IMHO: Matrix Reloaded
Getting all hyped up about seeing the second movie in the Matrix trilogy I sat down and re-watched the first movie. Once again I was struck by the powerful underlying themes of faith, how does one measure reality and priorities, and the power of love. Plus the action kicks booty.
Well you get all the action in Matrix: Reloaded. The fight with all the Agents Smiths kicked butt. But there was this really gratuitous party/sex scene which was so unneccesary. :?: The story line lacked the depth and grace of the original and basically seemed to steal from the first movie. Spirituality? Your Gods can be another form of control (The socialist Marx (sp?) thought the same thing). I will see the next movie. But overall the story line let me down, yet the action kept me entertained. The car chase was pretty intense. So everybody's husband should love it! Miss Chris:cool: |
Chris did you stay and watch the teaser after the credits? they have about a 3 minute teaser to the part 3.... was pretty good. I was just let down a little about how it ended... just too abrupt personally and it was a little slow. The Dance scene reminded me of something off of soul train no offense to anyone it just was a lil bizarre. I really like some of the action scenes...
but over all it was a let down.... We saw it twice, once by choice once out of commitment to a friend to see it with them. Wasn't any better the second time. A |
Yes...
I so wanted to love this movie, but it just didn't happen. Too much psychobabble gobbledygook dialogue that made little sense to most people in the crowd. And what I could glean from it just wasn't very thought provoking or enlightening and really didn't answer "the questions" in an interesting or meaningful way... its like they were trying too hard to be philisophical and mysteriously wise. When the action stopped, the movie just didn't work. In Matrix, everything flowed together seamlessly and the story was completely engaging. Reloaded just was not able to connect with the audience like the first one. I felt completely detached from the movie the entire time, unlike Matrix where I was engrossed and on the edge of my seat. Plus the love stuff was a little over the top. The audience actually groaned/laughed at some moments that should have been emotional and serious. There are some amazing fight sequences and special effects. One of the highway crashes is perhaps the best special effect I have ever seen in a movie. Amazing. Its definitely worth seeing if you are a Matrix fan, but don't expect it to be better than the first. And yes, the end just came suddently and there was no build up or anticipation... just like they had to pick a convenient spot to end it. Its rare that you see a sequal better than the original... this just didn't do it.

I saw X2 last night....I wanna be a mutant too!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Yeah, X-men2 kicked butt :D
I saw the Matrix2-Reloaded. I enjoyed it but I thought the tribal dance party went on too long-it felt like being at a rave vicariously  I thought Morpheous's speech in the cave at Zion was a bit uninspired but the rest of it was pretty good. Wicked action scenes!! I personally find the love story between Trinity and Neo boring- they lack chemistry and I don't find them to be believable as a couple- the love scene went on too long for me. We stayed for the trailer after the credits- Revolutions looks like it will be good :) I am looking forward to seeing The Next 28 Days (Zombie film), The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (starring Sean Connery), Underworld, T-3, and of course the third installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Phew! I better keep saving my airmiles so I can trade them in for movie tickets  |
Mauvais ~ The manager at our theater(16 screen in a pretty big town) knows my husband and I like we were best friends. He says I look like Helen Hunt... and is always flirting but I swear we should own stock in Carmike Theaters....
I am looking forward to many many movies coming out. LXG, 2Fast2Furious, Finding Nemo, T3, Return of the King, Pirates of the Caribean.... Saw the previews for the ultimate... Jason VS Freddie... OMG when will they finally kill those two off for good? Pirates looks like it is going to have some awesome special effects and it has my sexy man in it (Orlando Bloom) and Johnny Depp isn't hard on the eyes either. Think I will go watch LOTR for a while before crashing. A |
Helen Hunt, Amy! You babe, you!! :D
|
Watched Red Dragon. Very cool. Reminded me a lot of Silence of the Lambs. MUCH better then Hannibal.
|
watching dogs eat eachother would have been better than watching Hannibal. That movie was genuinely bad.
There certianly are a lot of "boy" movies coming out lately. Not that I mind, but... T3, Jason V. Freddy... these are movies that my husband is going to make me go see! And there is nothing out that looks any good that I want to watch that can reciprocate the pain! I mean... "Down with Love?" c'mon... Though I did see a lovely movie - unrated - that had Ewan McGreagor in it. ALL of him. :o I think it was Pillow Book? Can't wait for finding Nemo. It's sad when two grown adults without children watch as many cartoons as we do. heh. oh well. Any suggestions on a good chick movie I can drag hubby to without wanting to retch while watching it? |
Lizziness, before my DH and I had kids we watched animated films all the time. :D Now that we HAVE kids, we are completely BORED with them (the movies, not the kids)!
