Hello everyone! Welcome to this week's discussion!
This is for anyone who wants to contribute. If you have something to say, large or small, share it with the rest of us! It benefits everyone.
Tonight's Discussion: Aren't you worth it?
Oh it's that "A" word, again. I can hear screams the likes of horror movies have never seen, and it's not even Halloween! "Activity". Yes, yes, exercise. Are you one of those people who say "I've got the Points/Foods under control... it's the exercise that I just don't wanna do." Then my dears, this topic is for you!
One of the key components of WW is moving more. Doing a little something extra each day that we wouldn't have considered before our lifestyle change. We've heard it before, haven't we?
What are some of the activities that you do now? Any activity. Even something as small as parking the car farther away from a store so we have to walk.
Do you think that having fun when you're being active helps keep you going?
Having fun not only makes us want to do activities, but keeps us going back to them, and actually relaxes us more than if we force ourselves onto the "dreadmill" every day. If we don't like a certain exercise, we don't feel good while doing it, we're less likely to do it again, and we're more likely to feel stressed if we have to force ourselves to do it more. Not a good combo.
What are things you used to do as a kid to have fun outdoors? Would you ever consider picking them up again to move more? They count!
We all know the benefits of exercise... listing them would be redundant. We all already know. But, do we realize that we're worth the time & energy it can take to make ourselves healthier? We are worth it! There's no reason to put it off any longer.
My favorite exercise was walking the treadmill, but due to foot problems, I can't use it anymore. I still haven't found anything that I like as well, but sporadically try to do strength and cardio. Your leader is right, though, I have to decide if I'm worth it to follow through on a regular basis.
I guess exercise could be thought of as a medicine. We need it for our bodies just as much as someone would need their meds for high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. We wouldn't dream of skipping those things for our bodies, so why would we skip exercise?
I remember when I was younger, and we'd go outside and "ride" our bikes in our drive way... (before we could actually ride, we were coasting, no training wheels ) and we'd get to this crack in our drive way, turn around and ride down the hill.
When I finally learned to ride my bike, it was a source of ultimate freedom. It meant that at 12 I could ride to my friend's houses. I could ride up to the store. I could ride around the neighborhood, and just have a great time without needing supervision. And it was FUN.
I wasn't on my bike because it worked my legs... or because it got my heart going... I was riding it, because I wanted to. And that meant that I was on it for a good portion each day every summer.
Now, I like treadmill walking/jogging when I've got a good show on, or good music. I like my work out videos that get me moving. They make my body feel great. But, are they ever something that I've done for pure fun? No! I've never thought "I'm bored... I'll just pop in this exercise video." Maybe I should, I'd be a buff babe But, I have thought "I'm bored... I'd like to take a leisurely walk/like to ride my bike around."
I admit that I haven't been a saint when it comes to exercising, but for those struggling I can tell you what I do when I'm in my groove.
I don't even entertain the thought that I won't exercise. When I've got my good thing going, it's just "prepare meals, work, exercise, dinner, stuff...etc." It's part of the day. There's no "Gee, do I feel like working out today?" It's "There it is on the list, getting it done now." Looking at it that way, as a normal part of the day, and not something questionable, keeps me going for longer.
When I was younger I used to love riding my bike and roller skating (roller blading once I was in high school). Now I'm working out on the treadmill, doing the Couch to 5k. It's not my favorite, I've never been a runner. I would love to do some of my old favorites but they don't really fit in my lifestyle right now. 3 young kids and a hubby in the military, so I usually don't have anyone else here to watch them.
I do enjoy hiking, though. Whenever we get the chance, DH and I load the kids up and head out to Mt. Rainier for a hike. That's one reason I'm looking forward to losing weight, I'll be in better shape for our family hikes.
Can I just say ping pong is an amazingly fun way to get a little movement in? If you have access to a table big enough, such as one of those folding tables typically found in church basements, you can play a game of ping-pong (if you don't care about regulations!). The apartment community I recently moved to has a small game room with a pool table and a ping-pong table. Spend 30 minutes playing ping-pong - especially if you and your partner are awful at it - and it's as good as doing squats the whole time as you continually bend to pick up the ball and chase it across the floor!
another good one like this is learning to juggle. My thighs HURT for days after I spent a weekend learning to juggle, having to squat to pick up the balls so often.
Unfortunately these two things become less effective as you get better, but if you are looking for some movement on a rainy day, pick up three similarly-sized objects and try teaching yourself to juggle. Workout and hours of amusement at once!

That's good to know, my 4 year old son just asked me to teach him to juggle! Of course, we'll both be learning together because I've never done it before.
Hi ladies,
I just started ww and this is my second week. I have yet to get to the exercise. Working on that one.
When I was younger my favorite things were roller skating, riding my bike, kickball and softball. You name it and I liked it. I would love to have that enthusiasm for exercise again.
I am very bad with any exercise program. I will start and do really good for about 3 weeks and then the excuses start and my exercise program ends. When I was a kid it was nothing to be out running around all day and riding bikes and all that but now it's all I can do to make myself get on the treadmill.
