~~November Golden Girls~~
We are about Fun and Friendship after 50...
We are the Golden Girls... There is Value in us There is Power in us There is Wisdom in us And Laughter.... We are a rainbow of unique wonders, There is love in us. (poem by Dorothy Holmes) Tell us a little about your life, family and goals. What keeps you motivated? What is the best thing that's happened to you since you passed the 50 mark? 60 mark? 70 mark? Friends laugh, cry and stand by each other, we'll be that to you! __________________ |
Thank you Bobbi

Hi Bobbi.....I had to chuckle at both of our wrong conclusions! I didn't know that about the birds, etc! My name is Decorlover because I like decor, as in decorating my house! Thank you for the warm welcome.
I guess I am suppose to tell a little bit about myself....I am happily married to my wonderful husband, Mike. (38 yrs.). We have 3 grown children and 10 grandchildren. I am a Christian and involved in our church, and have a group of friends who are a blast to hang out with. I like to decorate and give my humble opinion to friends who ask for help in choosing paint colors, etc. I am passionate about politics, but will refrain from that subject here! I started drinking IdealShape shakes as a way to lose weight, and hope to lose around 25 or so lbs. I am looking forward to learning anything I can to help me achieve my goal, and hopefully be an encouragement to you all, as well :) |
Good Morning...my vacation time is about an hour away. That's when DH leaves for deer hunting and I love, love, love the time alone. Well, Charlies here. He's been whinning since yesterday because he see Bruce packing and he thinks he's going hunting too. Bruce usually has to sneak his rifle out to the truck without Charlies seeing it or he goes radical.
I've been gluten and dairy free for two days now and still got a headache at 1:30 this morning. I'm going to stay on the gluten free diet anyway while DH is gone until all traces of gluten are out. It can't hurt. Thanks for the bio decor, that's a nice talent to have. (Decorating). |
Good morning goldies
Ds should be here in 1 1/2 hours. Yay. So excited. Wil post when he arrives. Hugs Cajun |
Good morning GG's,
One day down ~ two more to go. Then off the weekend. I had been having a headache the last couple days ~ not a horrible one like I use to have, but enough to be annoying and take some of the enjoyment out of my free hours. I know it was from stress and worry about my son. He told me to stop worrying ~ that a wise woman he knows (you mom) had told him that ~ this too shall pass and that everything will be ok and work itself out somehow. Why is it so hard for that wise woman to follow her own words? LOL. Any way ~ glad the headache is gone. Feel better this morning. I didn't get out of work on time to get to be here when Maddie came around trick-or-treating. DH is good at taking lots of pictures though, so I got to see those. Welcome Decorlover. Looking forward to getting to know you more. So happy for you Cajun that your son is almost home :carrot::carrot::carrot: Bobbi ~ enjoy your alone time :carrot::carrot::carrot: for you too. You and Charlie :D Hello to everyone else. Off to work in a bit. Hope you all have a nice day. Take care |
Good morning Goldies,
Another sunny day here. 35 degrees right now. I STILL didn't get up in time to get to the Y while they have open swim. You can only use the pool while there is a lifeguard on duty, and they only have them for open swim from 6 to 8 AM, and 11 AM till noon. The rest of the time is different groups, and classes, and Handicapped exercisers, so the times are limited. Bobbi, I have forgotten if you're diabetic, but, when you get these headaches, have you checked your blood sugar? It might be bottoming out in the middle of the night and causing your headaches. Also, check your blood pressure if you have a cuff or machine. I don't know if you take a BP medication, but, if you take it in the AM, it's possible it may be wearing off in the middle of the night and you might need an adjustment to the dosage. Another