May chat

Evening all.

I haven't been around much as I have been sick with a bead chestcold. I did feel well enough to go see Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy though :) I really enjoyed it. Loved the books and tv series so it was nice to see a movie finally made.

ellis 05-03-2005 02:40 AM

Mauvais, we're right on track together. I've caught your cold, and I'm reading the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

mauvaisroux 05-03-2005 09:14 AM

squeaker 05-03-2005 09:42 AM

 You two are silly!
I hope you both feel better soon.

Not much going on here, really. Only 52 days until my vacation! :) Other then that just puttering around at work, and trying to relax at home. Nothing exciting. :p

ellis 05-03-2005 09:46 AM

Squeak, where the hoodle doo have you been, darlin'? :grouphug:
Do you think we can get Den back in here? ;)

squeaker 05-03-2005 01:16 PM

"hoodle doo" I like that.

I have been around, but nothing much to say. :) My days are pretty much putter around work, enjoying the quiet. Then head home to watch tv, movie or read a book. Throw in a phone call or IM session with the boy. Go to sleep. Repeat. On weekends it is putter around the house instead of work.

I would love to get Den back in here!!! Neither of our butts tend to stick in here very long lately. :p

mauvaisroux 05-07-2005 06:45 PM

Had a lovely day today :) I caught up on some housework and then went and enjoyed the sun by taking a walk down to Little Italy for some lunch and some gelato :sunny:

I also came across a lovely little used book store and bought a new book and stayed to chat with the owner and his friend. Nice people, nice shop, definetely going to pop in their again. :D

Hope you all had a great Saturday :D

ellis 05-08-2005 07:44 AM

Squeak, your life sounds like a DREAM to me! Someday you'll be married with kids (or something similar), and you'll look back on these days and think, "Geez! I had it GOOD!"

Mauvais, where's the bookstore?
I have some perennials in little pots for you whenever you want them...

tikanique 05-08-2005 12:11 PM

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all the mothers, aunts, mothers to be, grandmas and anyone else who loves and cares for a child, even if it didn't come out your body. Remember the African proverb - It takes a village to raise a child!

Tiki

ellis 05-08-2005 01:16 PM

Tiki, Happy Mother's Day to you, too! :grouphug: And to all of the other gals here. :)

I love that proverb... it's so very true.

squeaker 05-08-2005 02:48 PM

Happy Mother's Day to all the chicks! :balloons:

mauvaisroux 05-08-2005 04:30 PM

Happy mothers's day to all of the mumchicks here! :D

ellis - Well, I could pop over tomorrow night after work if that is okay by you...thanks for the plants, you are just too good to me :)

ellis 05-08-2005 05:37 PM

Why don't you let me know when you're home, and I'll wheel my little wagon around the corner. :D

ggbun 05-08-2005 06:16 PM

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms.

New mantra: never go to mom's house hungry, never go to mom's house hungry. I should know better. I don't think I was too bad, though I was in at the cheese, starving waiting for my very late sister to show.

It was a beautiful day, outside in my parent's yard watching my kids & the nieces playing. I hope everyone got out to enjoy!

ellis 05-09-2005 07:07 AM

You have a late sister, too, ggbun? Mine always rolls in at the last minute and makes a grand entrance. I love her very much, but...

tikanique 05-09-2005 09:09 AM

I have a late brother. If dinner is at 3, I get there at 2 to help set up, DB 1 gets there with his family around 3:30, DB2 gets there around 4:00 and then the LATE one gets there around 8PM, as we are finishing up cleaning and putting everything away. I love him but he drives me bananas.

Tiki.

mauvaisroux 05-09-2005 09:58 AM

Thanks ellis - I will call you when I get home from work tonight :)

BTW- the bookstore I went to on Saturday is called Dragantail, it is on Somerset just down the block from the cheapie clothing store we love :)

I noticed a huge sign up the street advertising condos for sale (to be built) looks like the street may be in for a little revitalization. Also some contractors were out front of the buildings across the street from my place looking at blueprints the other week and Angelo, (the neighbour who is returning) said he hopes to start work on his place this month..

and they are going to knock down the empty restaurant on booth (just up the street from the mob front cafe ;) ) and put up a small apartment building there. Looks like there will be some new blood in the old hood!

