Unhappy Struggling to get through the day

Hey all... I'm kind of an erratic 3Fcer... I'll post loyally for a few months and then I'll disappear for a while. Anyway, I'm back for now because I'm really struggling to keep it together.

I'm bipolar, and have been taking Lamictal for a while now. It was certainly better than nothing, but it wasn't as good as it could be. My doctor decided to put me on Prozac as well, and he eventually plans to take me off the Lamictal altogether and substitute Lithium or Depacot (sp?) in addition to the Prozac (because I am now on birth control and Lamictal can interfere with the contraceptive).

So right now, I am at the stage where I am still on Lamictal and am taking Prozac as well. I had just started losing weight again (I hit my goal about a year and a half ago, a loss of about 60 pounds, and since then have gained back 25 or 30 of em), but now I can't stop eating... I have to just to get through the work day because the Prozac makes me SO tired. I work 9-10 hours every day, and there is no way I can make it through without Cinnabon or some other fatty, sugary food to comfort me and keep me awake. And the weight gain is making me even more miserable.

Grrr... for anyone who has been on Prozac, how long did this exhaustion last? I've only been on it about a week. I just want my life back, I'm too tired to even have fun.

I've never been on Prosac but I've been on 5 or 6 other depression/anxiety type meds. For the most part side effects such as nausea, sleepiness, etc. last 2 or 3 weeks but some - hunger being one - can last the whole time you're on it. I've really tried to overcome the hunger by eating good foods before I get so hungry I eat anything, but, as you can see by my weight that doesn't always work. I do find that when I'm having a more 'up' day - which are few and far between- I can manage my eating much better.

Good luck in whatever you do - it's a long hard road and we all have to support each other.

Hi McCrew!

My past experience on Prozac sounds about the same as yours - I was so fuzzy and tired, the doctor did eventually take me off it altogether Not to say you won't feel better within a couple of weeks - I hope you do!