thought is cluster headaches. They usually woke my niece up in the middle of the night, and she had pain (headache) behind her one eye. She also was sensitive to sunlight in that one eye and has to wear sunglasses if the sun is really bright. Another thought, .... have you got carbon monoxide detectors that are reliable? It usually builds up during the night when the house is closed up tightly. Just a couple of thoughts. I hate to see you having pain, especially when it interrupts your sleep. Thanks for starting the Nov. thread. Gayle, you're a woman after my own heart. I'm not happy unless I have something to worry about, my kids say. :D I made some remark the other day about how I'd feel awful if one of those guys got hurt while working on my house, especially while under the porch etc when it's just sitting on jacks. My son just shook his head and laughed. he said "they know what they're doing, Ma". I just called that Express Scripts last Thursday to have my maintenance meds delivered by mail, and they delivered the first one on Monday. Then they called Tuesday and left a msg that they were shipping another one that day, and I received it yesterday already. Fast service, free and cheaper. Cajun, your son is most likely home by now, so you wont probably read this for a while, but, I'm happy for you, your son and your whole family. It's so warm feeling, having them close to home. Enjoy your day. Decor lover, I'm glad you're here. Maybe I can call upon you for some ideas if I have questions when painting etc after the contractors get done here. I'm thinking gray in my bathroom, but not 50 shades, just 2 shades. There wont be much wall exposed anyway by the time the shower is installed and I put the new cabinets in. It will even go with the flooring. I hope everyone has a great day. Take care, ..... |
Just a quick drop in!!!! He's home. A sight for sore eyes. Still handsome as ever. He said it's so good to be home. Right now he's going see his dog and look at the lot that we did for his house. Gotta go. He'll be right back!
Did I say thank you for all your support and prayers and words of encouragement. Y'all are an awesome group!!!!! Hugs Cajun |
Bobbi - I copied the potato recipe. My husband (Mr Potato Head) is going to LOVE them! We get seasoned fries at one of the casinos but I have never made them at home.
Thanks, I will be back later to answer more posts. I have to finish making dinner. |
Evening all...still cool down here about 65 and in the 40's tonight. Lovin it! Just sit and shake my head at the folks up North with post storm problems. You got plan plan plan ahead. Like tank up gas on all your vehicles, bottled water stockpile.(we filled the tub as a kid) and lots of easy meals...like tuna salad, p&j sandwiches, and my favorite canned hash that I can heat on grill or over sterno. Never had free ice/water/food from Fema or Red Cross. Have a real question what happened to all the bugs and rats down in the tubes????eeeewhie!
Next year come the end of October will someone hit me across the back of my head...I take the house apart looking for the tax bill which of course arrives Nov. 1st. Would you believe they charge you 1% interest if you pay online? Why they would actually get it faster.....I'll write a check before I pay that fee. My darn left knee just won't ease up. I sit and feel good and as soon as I stand it explodes. Oh well less than 3 weeks until the appt. Getting old ain't for sissys! Cajun....so glad your DS is home and safe. Prayers do work. Gayle...Hey you don't listen to us when we tell you you're wonderful so why would you listen to you? Rosey....Is Steve okay? I saw he had lost weight in the last pictures and was gonna comment....he's had enough trouble this past year. Bobbi...All alone! Wow enjoy...I have 3 days next month that am counting down to....sighhhhhh Zoe, Marie, Isabella wherefore art thou? Missing you bad Off to find some new books for my kindle.....k3 |

Good Morning...I miss Isabella too, she's laying low I think. I miss Lynn and Donna too.For those newbies, she lives in Newfoundland.
