Burp!:o I went out for Greek food last night...Greek beer, Chicken Athena with greek potatoes, small side of Greek salad and Galatikbouriko for dessert....though I did go for a 1/2 hour walk afterwards... :chin: so that may have burned some of those calories off :crossed:
|
I accidentally ate some carrots, which are NOT on my new diet!
|
What diet is that Ellis? Oh, is it South Beach or one of the other glycemic-index ones? Those are the ones that don't like carrots I think. And how is it going? What CAN you eat?
Lidian |
Yes, it's the South Beach, Lidian. We bought the book the other day... this is our second day on it. Apart from a headache from cutting back on the carbs, I'm doing pretty well.
I'll tell you more about it later, but I'm burning my dinner. (yes Lidian... I am actually making dinner! ;) ) |
I'm back. :D
For dinner I'm eating a chicken breast with roasted Spanish onion, broccoli, mushrooms and red pepper. It's pretty yummy. Got a big bowl full. burp Here's a good link... Prevention magazine did an article on the diet, and covered it fairly extensively. There's even a forum for it on their site. http://www.prevention.com/cda/featur...0,5023,00.html For dessert I get to have this yummy mixture of low-fat ricotta with a tiny bit of sweetener (I know, I know... I hate sweeteners, but this isn't going to kill me), grated lime zest, and vanilla extract. Or I COULD have the Mocha Ricotta Creme instead. :D Or the Almond Ricotta Creme... I even get to have snacks. A mozzarella cheese stick mid-morning, and a couple of slices of low fat chicken or ham with scallions and red pepper strips wrapped in lettuce for a mid-afternoon snack. For breakfast this morning I had an egg-white omelet full of mushrooms, onions and spinach. And a little mozzarella. With a glass of V-8. And coffee with skim milk. And for lunch my DH made us romaine lettuce wraps with tuna, radishes, onions, red pepper, and a little olive oil dressing. It was wonderful! (of course I WAS pretty hungry... it's amazing how good ANYTHING will taste when you're on a diet) To my surprise, I'm not missing my much-lusted-after bread. I DID see a 5 dollar bill sticking out of my knapsack this afternoon and thought, "Aha! Bridge mixture and a bag of chips!" But I overcame the moment. There's an initial two week period with no bread stuff (including rice, pasta, etc) or fruit. But you get lots of veg. And then there's phase 2... you get to start adding in a few extra carbs. And there's phase 3, which is maintenance. I'm really glad I bought the book. I was going to try to wing it with info from the Internet, but it was worth the 35 dollars. Ummm, as we're in "pigs", I will confess that I had a handful of pistachios this afternoon. Which are allowed, but not in quite the quanitity I had. |
mmmmm....your dinner sounded pretty yummy Ellis-good luck with your plan :lucky: I had read an article on the South Beach diet and it sounded pretty interesting. There are a few people in the Low-Carb forum that are doing it too.
Well I went to a bbq yesterday- I tried hard to stay OP...I had a small steak and some salad but then I ended up eating some pasta salad :T - but very high in points, had a couple of beers then two coffees and some cookies. I hope I haven't done too much damage between Friday and Saturday- I will eat well today and drink lot's of water :) Tomorrow is weigh in :yikes: |
That DOES sound good, Ellis...I have a book from years ago called "The Good Calorie Diet" based on the glycemic index thing and it sounds a lot like South Beach, in fact almost exactly the same except that in the first phase you don't eat animal protein and then ease back into chicken et al in the 2nd phase. It always looked pretty good to me. Maybe I will try it out too!
Lidian |
Some of the LC Chicks on the South Beach have been having problems with Phase II. Adding back more carbs just does not work for them - so far.
Pig out confession: I ate about 1/2 a boz of Stoned Wheat Thins last night but I did share with the Doggage and used fat free cheese. |
Where do I start?
:moo: :ink: I am the piggiest of the pigs.