Although "Waking Life" was EXCELLENT! And not for children anyhow. |
Finding Nemo is going to rock.... We have kids but I tell you... Lilo and Stitch, The Emperor's New Groove, Shrek... really those movies are not really "kids" movies they are just animated. I am sure if I really thought about it I could find some more but my head hurts this AM.
Heck I came home the other day and Lilo an Stitch was in the DVD player... lets just say the kids weren't home. |
Shrek was good. I love that what's her name didn't get "beautiful" at the end. :)
|
Hmmmmm....
Most of the time I'd rather watch a "guy" movie than a "chick flick". Give me Terminator over a movie starring Meg Ryan anyday.
|
Come on over Sojo, I agree!!!!!!
Miss Chris |
a good chick movie is hard to find. last good one i watched was Bridget Jones' Diary. That's been a while. Seems to me that media thinks women are stupid and want to see other stupid women with predicaments worse than our own. We are, after all, Lucy - and are getting ourselves into predicaments ALL the time! I suppose if Ricky would just let us go to work... no wait... back to the subject at hand... *L*
I saw "Sweet home alabama" and "Legally Blonde" because Reese Witherspoon did like 2 movies I liked, so I thoughts I'd give it a try. Talk about PAIN! Sometimes I just have to watch a movie like that to piss off hubby. :) He made me go see the Matrix: Reload this weekend. And I enjoyed it. It has these great underlying themes that are in a lot of things I've been reading and watching lately. There were a few excessive scenes, though and I felt it to be way hyped up. Overall I enjoyed it. Then again... we snuck in booze into the theater! *LOL* |
I am really not a big "chick flick" fan either. I do enjoy dramas involving women like American Beauty, Magnolia etc. I can't stand any Julia Roberts driven sappy romantic comedy crap or the totally predictable stuff like "Terms of Endearment" and Beaches".
On that note, I did however enjoy My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Chocolat, and Like Water for Chocolate. Maybe just because these films involved food??? |
um, I like "chick flicks"...
|
Chocolat is one of my faves. It has to be good, even my husband enjoyed it. Then again, anything with Jonny Depp (aside from the one with the books and satanism?) has to be good! He's just so... pretty. :)
Squeaker - don't worry about it. I'm sure nobody will tease you. Much. :smug: Besides, I have a major thing for gay/lesbian films. "johns" is one of my alltime faves. So is "The Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls In Love" and I just watched another one the other day. umm... better look it up on imdb.. "Better than Chocolate" It's my little secret. heh. Living life vicariously for those who are braver than I.... no wonder I eat too much. *LOL* |
I generally don't like most of what is available in theatres today. But I must admit that I will watch the typical chick flick, if it's on tv... 10 years later.
Well that's not completely true, I've seen a lot of those movies but it's usually because someone else has rented them, or I'm in a particularily sappy mood and I don't want to be complicated by things like a plot or good dialogue. I do have a secret movie love though, and that is the classic made for tv melodrama about the hot topic of the day, abuse, teen homocide, etc etc. Starring whoever was most popular on network television at the time (if you were lucky). I really miss those movies, they were such a guilty pleasure. Some nights when I can't sleep, I pray for a complete crap made for tv movie to come on because it's just so bad, it's alllllllll good. My favorite movie to date has to be Requiem for a Dream. That movie just tears you apart and leaves you for dead on the side of the road. Fantastic! |
Watched 2 movies this weekend.
Trapped - which wasn't bad. Not a great movie, but it was entertaining. Secretary - I liked it a lot, but definately not for everyone. |
I saw Runaway Bride only because I was on a flight to Vancouver and the stewardesses prevented me from jumping out of the airplane in order to escape Julia Roberts
My kind of chick flick is Breakfast at Tiffany's :) we all have our guilty pleasures ;) I like most of Audrey Hepburn's films and I love Auntie Mame and Hello Dolly! :o I also love old musicals like Singing in the Rain, Brigadoon, Holiday Inn etc. etc. and stuff like All About Eve with Betty Davis. |
Mauvais, my daughter IS Audrey Hepburn. ;) She watches her movies over and over.
In particular "Charade". Cary Grant is a bit of a hoot. |
Yeah, Charade is a good one. I want to live like crazy Auntie Mame! Except the part about the different husbands-I'll keep the one I've got :D
|
I saw a sneak preview of "The Italian Job". I am not a big fan of action movies, but this one was really cool. I liked it alot.
|
I would see it just for Edward Norton - he is such a great actor!
Hmmmm....yeah and for Donald Sutherland too. I had a big crush on him when I was a kid - he has the most amazing voice-and he was in a Kate Bush video-how cool is that! |
Mmmm... Donald Sutherland. I have a crush on him NOW! *LOL* Yeah, that's right... I got a sneak for older men. My favorites are older men who are tall, skinny, balding, and especially if they have a big nose.
