Default Is this a realistic goal?

Please don't laugh (ok, maybe a little snicker) but I seriously want to set a mini-goal of being able to do a split.

Some factors to consider:
  • almost 30
  • joint/connective tissue disease
  • morbidly obese (now)
  • have NEVER been able to do a split in my life
  • bad knees

I know it seems like a lot of bad in that list but maybe those of you with more split-related experience can let me know if those issues will be huge factors. Obviously, a lot of weight will need to go in order for my joints/knees to support my body. Also, a lot of fitness/stretching will need to occur in order to not break the region around my girl parts.

This might seem silly, but I want to have all the girly things I've never had and right now... this is number 1 on my list.

Ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

PS, if you are interested, goal number 2 is to at least 3 cheerleading jumps. I know, I know... weird eh?

I don't see your goal as any more unrealistic as me being able to do a real push up or pull up. Go slow and listen to your body and I am sure you can do it.

I'm sure you'll be able to do it!
Maybe consulting a doctor would be a good idea, eh?

I think thats great and though I can't speak from a medical standpoint I believe you can and its a good idea if its something you really want. Its always something I've wanted to do too...I just never knew how to go about it.

I have an obese friend who is 45, can do the splits (always has been able to though) and is an amazing performer. It hurts her knees and she doesn't do it much anymore, but after a few shots of tequila, MAN, she's a riot!

Soulbliss, that's hilarious!
I think the split is obtainable. Make sure a friend is with you when you try, just in case.
This sounds similar to how I approach New Year's goals. I gave up trying to do realistic ones years ago. My goal this year is to learn how to make tamales, and learn how to curse in another language (I've mastered English, Spanish, and sign language curses, lol)
Good luck!

Ha, you literally made me laugh out loud with the make sure I have a friend "just in case" ... more true words were never spoken...

How about this... I'll make that my goal for my 30th bday in January... surely I can become a flexible monkey by then... maybe?

This is kind of an exciting goal... splits by 30!

thanks for the encouragement guys!

ps, your friend sounds like a lot of fun!
