LBGT Alternachicks

I'm new here, saw an old thread by this name but nothing current. This is a pretty impressive website which I just discovered today as I begin following the South Beach Diet. I was doing ok on Weight Watchers but the point counting drove me nuts.

So I am just checking in as someone new to this site and wondering where the other LGBT Alternachicks are?

squeaker 03-08-2004 06:01 PM

Welcome SoCalBirdLady! but, what in the world is LBGT???

SoCalBirdLady 03-08-2004 06:56 PM

Hi Squeaker--
It is a variety of initials usually in the order of LGBT or even LGBTIQ as I understand it. They stand for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Intersex and Questioning.

Or, perhaps, LGBT might also mean Lettuce, Green pepper, Bacon and Tomato. Sounds almost like that, doesn't it? :)

I was, of course, meaning the former, not the sandwich. And thanks for the quick welcome!

Navi 03-08-2004 07:06 PM

Sometimes I describe myself as "bi" and sometimes "queer" and sometimes "pansexual" and sometimes just plain "greedy."

This is just fine with DH-to-be. (We get to check out chicks together! :D)

Goddess Jessica 03-08-2004 07:11 PM

Bi. aka anything that moves

squeaker 03-08-2004 07:48 PM

DUH! I was trying to figure out what it was, and now feeling really silly.

Welcome again.

While I think women can be beautiful, I have never found myself really attracted to one. But to each her own! :)

Hope you don't mind a straight chick hanging out in your thread too. ;)

Of course not! Just looking to see if there are any other like-minded women much as someone with kids might look for other moms, someone who is a nurse might look for other nurses, etc.

I started South Beach today so of course I am really energized and interested in connecting with others on this board. The real test will be nearing the end of the two week rigid "phase one". I am having some trouble concentrating today and find myself being hungrier than usual.

I have a difficult time being told that I have to limit what I eat... but a WW leader I knew explained it this way: we don't have unlimited time, we don't have unlimited money, so why do we think we can eat unlimited food?

That thought helps.

mauvaisroux 03-08-2004 08:57 PM

Hi SoCalBirdLady, and welcome :)

We did have a thread a long time ago called Lesbialternachicks and friends but I'm not sure what happened to it... :?:

I am doing a combo of ww and SBD simply for the fact that I wanted to jump start my weight loss and I need to eliminate sugar and white flour products from my diet for health reasons.

If you need help or SBD recipes there is an SBD forum on this site as well. Good luck on your plan:D

That's an excellent way to look at it. I'm going to keep that in mind.

Goddess Jessica 03-09-2004 12:44 AM

SoCal - I love LA, BTW. Such a fun city! I'm in San Diego.

blugirrl1 03-09-2004 07:52 AM

Count me in equal opp. love here.

ellis 03-10-2004 08:00 AM

Hey, SoCal! Welcome
I'm hetero, but pro: whatever is good for you. :D And while sex with another woman doesn't appeal to me, I DO think our bodies are much more beautiful to look at than mens.
I think we only had one lesbian here... Soozie. Well, Sarah drops around once in a while... but we're all cool. :smoking:

3fcuser1058250 03-10-2004 08:17 AM

OMG !! My new saying:

"We don't have unlimited time, we don't have unlimited money, so why do we think we can eat unlimited food? "

I hope you don't mind my adding it to my signature?

Thanks...

SoCalBirdLady 03-10-2004 10:02 AM

Lanaii1--

Heck, I don't mind if you add that to your signature at all. I don't own it. The irony is that I learned it from a ww leader but I have decided that ww is not for me (at least for now). It sure does help you stop and think, doesn't it?

Teufelchen 03-10-2004 12:24 PM

Welcome SoCal

I too love that saying and will be putting it up all over, like on the fridge, at work, etc. It's just too true.

I do WW by the way.

3fcuser1058250 03-10-2004 06:23 PM

SoCal -- Thanks .... I'm adding it tonite... I don't do WW either... I do modified BFL, WW doesn't have enough protein or food for me... And when I was with them, for years, as a matter of fact, when I wasn't loosing weight they always looked at me funny and suggested I stop weight training!! NOT!!!!