I know, that sounds bizzare doesnt it? Especially coming from a 22 y/o but it's true i swear! Give me Anthony Edwards any day!!! Mmmmm. Although, a nice little Ed Norton isn't so bad either. And right now I have a big thing for Jake Gyllenhaal. I think it's cause hes a good actor though - although he is easy on the eyes too. Okay, I'm done rambling now. I'm just really nervous about my job interview today. UGH!!! |
That is okay Liziness- I have had a crush on Leonard Cohen since I was 15
|
Unfortunately, Donald isn't in it that much. Ed Norton is very cool. My favorite guy in the movie is Jason Statham. He was in Snatch & Lock, Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels.
|
OOH!!! I like Sutherland too!!!
|
Me too! I really liked him in Ordinary People.
I also find Ed Asner very attractive. :D And Leonard Cohen... me too, Mauvais! He was a babe when he was young, and he still looks pretty good. |
We watched Windtalkers on the Movie network this weekend. REALLY violent (well, it is a war movie), but quite an amazing story. I had no idea. If anyone hasn't seen it and gets the movie networks in Canada, it's worth watching. If only for 2 hours with Adam Beach. :T No, really...I was impressed with the role the Navajo played in the war.
|
Isn't the movie Secretary all about S&M... bondage etc.???
|
It has to do with S&M (very little bondage), but that isn't all it is about. It is NOT even close to a soft core porn movie.
It is actually about a relationship that evolves between two people who are not the norm. Sexuality is part of it, but so are their mental and emotional needs. That is why I won't recommend it to most people. But if you are open to watching a very different kind of relationship, it is a great movie. The acting is excellent. It was actually nominated for a few Independent Spirit Awards (The indie movie version of the Oscars). Anyway here is a review - Secretary PS - I am not avocating this, or any other kind of relationship, for that matter. I just thought it was a cool movie. As for relationships - as long as it invloves consenting adults, and doesn't break the law, I don't care what people do in their bedrooms. |
I think you are right Sojo- though I haven't seen that film yet.
We bought a couple of Dvd's on Friday....2 days in the Valley, Knock around guys, The Ring and Signs...we'll have to have a movie night sometime soon. |
NEMO>>>> Finding Nemo was absolutely cute.... If you haven't seen our website.... Reefcrazed- is simply that we are Reef crazed and they did a wonderful job of depicting the ocean and the reef... really cute. A must see for the family.
|
I got Glory over the weekend, but haven't watched it yet.
Opps - I didn't notice we posted at the same time yesterday Mauvais. :) Yes Sojo was right. |
Disney
Took my little niece and nephew to see Finding Nemo this weekend... cute and the kids loved it.
But here is the deal... why is it that in practically every Disney movie the mother is killed off or the child is orphaned? And why is it that in almost every Disney movie women are portrayed as beautiful and good or ugly and evil. Queens are always evil, kings and princes are good. Evil stepmothers. And the orphan/motherless thing really gets me. Here is a summary off the top of my head: Bambi: mama killed & father delinquent Cinderella: parents dead & evil stepmother Snow White: not sure about parents, saved by male dwarves who she moves in with to cook and clean for... evil queen Sleeping Beauty: evil witch, woman saved by prince Rapunzel: not sure about the parent situation, evil queen and needs saving by prince Little Mermaid: no mother, evil female creature, mean king father, runs away with prince Lion King: father killed... for once a decent mom Mulan: runs away from parents, disguises self as boy Tarzan: orphaned in the jungle Peter Pan: dad and kids abandon mother for adventure Alice in Wonderland: adventure without parents 101 Dalmations: parents are there but of course evil fur wearing woman The Jungle Book: orphaned boy The Rescuers: girl kidnapped Lilo & Stich: no parents, being raised by sister Finding Nemo: mom killed, the few females in movie shown as silly, dumb, or dangerous Aladdin: no parents I think, princess under control of king Pinnochio: no mother Beauty & the Beast: father imprisoned... not sure about mom Ok... I'll stop now. Isn't that unbelievable? :?: |
Yeah, Disney sucks.
|
Hmmm..kinda of dysfunctional and depressing ain't it?
|
I love Disney. I know a lot of people don't like that there aren't proper mother, father, family relationships in most of their movies but then would there be trials and tribulations if the characters were in a functional family relationships? I mean, when's the last time you went to the movies to watch a happy family function correctly? I think it's great that Disney shows their main character in a very hard family situation and maybe subliminally it shows most kids that if the main character can "conqueor all" without a great family that they can do even better because of their family. Just my two cents.
I got to see Bruce Almighty! Very good film. Jim Carrey doesn't take over like he normally does. Nice plot. Great ending. |