My mum and I are on the verge of going across the street and picking up all the garbage that the tenants left behind after the fire. It is an eyesore and has been sitting there since November and since the owner of the house has sold it to a developer they won't do anything about it  The place next to it that also burned has some tulips growing in the front yard, how sad yet symbolic of regrowth and renewal.

tikanique 05-10-2005 09:03 AM

If I don't cut my grass, I am sure my neighbors will be posting comments about my lawn real SOON! That is definitely on the Wednesday agenda. Today is cheer practice and then I have GOT to get to Target's for dishwashing liquid and tank tops. The shoulders and arms are looking pretty decent so I plan to grab a few to wear at practice. Gotta get my tan on!

squeaker 05-10-2005 01:22 PM

Playing hooky from work again today. I went in for a few hours, but my head is killing me. What are the chances you can have your sinuses removed? What are they for anyway. Nice thing is I am sick, but not *that* sick, so I can at least get stuff done around the house.

mauvaisroux 05-10-2005 03:59 PM

Hope you are feeling better soon Squeak! :)

ellis 05-10-2005 05:21 PM

Oh, Squeak! :( Get better soon, sweetie. :grouphug:

Goddess Jessica 05-10-2005 09:07 PM

Hmmm i think I am the late sister. Darn me!

Squeak, I had a friend who had his sinuses removed. It was an emergency. Apparently did it in the ER, hooked him up to a machine like a big ol' vacuum cleaner and it sucked them out. He said it was the most painful experience of his life and now, he's sick all the time.

I think I was to be an book editor. Work at a publishing house. My professor says it's cut throat but it sounds like such a fun job.

tikanique 05-10-2005 11:31 PM

I am an unofficial editor. My boss writes murder mysteries and I read and edit them. He writes pretty good, the stories are good and I get to fuss and yell at him for making mistakes without fear of losing my job. What could be better? Oh yeah, I guess he could PAY ME for the editing!

Tiki

ellis 05-11-2005 07:48 AM

What a hoot, Tiki! Yeah, you definitely deserve a raise for THAT!

The second part of my sommelier program started yesterday. Would you like to see what my desk looked like when I walked in after break?

ellis 05-12-2005 09:44 AM

:lol3: Wow, ggbun... looks wonderful!

mauvaisroux 05-16-2005 09:38 AM

Wow! Good luck with your program :lucky:

This weekend I managed to get most of the front yard cleaned up, flowers planted and hanging baskets made up. This week I will have to tackle the stuff growing around the tree and trimming broken branches.

The next job is to paint the trim on the front porch and above the doorway and then painting the front door and fixing the mesh on the screen door. Jinkies there's a lot of stuff to do to prep the house for summer :faint:

We also went out to dinner on Sunday. We went to a great Italian restaurant and had a wonderful meal including some amazing Tiramisu for dessert! :T Then the owner sent us some Limoncella liquors for free since we were celebrating our wedding anniversary

Tani 05-16-2005 10:02 AM

I didn't get anything done on the yard this weekend. We had a few breaks in the weather, but we were just too busy. Sunday we had Mother's Day observed for my mom (She was out of town on the actual Mother's Day) We went out for high tea at a new tea shop in town. It was soooo fabulous. It's been a couple years since we did that, and Mom had a great time.

I even managed to keep diet damage to a minimum; After the tea sandwiches, my sister and I split a scone, and had a treat and a half of the final course of intricate miniature desserts (instead of the 4 per person set out) We packed the extra's home with Mom. :) Then we took the whole family on a 3 mile hike.

ggbun 05-16-2005 10:24 AM

Congratulations on your anniversary, Mauvais!

J & I rode out to the 'burbs this weekend to visit friends. (10 miles/16 k each way)! I felt very tuff riding my bike with traffic whizzing by at 80k/hr. I like city riding better, really. It was the longest ride I'd been on since I got pregnant (and therefore stopped training to ride across Canada!). My legs were a little spaghetti-y when I got home, but better almost instantly. I don't hurt at all today. It's amazing, I remember it took so long for me to get into shape the first time, it seems to come back a lot easier. It's been over two years.