Breakfast One Oreo Cookie Icecream Sandwich Bowl of Spaghetti Handfuls of M&M's Last Night 1 Custard 1 Lemon Ice 1 Steak Sandwich 1/2 Order of Fries 1 Rootbeer (not diet!:o , like it would have mattered!) Yesterday 1*10^6 bowls of Cinnamon Life:ink: :ink: some Snicker bars some assorted Hershey Chocolates (I don't even like these!) More food than anyone person can fit in. I am so gross, and spent some time whipping myself with a cane(no it wasn't a candy cane or I probably would have ate that too!!!!!) So nothing to do but weigh (tommorow:^: ) Chris:queen: :ink: |
Oh damn... I just ate 4 pieces of bacon. I'll have to leave the meat out of my dinner. I feel like emptying the fridge into my stomach. First time I've really had cravings on this diet. I'm NOT hungry... I'm just having some sort of attack.
|
I am thinking about those cashews. Good thing they are in a high place in several layered containers or else they would be gone. Gone! And yesterday, in anticipation of starting SB, I had 2 large peppermint patties, some goldfish& about 4 pieces of raisin toast. Burp!
Lidian |
Lidian, are you doing South Beach? Did you buy the book? If not, I've got it, and I'm totally easy with the info. :) In exchange for the occasional kick in the butt.
|
well, I have had a handful of swedish fish, 2/3 of a bag of popcorn and a 1/2 box of raisinets. and now I have coffee and am eyeing the box of Munch-ems. I am sitting here at work at 2:05am, and waiting for what I am suppose to be doing to start. I don't think it will anytime soon, so I will probably eat some more. I love all you Canadian chickies, but I am currently sending not-so-nice vibes to BC, since they are the cause of my problems. Also, I hate payroll. :p
|
Yes Ellis, I am just into day 2 - it is OK so far! You inspired me, you see...I do have a question for you - I know you can have skim milk in coffee in the morning in phase one...what about fat free sugar free yogurt? Or soy milk? I like the Source yogurts & would like to alternate them with the egg whites & Piller's fake bacon (turkey ham strips, 20 cals each, pretty good too but not bacon, sigh!) in the morning.
It is strange not to have bread. But so far no headaches, which is good. How are you doing? You are just about at the end of week one, right? Lidian |
Lidian, it says to avoid all yogurts, ice cream, and soy milk in phase one.
We bought Maple Leaf turkey bacon. I'm actually getting used to it. :) I just looked at Phase Two... you can start having the yogurt (light, fruit-flavored plain, low-fat or fat-free) and light soy milk. We're on day seven today. So far I haven't deviated at all. Although yesterday I DID eat more than I should have. (4 extra pieces of bacon and 4 pieces of low-fat chicken cold cuts) But I've lost 5 pounds so far, and I'm pretty happy with the diet. We also bought a bunch of those little cans of V-8 for breakfasts. I HATE tomato juices, but again, I'm getting used to this. |
Thanks Ellis - nix on the yogurt until June 18th for me! And congratulations - 5 lbs is fantastic! I hope I can do as well as you. I am using the Piller's turkey-ham strips, but I might get turkey bacon too. I really hate tomato juice too...I guess I will eat the tomatoes instead. I like red pepper a lot though, and the girls hate it, so I won't have to hide them!
Again thank you for saving me from yogurt & soy milk based deviance! Lidian |
:p I had a huge carb craving last night! :( I caved and made homemade macaroni and cheese mixed with steamed broccoli-only problem is that I ate two huge bowls of it then at around 11 pm I was so hungry that I had a bowl of cereal
Damn those cabs! (where is the Charlton- Heston-fist shaking-damn -you -all -to -**** smiley??????) |
Well, everyone - my South Beach experience is (as they say on Iron Chef, which I love!) OVAH. I was feeling SO awful (like I did on Atkins for 2 days) I thought it might not be PMS (which isn't like this at all - I felt quite sick). So I had yogurt & a dry piecce of toast this morning and immediately felt fine.
