BLAST FROM THE PAST - Do You Remember?
Once in a while things will pop up in my head from my child hood or in my 20's and I'll just laugh. Just thought this would be fun to post things from the past.
Do you remember.......... GLASS Click Clacks ??? I had a pair of these when I was about 13 years old, we would bring them to school and walk thru the halls with these dangerous toys. They were so much fun, we didn't mind the bruises OR the risk of them shattering and breaking in your face. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING !!!! LOL |
Oh, yeah! I remember those, Leenie!
And what was that thingy called... it was like a piece of skipping rope with a hoop for one foot, and a bell-like thing on the end. You'd swing your foot round in circles... |
Skip-It. I still have one. hahahahaha. Can also kick my daughter's butt doing it.
Tiki. |
oh this is fun. I was just remembering the cool toy I used to get in my Easter basket as a kid...
It was this little bird shaped plastic whistle and you would fill it up with water and when you blew into it it would tweet like a little bird. Anybody else remember this? My hubby thought I was insane. :) I also had one of those little metal clicker toys that would drive my folks crazy. They got taken away rather quickly though. *L* |
OOohhh neat topic!! :hyper:
Any of you remember the game "Cats Eye"? You had to make your cat out of the right colored marbles then search for the black marble for the eye? I loved that game!! heh I still have it too, glass marbles and all. :smug: |
Hey- I had click clacks too! :D
I loved the games Kerplunk, Trouble and Buckaroo. |
I think they were called "Clackers" in UK. Except the Head master at my school who banned them called the "Knockers" which had the whole school in fits as slang for breasts - in UK anyway. Yeah we had the hoop thing too. Oooh which remind me - anyone remember hula hoops? I still see these form tiem to time - supposed to be good for the waist.
I remember kerplunk et al too. In the 80's it became quite the thing to play all those old games in clubs - such as kerplunk, buckeroo and operation |
Oh, how about Mancala? I STILL love that game. Taught DD to play it and she kicks my butt almost everytime.
Tiki. |
I used to play Kerplunk all the time as a little kid, cause it was a game you could play by yourself. *L* My parents hated games. I used to play Cooties when I was little too. I loved that game.
|
I loved Bogle...the noise of shaking the cubes with letters. As for hula hoops I won dinner from a radio staion for beating not only adults but kids doing the hula hoop. Plus won more for the tie for the game Twister. Man those were fun. I remember the clackers, my parents wouldn't let us have them due to the breaking part.
|
Allright...I confess... one of my old favorites is Monopoly. :D
|
Noodles, i love a good game of monopoly. or life, or clue. but my all time fav is still candy land. :)
|
Lizz - I used to get those birds too... my grandma used to give them to me... I'm so glad to see that someone else remembers them... Use can make the same noise that the clickers made, by clicking a bottle cap such as snapple.
I also loved Clue and Candyland... I never could hula hoop though... Anyone remember Pogo Balls? Or playing "Cat's Cradle"? |
I always got the birdie whistle from my grandmother too. That's funny. I never have seen them in the store though, I wonder where she got them. Probably from Harriett Carter catalog or something. :) Gotta love those crap catalogs you start getting when you hit 40. I steal them from my folks all the time. :)
I still do use the bottle caps as a clicker, but my husband usually get's sick of it quickly and I get it taken away again. *LOL* I'm such a pain. Speaking of husbands and pain... Mine is not allowed to play clue. or most board games. because he regresses into some spoiled child that has tantrums and gets upset if he doesn't win. he actually made his teenage sister cry a couple years ago when we were playing clue. It's hilarious, but at the same time, nobody will play with him. hehehe. I know I'm not the only one with a hubby like that... i've seen them but I never knew i had one. *LOL* |
How about romper stompers (like the ones from romper room).
