Question Colonoscopy?? I have a problem!

I have had a problem with colon polyps since 2000. The Gastroenterologist is supposed to do a colonoscopy yearly and I just realized...I have to take the Golytly...4 liters of saline based laxative that has to be ingested 8oz at a time every 15 minutes until it's gone (if memory serves, it took me more then 2-3 hours last time).

I asked his nurse today, "What do I do?? My pouch is 4 oz at the most and that's very full." She didn't know what to say other then "Take it more often then every 15 minutes" and "Do your best just don't make yourself sick."

Funny but eating or drinking most anything in large amount makes me sick.

Oh and I can't take vitamins of any sort for 5 days before the 28th. Is that going to make me sick?

Anyone have any ideas?

Angela

Some docs will allow you to do your prep with pills rather than that nasty drink ... even tho I haven't had the surgery, I have had several colonoscopies, after the first one, I could not tolerate the drinking - it literally made me sick....so my doc actually gave me a choice of the drink or the pills! Talk to your doc, perhaps he will prescribe the pills for you.... good luck

How did you take the prep for the colonoscopy? Or is it still in the works?

the prep begins Wed. 28th...I was just worried that it would be impossible to get down or to keep down. We shall see!

I understand that if you don't take your vitamins, you feel run down and sick...I have to stop taking them on the 23rd. Wish me luck!

Arrow Hopefully this helps!

I don't know if this will help you, but, my mom had a colonoscopy about a month ago and she had a hard time drinking the stuff. Not because she had WLS, but because she just couldnt. What they did for her was gave her an enema. Not really pleasant of course, but another alternative. Hope that helps you!!

I have had to drink that nasty stuff, and it is nasty. I would suggest that if you live with family or SO , tell them to go to a movie until the coast is clear.