I am still going to watch out for REFINED carbs, and nix on the margarine as much as possible. But I really don't like eggs and meat that much - not every day anyway. And I love oatmeal & yogurt! Ellis - you are great! I am really looking forward to hearing how South Beach is going for you & I am really happy that it is working out well for you. Lidian |
I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, Lidian. :( I understand how you feel. I felt HORRIBLE on the Atkins diet, but I know it works for some, so each to her own.
I must say, I'm eating WAY more vegetables than I used to on this diet. And the eggs and meat... I'm not big on them either, but I know that previous to this diet I was replacing them with Bridge Mixture and Doritos, so there must be some improvement in there SOMEWHERE! :D Anyhow, I think that every diet we go on teaches us a little something about food values, so it's never a total loss. :) |
Darn it! I ended up going to Tim Horton's on the way home last night and getting a coffee (ok) and a Boston Cream doughnut (soooo not okay :nono: ) I was mad:mad: at myself even as I was inhale the darn thing but ate it anyway.
Hey Lidian, I was trying to cut carbs too but I just can't do it completely. I switched to wholewheat products and trying to limit them to one carb meal per day-usually in the morning or pasta at night since I tend to get really sleepy and can't focus at work if I eat them at lunch. |
That's exactly where I'm at too, Mauvais...the less processed the carbs, the better I feel, but I do need a certain amount of them. If I have them for one meal I will try and lay off them after that, pretty much.
I agree, Ellis - you learn something from each diet, whether it works for you or not. The main thing I guess is to find the best plan for YOU, whether it is from a book or cobbled together from various sources. One thing I know for sure is that the days of bridge mix/midget mix/chocolate-filled hard candies/mini French Mint bars are over forever for me...I can't believe my grad school diet was noodles, muffins & Tobler bars (& wine at night! yum yum) - no wonder I had so many problems with my thesis! I always thought it was that I hated academia - maybe it was too much sugar! Lidian |
Oh geez... MUST you talk of Boston Cream Donuts, Mauvais.
And you, Lidian... chocolate/chocolate/chocolate... waaaaaaaaaah!! I am DYING for a sugar fix. It's not my brain calling out... I know it's my taste buds. Something sweet, then something salty, something sweet, something salty... |
I had two hot dogs for lunch BUT they were on flax/12 grain rolls and I only had 1 roll. Harry managed to stab the rolls with the BBQ fork and they sort of disintegrated. (I've been avoiding highly processed foods like hot dogs and cold cuts.)
|
Sorry Ellis! Will not mention that stuff again. I know, when I read this thread I always get hungry...not that I don't really LIKE reading it.
I am about to go lie down and read some new Nancy Drews I got (supposedly for the girls) secondhand - Nancy Drew Case Files series. Not too bad, the one I started. That Nancy! NOW she's on vacation in the Berkshires!(in the one I started) Her father (the noted lawyer Carson Drew) suggested she go there and stay with a (presumably wealthy) family friend "for a vacation" -- from what, precisely? (I guess all that mystery stuff is tiring, though she ought to try coming over to MY house and looking after the girls, the cats, the piles of clothes! There's no Hannah around here - unless its me, and I am a poor imitation of the fabulous Hannah... ...Two days at my house and Nancy D. would NEED a VACATION!) Lidian |
I'm sure I've said this before, but why the heck (in the originals) do they; everytime they refer to Hannah, call her "Hannah Gruen"?! Like we might be confused and think it was some other Hannah!
Where am I? Ah, Pigs Anon. Nothing to confess. Sorry. :D |
There is only one Hannah! And I wish SHE would come on over here and straighten this place out and serve up her famous steaming hot whatever-it-is. And I will go out and solve intriguing mysteries.