Carbie...no, I'm not diabetic and know nothing about my blood sugar. We do have a blood pressure cuff but my blood pressure has always been very low. I suffered with these nightly headaches until I went to have allergy tests. Found out I was allergic to Maple trees, cats and dust mites. I was doing great until we closed up the house and put the heat on. I've got a really old carbon monoxide detector, I will buy a new one next time I go into town. (we live in the country). Thanks for that thought. Quote:
Rosie...love the pink boots. Where on earth did you find them? I have a pair of Redwing leather boots that look just like them, only tan. Steve is going to miss deer hunting huh? K3...I wouldn't pay the 1% interest either, is that property tax? What are you having done with your knee? Carol Sue...I made those fries Wednesday night and they are too herb-y for us. DH likes them better with just garlic salt. Me too. You might want to cut down on the amount you toss the fries in. How many of you are 'receipt savers'? I save all mine and put in individual files. Yesterday with DH gone, I went thru them early and tossed most of the grocery receipts. I usually do that at the end of the year. Around here, if you take something back to a store without the receipts, they give you a sale price back or even clearance prices. Cajun...Yup, we are a very caring group. Quote:
Have a great day everyone, I have about a dozen Facebook games going at one time. I need to take my turns and see who I can out smart today. I play Scrabble, Words with Friends and Word Twist. Love them and they keep my mind active. |
Bobbi - The word to describe me is "recipe hoarder." First of all, I have a recipe file in Microsoft Word where I put all the recipes I copy from the internet. I have been doing that since 2000, and I back it up occasionally on my jump drive. Then I have a collection of cookbooks that have overrun my step-daughers old room. Over 50 cookbooks. Then, I have tons of recipes that I cut out of magazines etc. Several file folders full of them. Do I cook these recipes? Rarely. I don't know why I do this, but here's a clue. My mother did the same thing, cutting them out of magazines etc. When she passed away, I found the box of recipes and that was the first thing I removed from her home. At least my mother would try a lot of the recipes!
Carbie - I am amazed at all the things you do. I am beginning to think that this is because you were raised a "country girl." Rie is the same way, and she was a country girl, and Bobbi, who lives in the country, is similar. I am a little "princess" who can't do a darn thing. One time my husband was hospitalized and I was appalled when I realized the next day was garbage day and I had to take it out to the curb! I grew up in the city. Not a big city, but a little city outside of Pittsburgh. We had sidewalks, and everyone walked to the little neighborhood school, grocery stores, churches. Cars were not needed, because the bus ran right through town in case you wanted to go "downtown." I am deathly afraid of any animal except my 10 lb Maltese. Several years ago, my step daughter coaxed us to go to the county fair in the next county. I don't know what I expected, but the smell just about killed me. I couldn't wait to get out of there. LOL I saw these little kids, 10-12 years old, barefoot, dragging their cow up to the milking station. "How can people live like this?" We went back the next year, and now I'm used to it and we go every year. I even entered an afghan and won 4th prize. But I still don't know how to do anything. I have no idea how to start the lawnmower, or even where to put the gas, for that matter. If there's more snow than the broom can handle, I'm lost. If anything ever happens to my husband, I'll be in assisted living. Well, my cardiologist called and changed my appointment from 3PM to 1:45 so I have to go get a shower. Have a good day everyone! |
Fantastic
u are an inspiration:carrot:

Morning......Sorry if I sounded heartless yesterday about the Sandy survivors, but I grew up in Jersey and we had alot of storms back then. The blizzard of '48 we were without power for 10 days. We built our 1st house with things like drains in the lines so if we lost power we could drain the water out of the radiators. Hurricane Hazel blew a path thru us.....Have lived in huricane country my whole life and past 30+yrs at sea level on a flood plain. You all have teased me about my plans and preps but they work. The scarest thing I'm reading about is the gangs are taking over areas and helping themselves to stuff....The smells and waste that is floating in the cities must be awfull and disease can't be far behind. We have already sent a check to The Salvation Army because they will get stuff directly to the survivors. I can still see them handing out clean socks and tooth brushes to workers after 9/11....and hot meals in N/O.
I have dear friends and family on the Shore and waiting for word about one son who took his fishing boat out to sea to ride out the storm. That is standard practice and even the USN does that...couldn't get me on one of those boats/ships.Nope no way. How can people like Bette Meddler have a hugh Halloween party while so many are suffering just blocks away.....something like "let themeat cake" rings my bell. And now they are having the NYC Marathon which starts on Staten Island where people are still buried in muck and without power???? ARRRRRRRRGH Okay rant over...I am ticked off and don't feel better but at least I said my piece. k3 Oh but one more rant. Gov Christie brags about "Union" busting and then turns away linemen from Ala because they are nonUnion.....what! |
Quick hola.... just checking in, which seems to be something foreign these days... I am the Empress of Ennui!
