Default Signature rules?

Are there any specific signature rules as far as length of your sig?

Lately I've been noticing that sigs are getting longer and longer and longer ... some with 3 or 4 tickers, plus multiple lines of text.

Today twice I was in threads where someone's sig was nearly 8x as long as their 2 line post. (2 separate people)

It's kinda frustrating to have to scroll through a page of dancing carrots (as cute as they may be) in order to read "Oh, me too!!"

Oh, I'm hearing you! Mine is bad enough, but some are really annoying.

Oddly enough, there is a paragraph you have to scroll through in order to make a signature:

Quote:
Signature Rules:

* You may use one or two weight tracker images. You may only use those from 3FC, Ticker Factory, and Ticker Central. All others may be deleted to comply with our link policy.
* Please be considerate and keep signatures short or moderate in size.
* Check length of signature using to the color guide bar next to the signature preview box. Green is good, yellow is Ok, but if it's in the red, you may annoy your friends
* Choosing to use all text instead of images will let you share more information. Using multiple images can be distracting.
* We reserve the right to edit signatures that are too long by removing images and text as necessary.
* You may include links to your personal weight loss blog if you have one. Any other links may be removed to comply with our link policy.
Mine is yellow, so I hate to imagine how red some of them are. But you never know, maybe your thread will lead to some "editing of signatures". Here's hoping!

I too find some of them obnoxious but I'd say if they bother you that much just disable them in your userCP.

When you Edit Signature they even give you a Preview window that has a guide to show you if it's getting too long. On the positive side, I do think it's great that so many are enthusiastic about their goals and posting them for all to see!

The problem with disabling them is that it is all or nothing.

I do like seeing people's progress, but the dancing fairies/twinkly lights are too much. If everyone followed the guidelines, it wouldn't be a problem!

Exactly. I like seeing people's progress and a lot of people put "see ticker" in their side column info. Also a lot of people put cute, or fun, or interesting quotes in their sigs, which I enjoy reading. So if I turn off the sigs, then I don't see ANYTHING.

But I'll be honest, the dancing, flashing, twinkling, 6" sigs - they make my eyes hurt and make me not want to read that person's posts. I'd almost sooner just block that person and continue reading everyone else's posts.

I believe the software that the board runs on has a way to limit signatures so anything longer than a certain number of characters just doesn't show. I wonder if that could be implemented to help with the problem?

Just puzzled by your mention that your signature is yellow, I don't see yellow in your signature.

Bargoo - in the signature area of your CP there's a little guide that helps you see how long your signature is. Here's a screenshot of mine - if I were to put my ticker on there twice, see how it goes from green to yellow on the left?

If it gets longer, there's also a red section.

mine is yellow, and I find myself feeling some remorse over that when I look at it.. I tried to get the two tickers to show up side by side, but that didn't work... I may take off the weight one, since I reached goal...

Eh ... I don't really mind the yellow ones. Gosh now I feel like a curmudgeon!

It's mostly the ones that require me to scroll through a whole screen that are annoying. And I have a BIG monitor, so you gotta know some of those suckers are long.

Yeah, some of them are really long... I've noticed that myself - I have a smallish monitor so I often get annoyed at my own!

We frequently edit signatures and welcome PMs when you see one that is going too far and we missed it. It's amazing how long some can go!

Ohhh, good thread. I check 3FC from my iphone during my lectures and it takes forever to load the super long ones, but I like them too much to disable them.
