Did an hour and a half walk today. Mauvais, I wished they'd clear the darned sidewalks properly. Walking home from the Market today, I was EXHAUSTED trying to keep my balance.

Yeah Ellis, it is a big pain tromping through the snow and trying to be careful in case there is ice underneath!

I went to belly dance class tonight- got there a bit late due to traffic problems so only got about 40 minutes in instead of the whole hour. I go to the next class on Thursday :D

Noodles913 01-13-2004 10:09 PM

Tuesday

(I am soreeeee from 2 hours tennis so I decided to take it easy today. Plus my girlfriends bailed out on me for roller skating. Probably a blessing in disguise! hehe)

Has anybody got a kickboxing DVD for clumsy people? I'm trying really hard to do Kathy Smith, but I'm just too dang slow and uncoordinated. I'm always two steps behind them, and I look like I am trying to run into a moving jumprope, but never make it on time. What a mess! It's too cold to do the treadmill in the basement these days, so I need a living room exercise!

What part of the DVD are you doing? There is the starter part that shows you the steps...You sound like me! I am always out of tune with them...esp when that oriental guy takes over!! Then I'm REALLY huffing and puffing like a dog but I figure hey...no ones here...I'm getting some sorta exercise...so..I just do my own thing with their own thing. But MAN my poor boobs hurt after kickboxing!! I bought these sports bras to hold the girls all together but I still hurt! I feel like I got milk in again! :yikes:

The only good part is they aren't sagging anymore...It's like they are musclizing too...Weird huh!! Ok I will shut up now!
:tape:

The elevators at work were all wonky yesterday so I had to take the stairs to my office- 14 flights :yikes:- needless to say I was ready to collapse by the time I got to my office!

And today I had a long arm workout with the office binding machine I had to keep switching arms to use the lever so I wouldn't end up with one PopEye arm and one spindly arm

I have an hour long belly dance class tonight too :D

Noodles913 01-15-2004 10:45 PM

The sidewalk snow has been cleared today, so I actually went out for a jog.

On a related note, how many calories are used up by freezing your *** off?

Here's a good marketing idea: "Shivering Away The Pounds: Weight Loss for Canadians."

Formia 01-22-2004 11:25 PM

Help...

Ok, I need to know how you all motivate yourself to exercise. I must have some kind of mental block or something, because I manage to talk myself out of going all the time. I hate the THOUGHT of exercising... when I'm actually exercising its not so bad. And I feel really great when I'm finished. So what's the deal? I have this great exercise plan in place, but I went Monday and now suddenly its Friday and I haven't been to the YMCA since then.

Any tips, tricks, pointers, or psycho-analysis for me? :?:

sflake 01-23-2004 01:26 PM

I'm with ya Sojo...Thats my exact problem.....Any advice chicksters??? I know, just do it!

Noodles913 01-23-2004 03:13 PM

Humm...What I did was I just started doing exercise that *I* knew I would like. Take for instance Tennis...It's a great stress relief for me to smack those balls around so I knew I would enjoy it if I went back to play. Also, I have always been a roller skater so that was a very easy exercise for me to take back up. Swimming too. Bowling too. Now I just cant stand aerobics and running and certian other exercises so I will never do them. But the things I do like to do I rotate them so I don't get bored and I keep a variety. Plus, your body just feels SOoooo good afterwards. I was really sore when I first started exercising, but now that has gone away and I can feel the difference over all. My biggest motivation now is seeing that my hard work is paying off...my clothes become really loose and baggy on me and watching the scale go down. It just makes you want to keep going...well for me it does.

Hang in there!! :D

Snack 01-23-2004 03:25 PM

My motivation comes from enjoyment, like Noodles said, or from routine.

Once I get bent on doing something, like following a training program, I don't have that much difficulty keeping with it.

Getting into the routine is more challenging, and then I have to focus on doing stuff that I enjoy. Personally, I enjoy stuff that has to do with gadgets. I work in the computer industry, I'm a nerd, and I love anything with shiny plastic or buttons on it. So I bought a heart rate monitor that tracks every statistic I can think of, and I fool around trying different exercises and intensities to see what it does to my statistics.

Most other people don't really share my geeklove for gadgets, but I'm sure there are lots of ways to make a workout program fit into your interests.

mauvaisroux 01-23-2004 11:37 PM

Sojo-Is there any type of sport or physical activity that you have a special interest in?
Maybe trying something new or picking up a sport that you used to enjoy when you were younger would keep you interested and motivated and make exercise more fun instead of a chore.

For example - I was interested in trying bellydancing - 3 years later I am still doing it and have stepped up to 2 classes per week and practicing at home too.

Also if you enjoy walking you could buy a pedometer to wear to track how many steps you have taken that day - that way you would see a daily result and improvements and challenge yourself to take more steps than you did the previous day- break you own record so to speak :) It is something small and simple but it is a start

Jennifer 3FC 01-24-2004 11:21 AM

One thing I do when I really don't want to exercise is tell myself '10 minutes' or '20 minutes' or whatever amount seems like a little at the time, and I always always wind up exercising for the whole 45-60 minutes. A 10 minute promise is enough to get me there, but the endorphins keep me there.

Noodles913 01-25-2004 08:32 AM
