Question How do you know if it's fat or just loose skin?

It's been interesting seeing my body change - seeing my breastbone, collar bones, and ribs (I knew they were buried in there somewhere). I have about 25 more pounds to lose.

While it's obvious that there's a lot of fat in my thighs (a real cellulite party), I was wondering if there's any way to distinguish between fat and excess skin (notably in the lower abdomen and the arm "bat wings.").

I've been doing cardio and weight training for a year, so I know that my heart and muscles are toned, but I was just wondering about the "flappy parts."

That's an interesting question, I wondered the same thing myself before. I imagine someone definitely has an answer

When I went from 350 to 185 (way back when ) My loose skin resembled a deflated balloon. When I would grab the flesh it would look puckered (for lack of a better word). I'm sure someone can provide a better explanation.

There is some fat in the excess skin with most people (not all, super-fit Meg didn't have that problem as I recall). I had some flab along with my extra skin and that was excised out along with the skin. There is still permanent skin laxity on my body so any flab that I have isn't held in as well as someone who was never overweight.

Well, I was heavy and now I am thin and I still have excess weight on my belly. There might be a little fat in there, but I know it is mostly excess skin because it LOOKS different. It is loose (when I was heavy, the skin was curved and felt "full") and it puckers when I lean over (my overweight belly never did that). When I lay on my side, the skin drags down like a melted candle (gross, but my fat stomach never did that). Definitely loose skin!