SoCalBirdLady 03-10-2004 07:08 PM

[QUOTE=Lanaii1]SoCal -- Thanks .... I'm adding it tonite... I don't do WW either... I do modified BFL, WW doesn't have enough protein or food for me...

I know what a BLT is, but what is a BFL??

mauvaisroux 03-11-2004 07:23 AM

I am doing WW but a lower carb version. I find that I function better when I eat a bit of protein with every meal, I need to have a good source of iron (other than pills) and refined carbs affect me in a negative way- they make me drowsy and unfocused and sometimes nauseous after I eat them. :p

SoCaL- I think BFL is Body For Life. Lanaii would have to explain what the program is though.

3fcuser1058250 03-11-2004 01:23 PM

SoCal -- Yes, BFL is Body for Life by Bill Philips.... I started it April 2002, I think it was, or was it 03?... Can't 'member....... I personally find it more balanced... you eat 5-6 meals/day every 2-3 hours... with a portion of lean protein (usually 4-5 oz), portion of unprocessed carb (usually 1/2c. or small potatoe) and vegies at least twice/day, at every meal... I find it keeps my insulin in check with no highs and lows that going more than 3 hours without food does to me... therefore I crave less of the bad unprocessed carbs... You also cut sugar and all white carbs out, except potatoes... You can usually get the book at the library, it's been around for a while now... It is also a lifestyle I can live with for the rest of my life... If you have more questions I'd be more than happy to answer them. Or come and join us at the "Ladies (and Gents) Who Lift" forum, most of us there follow something similarl to that...

rachynymph 04-02-2004 08:27 PM

*raises hand*

Hi... new here. Just thought I would put my 2 cents in- I am gifted with the ability to fall in love with another person, regardless of sex.

Yeah, ok, I'm bi. And I actually am sexually more attracted to women. *shrug*

SoCalBirdLady 04-02-2004 09:15 PM

Welcome!

Most people put the lesbian label on me 'cause I have had two succesive long-term relationships in my adult life and both were with women partners. Personally, I think that it is all very fluid and we all may fit into various different places on the Kinsey scale. I just started this thread to see who might be here.

What I have found no matter where I have gone on this board is a warm and welcoming community where we all have one thing in common: we are trying to lose weight. And a great many of us are succeeding at it!

I tend to hang out either with the Alternachicks or with Fat Chicks on the Beach (South Beach Diet). Jump on in!

SeekInnerThinChick 04-02-2004 11:09 PM

Hi, SCBL, from SITC (sounds cb cal letters or something)-- I'm just an old-fashioned calorie counting four-food group type, watching my portions and trying to eat a very wide variety of food. I'm married, to a guy, although here in Portland, Oregon there have been a flurry of same sex weddings, as you know. It's going to be a very profitable year for wedding planners. What's a Kinsey scale? As long as I don't have to measure food on it-- I can barely use my ounce scale!

SoCalBirdLady 04-03-2004 02:30 AM

The Kinsey scale ranges from 0 to 6. If you are a 0 then you are exclusively heterosexual; if you are a 6, you are exclusively homosexual. Here is a website:

http://allies.tamu.edu/Did%20You%20Know/kinsey.htm

I think I am in between a 4 and a 5. ;)

BerkshireGrl 04-03-2004 06:58 AM

Good morning all!

Count me in to the Bi Crowd ;)

(Hi Ellis!)

Up way too early on a Saturday - gotta go to work for a few hours today. Bleck! After that though, I have decided NO MORE OVERTIME! The money's not worth the stress. I'd rather get back in touch with my long-lost friends, read some books that are gathering dust on my shelves, and get to the gym on a regular basis! Yeah! Screw capitalism! Heheh!

blugirrl1 04-03-2004 10:27 AM

from one of my newsletters i got quite a chuckle :
The trend has, inevitably, spawned new words. Some say they're "heteroflexible." Others sneer that they're merely "fauxmosexual."

lessofsarahtolove 04-05-2004 11:21 PM

Yoo Hoo!