http://www.angelfire.com/retro/80sfu...erstompers.jpg My favorite candy way back when was those little wax bottles filled with juice and bottle caps, cola was my favorite. And those funny wax lips. |
Popeye cigarettes! They are still around but they are called candy sticks now
|
Yes, my grandparents always got me those little candy ciggies. They stopped making them where i lived because they were bad for some reason - can't figure out why- and i remember my grandmother being all pissed off about it. But she was pissed off a lot. *L*
When I was little I was just a tiny little thing and they used to put their empty ciggie boxes on my feet as little shoes and I just loved it. People would freak out now I think if they saw someone do that. Or even if they were smoking inside with their kids around. I seem to remember a time when it was okay to drive down the road with a beer in your hand too... Some changes are a good thing, huh? :) I remember my dad having the game risk but I also distinctly remember that if i ever touched it I would not live to see adulthood. *LOL* for the girls I remember the huge important things to have were My Little Pony, Pound Puppy and of course Cabbage Patch. And Generic versions of either of them would not do! :) |

I also have a giant box of MLPs too...some still mint in package along with their outfits, MIP. Those will be sold too. I finally grew up some enough to let go of my ponies, but I did keep the one named "Noodles." :D |
what about Strawberry Shortcake? :)
|
Strawberry Shortcake is on the market and going strong, it came back about a year or two ago. I remember the blueberry girl, or was that boy? who was that boy?
I had a whole dinner set w/strawberry shortcake on it.........threw em out :( |
What about these?
Ahh Strawberry Shortcake... I have a pair of Strawberry Shortcake socks...now...
How about Rainbow Brite? The Smurfs? The Snorkels? And one that no one ever seems to remember: The Noozles? |
Btw
I forgot to mention Blueberry Muffin was a girl and the boy's name was Huckleberry Pie...
Check this out: Strawberry Shortcake |
Oh yeah my favorite was the Apple Dumplin, how cute.
How about HR Puff-n-stuff, sigmond & the sea monster, the croft shows ROFL !! Do you remember The New Zoo Review? w/freddy the frog and henietta the hippo |
Jeo: Did you mean the Wuzzles? The one on Disney that there were two animals mixed together like Bumblebear and Rynokey? I remember it! I loved my strawberry shortcake, I had the doll that was supposed to blow strawberry smelling kisses and a telephone that you could dial and talk to different characters. I wonder what happened to those toys...
I have a good smurf story. I loved the smurfs when I was a kid, but my mom was not as much keen on them. Not like the rumors of them being satanic or anything, she just thought they were annoying as ****. So when I was about 7 or 8 she told me that there was new law that you had to be under 6 years old to watch them or they would arrest you. I totally believed her and never watched it again. Evil mom. hehehe. I laugh now, but... :) Another one I used to get up super early for was the little prince. It was on waaay early in the morning on nickelodeon before they were very popular. It was on before Mr. Wizard another show I loved. It's weird things you didn't know you remembered until you start thinking back on it. This is a fun thread. |
Nope I totally meant "Noozles"... It was this show where the little girl noozled(rubbed noses) with her stuff koala and it came to life.... No one ever remembers it... I think my little sister and I may have been the only two on earth who watched it! :lol3: Here's the link to that one: The Noozles
I absolutely LOVED "Punky Brewster"... I would watch it every time it came on every night, even if I'd seen the episode before :^: "Maybe the world is blind...or just a little unkind, Don't know, Seems you can't be sure, about anything anymore, Although, You may be lonely and then, One day you're smiling again, Every time I turn around, I see the girl who turns my world around... standing there, Every time I turn around, Her spirits lifting me right off the ground, What's gonna be? Guess we'll just wait...and See! *woof*" (yes I am a loser and I have the mp3 ) I was also big into Full House.... Bob Saget will FOREVER be no more than the Danny Tanner! HA! |
Remember...