I only lost a pound this week, but I had discovered that the toddler appeared to have been playing with the bathroom scale, which may or may not have happened before I weighed in last, so maybe I didn't lose 6 pounds last week after all. Oh well, I definitely weigh 7 lbs less than I did at the beginning of the month - and that's what counts. Another half a pound & I'm 10% done!

Have a great week everyone!

tikanique 05-16-2005 10:27 AM

Good job at tea. Wish I could say I did as well at lunch on Saturday. I didn't order any mixed drinks, but did order a high fat entree. I felt bad because when I ordered it, I thought it was one thing, but when they brought it out, heck it was fried, not grilled. I ate it anyway and then skipped the rest of my meals for the evening (except the one margarita).

My husband's band played its first gig last night. They were so amazing. Everything just fell into place & they played better than I've ever heard them by a huge margin. It was great. I got to be a rock star's girlfriend for the evening & I got to be a band manager - even arguing with the event co-ordinator who kept bumping them later into the evening because so many (drinking) people showed up to see them. I don't really blame him, the place could have cleared out after they played, but it upset my band, so I was ON him. Anyway, the glowing rush of fame-by-proxy, I tell ya, there's nothing like it! Yet another teenage fantasy to tick off the list.

mauvaisroux 05-17-2005 01:59 PM

ggbun - I know what you mean. My DH is in a band and I have spent several years, going to his shows, toting gear and floggin cd's/band merchandise. It is fun, isn't it :)

tikanique 05-17-2005 02:31 PM

i had a teen-agerish night yesterday myself. It consisted of sitting up REALLY late watching TV and eating bowl after bowl of Peanut Butter Crunch cereal. I was so wired I was still up at 4AM.

Of course I am paying for it today.

As for the band stuff, I dated a guy in a band and went to one of his gigs. It was fun to sit back stage and watch him up there playing and doing his thing. He was such a talented man musically.

Hi all, I'm new to this forum. I've been hanging out in the ED forum and a few gals mentioned that they came here so I decided to check it out. How awesome! I'm loving the recipes (espically vegetarian ones), and the openess. I look forward to stopping in whenever I can. I'm going to continue snooping around now and maybe post a few replys. Hope that you all have a great day!

Goddess Jessica 05-18-2005 07:03 PM

Hi chicas,

Normally, May is my favoritest month. It's my birthday month and I proclaim it everyday from May 1st. This year it's not been so grand. Everything has been falling apart. I started have heart palpatations due to stress, blah blah blah. Well, yesterday the Cute Boyfriend's company lost two contracts they thought they had with the government and laid off a bunch of people. He was one of them. Agh! I know he's a talented geek that will find a new job but ARG!

mauvaisroux 05-19-2005 09:29 AM

Welcome Steph!

Jessica - sorry to hear about your BF's layoff :grouphug:

ggbun 05-19-2005 09:33 AM

oh jessica - stinky. perhaps it will give c.b. more time to plan a perfect bday for you? :) maybe you should treat yourself to something relaxing, like a massage, or something else you're maybe interested in, a reiki session, accupuncture, a pedicure or a facial. and have a super happy birthday anyway!

the fam has decided to go camping this weekend. (it's a long weekend here, for you one or two non-cdns) we're not going far - basically loading the bikes & trailer into a suburban commuter train and heading to a campground at the edge of the city. it's a tester to see how the toddler makes out. or, i should say, whether mom & dad can survive the toddler loose in the great outdoors. :dizzy: i'll have to look up and see how many calories in a marshmallow :nono:

ggbun 05-19-2005 09:35 AM

oh hi steph & welcome! i didn't see your post there at first.

ggbun 05-19-2005 09:39 AM

only 23 calories in a marshmallow. i am weeping with joy.

squeaker 05-19-2005 09:58 AM

Quick fly by as I actually have 2 minutes! Sorry for disappearing again! :p

Jessica - I hope you feel better, and wish C.B. luck with job hunting!