Psssst!! Homogirlie over here! *Raising gloved hand high in the air*

It's great to find another sister in the neighborhood! :grouphug: I just revisited this wonderful group and am so happy that I did.........and may I say, Ellis, I very much appreciate your remembering me -- even by name! You really ARE the most clever of us all! ;) And quite a welcoming community-builder, as well.

Anyway, Chris, I wish you every success on your journey, and look forward to sharing the experience!

SoCalBirdLady 04-06-2004 01:34 AM

Hey Sarah-- Nice to meet you! I just knew there were more of us around here. . .

This is really a great group. I think the women here have made all the difference in my ability to stick to this.

Twenty pounds -- that is fabulous! :cp:

lessofsarahtolove 04-06-2004 12:31 PM

Oh yes, and I forgot to mention that Dr. Kinsey gave me a solid 5.8. ;)

BEACHLUVR 04-07-2004 05:52 PM

I'd love to join y'all. I'm a bonafide lesbian. Been in a relationship for 9 years. I'm currently on the South Beach Diet. In July of last year I started weight watchers and lost about 36 pounds, but I decided I needed to revamp. Got tired of counting!!! My partner's dr. told her that WW, South Beach, and Sugar Busters were the best programs out there, so we decided to try South Beach for a while. It's been a week and I'm down 3 lbs. :cb:

HMOG! Another Lesi! We're rakin' them in, man! :smoking:
Welcome, Lisa! And congratulations on your success so far!! :hat:

lessofsarahtolove 04-07-2004 09:09 PM

:lol3: Ellis, you're killin' me! As a proud representative of the lesbian community, and as the self-proclaimed Diplomatic Emissary of Lesbiana, I hereby declare that the lovely and charming Ellis is an Honorary Most Very Special Friend of the Lesbos. :queen:

Hey, Lisa! Welcome! Nice to meet you, and congrat's on the 3 pound loss -- not the mention the previous 36! :high:

ellis 04-08-2004 07:32 AM

Thank you so much, dah'ling. :D

Ruthxxx 04-08-2004 08:29 AM

Just popping in to say welcome and to state that, if it weren't for sex, I too would be a lesbian! Am I too old to switch?

SoCalBirdLady 04-08-2004 10:21 AM

Hehehe Ruth!

If Ellis can be an Honorary Most Special Friend of the Lesbos then you can too! Lucky for you, I'm also a Diplomatic Emissary.

Welcome Lisa! Your diet history is like mine. I did well in WW (at least before I gained it all back. The bottom line for me is that I can't do points counting for the rest of my life, and what I need is a lifetime change, not just a diet.

When my partner and I met 10 years ago she was thin and bragged that she could eat anything and not gain weight. I guess there is some poetic justice in the fact that we are now both doing South Beach, although she has less to lose. Me, I have struggled with weight since graduating from high school. When I first was on my own I didn't gain because I worked as a nurse, but later on when I went into management, and later into law, between being able to afford to eat out and sitting at a desk all day I got fat.

Now, at 48, I am becoming concerned for my health as well as wishing I could shop in the regular sizes again.

I had a little slip this week, but I am back on target for the April challenge.

Ruth, you're never too old.....there was a time I thought I was straight and now look at me! ;)

ellis 04-08-2004 01:47 PM

Ruth, if you start making passes at me, I'll know you've crossed over.

lizziness 04-08-2004 08:22 PM

 hehe, my hubby is always *****ing bout my girlfriends. but it sure makes for fun nights out where we both can girlwatch..

lizziness 04-09-2004 03:10 PM

blu- I know what you mean. On the one hand it scares him because if I have a female friend he doubts how "friendly" we are... but on the other hand it's some sort of sick male fantasy thing. hehe.

blugirrl1 04-10-2004 09:09 AM

lizzi: too funny. lol my close girl friend now hubby swears we are more than friends. ( for once we are not. hehe) but he just don't believe me. and call me fruity, equal opp. love i may be, but i don't get into for the whole male fantasy bit.
