Met my 50 pound goal!
Five years ago I went on a medication that made me so hungry all the time that I gained 50 lbs. Before then I was never overweight. Sometimes my weight would creep up and then I'd work at losing the 5-10 pounds. But it was never a problem.
Then in December of 2005, the medicine stopped working and my doctor switched me to a new one. Overnight, the hunger pains stopped, my appetite dropped to below normal, and I started craving vegetables. All I wanted to eat were salads. So I did and the weight just fell off.
After 30 lbs down, I started to really care about the nutrition I was getting and started to focus on eating as healthy as I could. I watched whole foods cooking shows and bought a vegetarian cookbook though I still eat meat, poultry, and chicken, just less frequently. For the first time, I was really thinking about my meals and making sure I got enough whole grains, fiber, vitamins, and minerals.
My taste buds also changed on the new medicine. I no longer craved carbs and sweets. This was strange having been a life long chocoholic. Sweets actually taste too sweet to eat now. It’s a wonderful problem to have.
In late February, I learned of 3FC and joined the Featherweight forum because I was within a few pounds of my final goal. I have found it to be a wonderfully supportive group and I like the accountability of logging in each day and posting that I’ve kept up with my commitment to exercise every day.
Now, I’m also participating in the Maintainers forum and learning how to keep the weight from returning from some amazing people.