Cajun - are you LOVING having your son home? Is he home to stay, I hope? KarenFL - your rant wasn't. It was common sense. CarolSue - I had to chuckle delicately at your post. I related to your recipe hoarder description... I, too, LOVE recipes; however, I use very few because anything with more than 4-5 ingredients has too many ingredients! Nothing going on. I'm glad it's Friday! It's still quite nice here, cloudy and cool today. I like this and am SO glad to live in Denver! The weather here is almost always better than anyone else's (!)... Yes, we have fires in the summer and a couple (if we're lucky) storms in winter; otherwise, it's really nice. Hope you all have a good weekend. Later, lovelies! |
Hi everyone -
I've composed 3 posts and I can't get my puter to "copy" anymore so I keep losing them. Thanks to everyone for wisdom, support and hugs. I have to figure out this darn computer. Hugs. |
Hello Everyone!
I thought I would stop in here tonight because I have been neglecting you all. I have been having a crazy work week and I am in the midst of a Lupus flair. Fevers and sore joints. Today was the start of the MT state 8 ball tourney. The team event started today and tomorrow starts singles. I asked that they take me out of the calcutta because my hands are hurting so much and I don't want anyone to bet on me. Typing doesn't bother me but I can't lift or carry anything. :( I had two table runs today but then I also had some horrible games. My team didn't win but we had fun. There are players here from all over the state and it was so much fun to see all my friends from all over. A young guy on my team said, "everyone hugs you!" It was really nice. There are some really nice people in pool. I am having a hard time picking up the balls and putting them in the rack. A couple of times today, one or another of the guys just walked up and put the balls in the rack for me. Aren't they nice? Of course, I always think I am hiding it from everyone.... Karen, I share some of your sentiment. We just don't have much in the way of disasters up here except for wildfires. We are always prepared for blizzards and loss of power. It happens alot. My friends always say that they will head for my place if the "end of civilization as we know it" happens. I have a reputation as a "prepper" and I have a lot of old-school tools, etc that will see my family through. Of course, that is also a farm girl mentality. ;) Cajun, I am so happy for you. And yes, the goldens are such a support. Empress Donna (yes, you now have a new name from me) I always think how lucky we are to be up here near the rockies. Heaven! Rosey, I love the new boots and I am totally jealous. Gayle, yes, follow your own wisdom. Our children will use the lessons that we taught them. Dee.:hug::hug::hug:. That is all I have to say... CarolSue, I was tickled by your post. Us farm girls have our own world....LOL I laughed really hard at your description of the eau de fair time. Doesn't stink to me....:D Carbie, I am so impressed with your home repairs. I can fix most anything but I am lousy at stuff in the house and I would never tackle any remodeling. Bobbi, this winter we will have to start a wordswithfriends game. I only play in the winter. Enjoy your time. My DIL is back in grand forks, without ds and gabriel. She is lamenting how lonely she is.... I must be weird - I always enjoyed my "me" time. I miss Isabella too! I hope she is lurking here and doing ok. Sorry for missing folks. This is it from my hands. Think about me tomorrow - wish me luck cuz I will need it. I will probably have to drink extra wine to stay in the games. It is a sacrifice that I am prepared to make! Rie |
hey Rie....thank you I am a country girl right down to my bare feet. Explains alot about me. k3

Good evening (oops I mean morning) GG’s,
