Holiday exercise challenge

Ok, so again with the Holiday challenge

To try and stay motivated and keep fit and to stay active over the next 2 months I am challenging everyone to:

1) exercise at least 15 minutes to 1/2 an hour per day- this could be part of your already establised routine or starting out by doing some simple stretches in the morning when you get up or a walk a round the neigborhood with your family to check out the Christmas lights :)

2) sneak in some extra exercise - this could be taking the stairs in your building or at the mall, parking your car further away from the shops so you get some extra walking in or taking your kids (or your friends) skating or toboganning

Please post your daily efforts so we can all keep on track together :D

dentrassi 10-31-2003 01:41 PM

Joined CURVES and got my first workout in!!! And you all KNOW how sedentary I have been. I am going to start at 3 times a week since I am so out of shape, and try to work up to 5 once I am not so sore.

sflake 10-31-2003 01:55 PM

Yay!!! for Dentrassi!!!! Becareful with the 5 times per week sweetie. I think they advise the 3 times as your muscles need time to rest or some such thing in between exercise sessions.
I'm so proud of you!!!!!!!!!!!!! now go take a nice nap

mauvaisroux 10-31-2003 02:29 PM

:bravo: Dentrasssi! You have taken up the gauntlet of our exerscise challenge -now run with it girl! :D

ellis 10-31-2003 02:43 PM

Geez, Sflake... don't discourage her... she's on a frassin' roll ;)

Oh, dear. What am I doing here?! I'm not ready... back soon.

Den, dear... your are my heroine. :hat:

ellis 10-31-2003 02:45 PM

Besides, Sflake... what the **** do YOU know about exercise? wink wink. hint hint.

sflake 10-31-2003 02:56 PM

hehehe

dentrassi 10-31-2003 03:58 PM

Thanks all!! If i weren't so sore I'd be doing a happy dance!!!!

ellis 10-31-2003 04:00 PM

I'm SO glad to hear you're sore! That's a GOOD sign, Den.
La di da... I'm so happy because Den is exercising.

Wildfire 11-01-2003 08:47 AM

Yay Den! :cb: You're right to take it slow...if you overdo it, you'll want to quit. And you're not going to quit! :nono:

Geez, my exercise is coming all the way up to the Alternachicks forum these days....my other group moved alllllll the way down to Misc. Clubs....at the bottom of the list. We used to be just next door...

I'm in for this challenge, though. I'm working on a run/walk thing on the treadmill.

dentrassi 11-01-2003 12:19 PM

YAY WILDFIRE!!!!!!

Thanks for the support everyone; you KNOW how hard it was for me to get my butt over to Curves, but I think I'm going to like it!!!

RachieD 11-01-2003 01:36 PM

you just have to say " I think I can, I think I can" or how about " I know I can I know I can" then we can all say "horray horray...WE DID IT!"

keep the motivation up....BE HAPPY!!!~

mauvaisroux 11-01-2003 05:22 PM

Well I danced my butt of at a Halloween bash last night so that is a good start. And DH and I ended up parking far away at Costco and walking :)

LadyOnFire 11-02-2003 09:58 AM

wow :spin:

Now making me feel guilty..does riding a motorcycle count???:joker:

ellis 11-02-2003 10:57 AM

Sure, LadyOnFire. At the stop lights, just frantically rotate your arms and legs and you'll burn a few calories.

Irish Tart 11-02-2003 12:20 PM

I walked one mile yesterday (11-1) in the morning with my
dog and two miles last night with my sister...will post later if I can motivate myself to do anything today. I checked a tape series out of the library on procrastination and I must listen to it today...I hope that I can turn listening into action...see you chickies later...

squeaker 11-02-2003 05:50 PM

   You know, if I ever happen see someone doing this while sitting on a motorcycle at a red light, it won't seem unusual now! They may be having an epileptic fit, but I'll just think they're burning calories!

Squeak! Almost done with Christmas shopping? It's still summer, isn't it? I'm not ready for Christmas.....I'm in complete denial. Bah humbug! If I send you a list, will you do mine?:^:

Just did the usual 1 mile at lunch today.

ellis 11-04-2003 07:49 AM

VOW 11-06-2003 01:33 PM

*Happy Dancie for Den joining Curves!*

I've wrecked my knee and haven't Curved in a couple of weeks. I finally got it checked by my family doc, who said, "Probably degenerative arthritis," and gave me the go-ahead to get a brace for it. (Not only did the dang thing HURT, but it also felt like it was gonna collapse on me!) I'm at least hobbling now.

I'm taking next Monday off, so I'll go early to Curves and see just how many of the machines the knee brace will let me do.

LOL, getting old sucks.

Peace and painkillers,
~VOW

mauvaisroux 11-06-2003 03:28 PM

Hope your Knee get better VOW!

I got in a 45 minute walk today at lunch time :cb:

sflake 11-06-2003 03:39 PM

Wildfire -send the list & a credit card and I will gladly do it all for ya. :D

Thanks Ellis & Sflake. I start looking early, and just pick things up as I see them.
