hungry.

Jade I agree with Diva, maybe you are coming down with something and I remember when I had a stomach virus I had no appetite at all and the thought of eating just made me sick. Just try and drink plenty of fluids and hopefully your appetite will come back soon.. Hope you feel better

If it lasts for much longer, I'd make an appointment with your Doctor, but it "could" be just the new found motivation you have to lose weight. I mean, look at you, you are doing super well, losing weight & eating better...It feels great doesn't it? I went through several periods like this where I just felt SOOOO good that I did not have the desire to eat. Like being high on life instead of sugar... If this IS the case, enjoy the ride, because if you are anything like me, it won't be long until you are back recalculating everything over and over so that you can get in every last one of your calories for the day!

Many people experience a loss of appetite when they have first begun their weight loss journey. If I was purposely looking to add calories I would choose avocado, olive oil, or raw almonds.

Jade

I have just noticed the EXACT same thing. Last week friday and saturday and I just NOT hungry which is very NOT normal for me. I wondered what was up.

Well, sure enough, I came down with a full-blown cold on Monday! It is finally almost gone now, but I have not had the urge or the hunger to eat at all this week. I still forced myself to eat my planned meals but I guess you are just not hungry when you can't taste the food.

I know the eating-when-not-hungry seems counterproductive but I am a firm personal believer in not eating below your BMR.

However, if you have the stomach flu and can't keep food down, well, that's a different story!!

I'm sure your appetite will come back once the cold is gone. But just try to keep eating as close to normal as you can.
