Default So Frustrating...

I had to up my calories/carbs because I was having milk supply issues. Those are corrected now, but I am not losing a single pound. I am eating about 300 calories a day more than I was eating when I was losing weight (and milk) so it's not like a huge difference; not like I can just split the difference. I don't know what to do.

Part of me is done with breastfeeding anyway and I know that a healthy, happy momma is the most important thing.

My weight is really at a dangerous level. I was watching old episodes of The Biggest Loser yesterday and realized that I'm as fat as most of the women on that show.

I am thinking of going back to strict phase 1 and whatever milk I make, fine.

I guess I'm just rambling. I'm just frustrated. It's like my body has a preservation mode and will not lose weight while making milk at the same time, no matter how much (or little) I eat or how much I exercise.

Ya know it took a long time to put that weight on, give it some time to come off.

are you drinking enough water?
are you getting any exercise.

DO not give up.

I'm biased but I think that nurturing a baby through breastfeeding is the best thing a mother can do (if she's able). I'd hang on to that for as long as I can.

I'm very frustrated by how slow my loss is on SBD... but life is so pleasant this way it's worth the wait. don't look day to day.. maybe look at month to month instead?

look at your energy
look at how you feel
look at your outlook
stay away from the scale.

Have you spoke to your Dr about this. Maybe he/she has some ideas. I know it is hard but I know that at time the scale is slow for me as well but my clothes are fitting better, I you taken your measurments. How long have you been breast feeding. My oldest dd was 6 mos and my youngest was 9 she did not want to give it up. I lost weight with my second bf but not my first. Keep up the good work.

I agree with Nessa. Back when I was strictly doing South Beach without cheating, I would sometimes plateau for weeks and then I would start dropping again. It just takes time. For me I think the keys were exercise, water and lots of vegetables.

I really enjoyed nursing my son (I hated pumping at work so he'd have bottes for day care) and I kept it up as long as he wanted to nurse. My son still loves to cuddle and be close to his mom and I'm glad I kept it up as long as I could. It does have to be your decision though but why don't you try to give it a little more time. Phase 2 loss is slower and there will be times you don't lose.

I breastfed 3 children. I didn't find it that difficult to lose weight the first 2 times but the 3rd was a struggle. Is this the first child you are breastfeeding? Maybe a restricted diet is not the way to go. I mean that breastfeeding burns upwards of 300 calories a day and on average at least 500 calories. Which is why they do not recommend eating less than 1500 calories a day. If you are exercising, restricting your diet and breastfeeding chances are you probably aren't getting more than a 1000 calories a day. Which will cause your body to not lose weight. I wouldn't recommend continuing to breast feed on phase one because whatever milk you produce could have toxins in it from the fat stored in your body. I think that you should consult a breast feeding specialist or nutritionist. They can set a plan up for you that will allow you to lose weight and do what's best for you and your baby. You can also check out some sites like the la leche league they offer a lot of information on weight loss and breastfeeding.

She is my third breastfed child. I have never been able to lose much weight while nursing. My babies would thrive in a famine because no matter how little mommy eats, my body hangs on to fat so they have lots of milk.

I'm not at all emotionally attached to breastfeeding. I do it only for the antibodies for my daughter, no other reason. Both of my other children were breastfed for a time, and formula fed for a time, and they are both very loving, attached, happy kids. So, I don't mind to give it up, but I want to make a gradual thing.

Hmmmmph. It's so hard to decide what to do, and stick to it. Where I live, there is so much judgment and condescension directed at moms who formula feed (crunchy granola college town) so there's even more stress there... what will people think of me, etc.

I decided I will give her some breast milk until she is on solids, which will be sometime between 4 and 6 months. She's 11 weeks old now and gets about 12-15oz a day.