Well, it is still my evening. Head games ~ LOL. Not morning until I go to bed and then wake up. Yippee ~ made it to the weekend. This stretch of days wasn’t too bad. Wish I had gotten out on time tonight though. Didn’t get my bicycle ride in. DS Jason was here ~ DH had been helping him with his yearly sign up for benefits at work stuff. DS was still here when I got home, so got to have a nice visit with him. It was funny ~ DS called me on my way home ~ wondering why I wasn’t home yet and checking to make sure I was ok. Sometimes I am pushing on at work not wanting to stop even long enough to send a text to let them know I will be late, heaven forbid that I should take long enough to do that and delay my departure by even a few seconds ~ LOL. He said to me ~ why do I feel like the parent? Nice to know someone worries about me. I needed to stop at Walmart on the way home for a couple grocery items. I was yaking with mom on the phone and missed my turn and didn’t even realize it until I was by my driveway ~ I didn’t even pull in, just kept going and headed back to Walmart. I would rather go while I am already out than to have to waste time tomorrow and make a trip back out. I was talking with Mom and taking a trip down memory lane. One of my HS classmates passed away this week. Sad ~ so young. We have lost several already ~ too young. Thinking of him and other classmates brought back lots of fun memories of that time in my life. Our HS class (the class of “73” ) is starting to make plans for our 40th class reunion. Wow ~ where has the time gone? Doesn’t seem like that long. Still haven’t gotten the personals done as I had hoped to. Darn work ~ gets in the way of having fun. Oh well…… Guess I’d better get off to bed. Got a ton of stuff to do this weekend. Hope you all have a good rest and a good weekend. Take care |

Donna, I understand about more than 4 or 5 ingredients. I start reading a recipe and get bored halfway through the list of ingredients and set it aside. Cajun - So happy your son is home! Give him a hug from me. Bobbi - Thanks for the heads up about the season fries. I will "lightly season". I do that with a lot of things. DH will only eat MY pumpkin pie because I use half the amount of spices called for in the recipe. My family loves it that way. Gayle - You're such a youngster! My 50th reunion is next year. I have never attended one. A friend is trying to talk me into going, but they hang with the in-crowd....the cheerleaders and football players....they didn't know I was alive. We shall see. I might go, just to show them how great I turned out! LOL My cardiologist visit went well. My Echo was good, translated to "The valve is still stiff, but has not worsened in the past 3 echos." He is not concerned about the palpitations and spiking heart rates but to be sure is going to have me wear a 30 day monitor. From what I've read online it will be a pain in the butt, but much better than spending time in ICU. |
Good morning Goldies!
I was up a bit later than usual last night and must have fallen asleep rather quickly and I don't think I moved at all during the night. I slept hard, and was in the same position upon awakening as when I laid down. I feel really rested too. Good thing because my youngest son and his family came down from the Twin Cities last night and will be in town for the weekend. Of course, they wont be at my house all the time though because they are staying at one of my other sons' houses and the guys are going deer hunting. The DIL's are going shopping, (and God knows what else!) Ha! maybe a couple of drinks while they're at it. The oldest grandson will be hunting with the guys, and the two 15-year olds are going to spend today with me. They're going to rake my leaves while I run my lawn mower out of gas (so it doesn't get gummed up) to store it for the winter, and I need to get my snow blower out and make sure it's in good running condition. I'm just making hamburgers and fries for the boys for lunch. Maybe make pork chops for dinner tomorrow for everyone, depending on how early they get done hunting. I'm hoping that they all fill out today and have time to visit tomorrow before going back home, but, I know that's not likely. Gayle, I can relate to the head games about it still being the same day as long as you're still awake. Ha! Working 3 = 11, I always had to wind down for a couple of hours before going to bed. One woman I worked with on 3-11 would drive home, clean up and be sleeping by midnight. I always had too many things to think through. Just in case I may have missed something. Ha! Karen3, I'm in agreement with you about people getting prepared for these disasters. I think that they think these forecasters are exaggerating and it's not going to be really that bad. We didn't even have electricity in our house until I was about 10 yrs old, and we used kerosene lamps for light and Mom cooked and baked with a kerosene cook stove. We used coal and wood for heat, and Minnesota had some wicked winters back then. We had canned vegetables