Shazam and Almighty Isis? The Bay City Rollers Bastad Clogs Black Jack Gum Ohhh how I loved my mood ring... :^: |
Wow, the only one of those I remember is mood rings.... :dizzy:
|
Hey I liked Full House too!! & Growing Pains. My all-time favorite though was Little House On The Prairie. I watched it religiously.
|
Jenn, your "noozles" reminds me of Emit Otters Jugband Christmas. Nobody has ever heard of it but it came on every year with all the charlie brown christmas specials and stuff.
|
Loved "Clickety Clacks" Also could not get enough of the game of life. Did any of you guys have a "laughing bag". Amazing how that thing worked.
|
What about ponchos and North Star running shoes. :D
Oh, and Earth Shoes. Donna, what's a laughing bag? |
I had a poncho with Smurfette on it... I was 7:) I also had strawberry shortcake sheets, 7 CPK and a few Care Bears.... I also loved jumping rope and hop-scotch and skip it and even hula hoops and blowing bubbles and taking my bike out just for fun.... I hope kids still do the latter stuff.
|
The laughing bag was this small box with a recording of this guy repeatedly laughing and it was in a sack and when someone picked it up it would go off and everyone within earshot couldn' t help but laugh. It really worked.
I wasn't much for dolls, but had this one called Chatty Cathy and you put a record in her side and then pulled the string to make here talk. One of my favorites was Incredible Edibles. You put this gel of all different colors into these metal molds and into a small oven(heated with a light bulb, much like the easy bake oven) and it made bugs that you could eat. I wasn't into the easy bake cupcakes and such. I thought the bugs and caterpillars were cool. I also had batman roller scates with glow in the dark bat wings. They were really cool. |
Lite Brite! I always wanted one as a kid, so I got one for MY kids! :)
And Holly Hobby dolls. Lizzie, my DH always beats me at board games, and it makes me want to kill him. Does anyone remember those tiny dolls with "real" hair that were in a clear plastic bubble and hung on a string around your neck? They had different smells like strawberry, etc. Jenn, the music on that Strawberry Shortcake site FREAKED ME OUT! Cool site. Leenie, I remember those disgusting wax lips. :D And that candy... I'd forgotten all about it! Cola was my favourite, too. The Popeye cigarettes no longer having the glowing red end. I still smoke them on occasion. :D |

Oh my gosh! Yes, Noodles! Thanks!! I'm going to check out some sites...
|
Believe it or not I had a little kiddle. It was in a heart shape bubble and smelled like a rose. Never bothered much with it. Like I said, I wasn't into the girly stuff, but my mom was always trying.
I had a great collection of those little troll dolls with the different color hair. different sizes and for different occasions. Birthday troll, graduation troll, pencil toppers etc.... Also liked the GI Joe with the celophane parachute that you thru up in the air. Oh my God, I was such a tomboy. And there was this stuff called Turkish Taffy. Vanilla, strawberry, banana & chocolate. You could crack it or let it get soft. Came the size of a hershey bar. Always got them for the movies because it lasted a long time. |
Emit Otter! I haven't heard him mentioned in YEARS!
I also loved Lite Brite and I had the Barbie Party Bake Oven that was just like the Easy bake oven... I wasn't much of a tomboy, but I had a My Buddy Doll...The boy not the girl...remember them? They were bigger than CBK and the commercial went "My buddy...my buddy... My buddy and me!"... The most tomboyish thing I had was my Tonka Truck which they still make, but does anyone remember the real Tonka Trucks? My was a dump truck that I played with in the sand box and it was made of metal, not plastic like the ones they sell now, and it was bigger too... |
Holly Hobby dolls yes I remember them. Ponchos -don't remind me! Mum knitted me a multicolour one in the roughest nylony wool you coud hopoe to find. I reckon garden twine was softer than that! Cruelty to kids! We also had Sindy and Tressie Dolls in UK which were smallet titted version of Barbie. Tresie had a key you put in her back and her hair became longer or shorter. I don't remember what she wore but my Sindy had a psychadelic jumpsuit on. Trolls I loved! My brother and I used to save up 8 shillings and sixpence to get one. For some reason our local draper shop sold them. I remember Tonka toys - they were supposed to be indestructable. Hello? whoever designed them did not know my little brother!! I am not sure we had strawberry shortcake but we did have polly pocket - a doll in a plastic case we put around our necks and it was scented with floral smells like lilly of the valley. I think I also had an action girl with moveable limbs etc. My favourite was a cheapo version of Barbie (cheap in every sense of the world) White (Platinum?) hair and loads of eyeliner. She had a whole wardrobe of clothes whcih got pinched when I got to school. Bummer. I also had a Lady Penelope doll and a tin tin doll.