(The only mystery around here is where is youngest DDs favourite marble. I've been looking but I dunno where it is!) Lidian |
Um, well, you see, I went to an ice cream festival of sorts today. It was for the local cancer institute. You pay $6 admission and get as many sample sizes of ice cream as you wanted. There was Perry's, Ben & Jerry's (my personal fav.) and Hagen Daaz (how ever that is spelled). I ate way too much. The oatmeal cookie ice cream was my favorite. Also had 2 slices of pizza and a few wings for dinner. *burp* :o
|
When DH and I were out shopping yesterday we ended up a a chip truck where I scarfed down a small order of fries :nono:-at least I washed them down with a diet drink.
|
confession...
i swore i wouldn't reward myself for a PERFECT week by cheating, but then...
had 3 glasses of wine and a veggie burger (with cheese and guac) and french fries last night. :yikes: but you know, i didn't feel that bad about it. the portions weren't huge and i didn't feel overstuffed like i used to get at a restaurant (on purpose)... and when i plugged everything into my calorie log, i was only at 1800 for the day! which is WAY more than the 1200 i aim for, but still not that bad! (considering my body burns like 2000 just existing, or something...) so i am a bit of a pig, but after 7 days of being really, really good, maybe i deserved it. and i'm right back OP today. :D gypsy |
On Saturdays I have a day off, every week - I think it is a really good idea, Gypsy, to do what you did. Cuz then you say to yourself the rest of the week: you can have that on the free day, so carry on being good NOW! Works for me - most of the time! (I do have a chocoalte mint on a weekday sometimes if I really really think I need to, but not very often)
And also if you eat more one day it shakes up your metabolism in a good way, your body doesn't get overly used to the same thing. I know there is more to this but I can't quite explain it this early in the morning (that's my excuse, anyway) Lidian |
I'm expecting a major oink in the way of some Italian pasta sauce from my sweet old neighbour. He's going to drop by this afternoon with something.? Unfortunately he only speaks about 6 words of English, so a great deal of hand waving went on this morning. But I suspect it'll be some of his WICKED meatball sauce. Give me strength...
|
BE STRONG ELLIS!
Miss Chris |
so...ummm.. when are we invited over for dinner Ellis?
|
You are all invited. I will eat my spinach and chicken salad while you wolf down the carbohydrates. :D
|
Hey, why don't you use the sauce to make chicken caccitore and feed the meatballs to the kids? :)
|
Well, I'm just wondering where the heck the sauce IS!! I wonder if he came by when I fell asleep this afternoon... Maybe we really DID having a communication problem. We had one once... we'd just eaten dinner and then discovered that he'd invited us for dinner that evening... had to go over and force down the most incredible Italian food plus homemade wine. :D
Good idea re: the sauce, Mauvais! I'll do it! |
Well, speak of the devil! It just arrived! :D
I just tasted one meatball. Oh my... it's like heaven. That man could make a FORTUNE with this sauce! |
Tell him to come to Omaha, Italian food sucks here he could make a mint! TOO MUCH SUGAR IN THE SAUCES NOT ENOUGH GARLIC!
Miss Chris |
Chris, you haven't LIVED until you've had a garlic sandwich! Yum!!
:D Oh geez... it wasn't the meatballs. It was the pizza that the kids had for dinner and the chocolate chip cookies they made afterwards. I ate one piece of pizza. It was damned good. Then I ate 4 cookies (they're pretty big). And then I snarfed down 3 more. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! Back to sticking to my diet today!! |
It all sounds very delicious Ellis - I couldn't resist when WE had pizza on Friday night, which is NOT the official Lidian Pig Out on Takeout Night...And as for chocolate chip cookies, well, if they are in the house I must and will eat many.
Anyway, it is a GOOD THING to eat more calories some days and shake up your metabolism! There's a good hidden agenda. Like when I ate 2 (two!) Peps on Monday. (I could eat 2 every day, mind you, I really love them, and they are 2 for a dollar at the loonie store) That meatball sauce sounds amazing. I laughed about you having to go eat that second dinner - we used to live in a Portuguese/Italian neighborhood and I NEVER knew what the neighbours were saying. Lidian |