from the garden and didn't worry about the meat because if we ran out, we had chickens, geese and ducks that we raised. Every once in a while the darned pump would freeze up and they'd have to pull the thing apart. We kinda lived off the land, really. Hunting and fishing. I used to help Dad with the set lines, spearing carp and smoking them, then selling them. People, especially farmers, LOVED smoked fish so we sold a lot of it. Dad worked, but he was a drinker too and sometimes would be gone on a drunk for a week or more. Now that I'm grown, I suspect he did more than drink during those absences. :nono: Anyway, I remember of us kids going up into the woods and snaking down fallen tree limbs and helping Mom on a 2-man saw cutting them up. I digress, ... meant to say we were usually prepared for bad weather. Rie, I didn't realize you have Lupus. My heart goes out to you with the flairs. One of my BIL's has Lupus and a girl I grew up with has it too. She had the butterfly rash on her cheeks and nose, but my BIL didn't. However, he had to wear a hat whenever out in the sun. (they're divorced now, hence, I say "had". I never did learn how to shoot pool. I don't think I have the skill or the knack for it, plus, I gave up on my first try because a boyfriend chewed me out for flipping the ball right off the table on my first shot. I'm not one to give up so I suspect it wasn't of interest to me to begin with. I admire people who CAN do it. It has to take a lot of skill in my estimation. Anyway, I wish you luck in the tournaments. As for home repairs, I think that developed out of necessity after my husband died. What puts me at a loss is anything mechanical. I'm borderline stupid with mechanics, mostly. Dee, I hope you got your computer convinced to cooperate with you. That's another thing I'm not real good at. I understand a little more as time goes by, but it's a good thing my one son is brilliant with computers is all I've got to say. Ha! Donna, I believe you about Colorado being so beautiful. I haven't been there but from news shots, and talking with people who have been there, I hear only good. Ennui? Maybe it's the SAD? Hello Mayqueen60. WELCOME! Hope you stay. These ladies are so very nice! Tell us a little about yourself. Carol Sue, my head was back laughing at the ceiling picturing you at the fair etc. I can picture you wheeling the trash out using thumb and forefinger with gloves on and holding your nose with the other hand. :lol3: You are too funny! You could, and would do most anything if you had to. (But I'd sure love to be a fly on the wall watching it take place!) LOL Bobbi, .... those games you play, ..... Are they free? And, how do you find them and how do you learn how to play them? Sounds like fun when the snow is blowing and I'm bored. And believe me, I need all the help I can get to improve my mind! ;) Rosey, RE: making yourself a top etc, .... That's what I'd like to do once I get this painting etc done in my house. I need some tops for winter especially. I also want to make myself some flannel pajamas, with feet in. My winter pajamas right now consists mostly of sweat suits. Good job finding those boots. I didn't realize your husband had had surgery. I hope he fully recovers and gets stronger. Thinking good thoughts for both of you. Cajun, I know you're busy with your son being home finally. I hope you're enjoying your weekend. Isabella, drop in and say "Hey!" I know you have to be a very nice person because everyone misses you so much. Hope you're having a great weekend. Decorlover, Hope you're having a nice weekend. Angela, where have you gotten to? Hope you're not too tired from all that running to stop in. Let us know how it's going. I know I've probably missed some, but I need to get moving here. Haven't even dressed yet, plus I want to stop at the bank and the store before I go pick up my Grandsons. Have a great day and weekend everyone! ..... |
Carol Sue ~ I went to our classes 10th and 20th reunions. They didn’t do one at 25 or 30 years. You might go and find that it is not as bad as you think. At the 10th year one ~ people talked to me who I don’t think ever talked to me during HS. It was like becoming grown ups was kind of a “leveler”. We were kind of all facing the same things ~ work, kids etc.
Even though I had that experience at the 10th year one ~ I still a little bit, feel like you. I was not one of the in crowd (more like an invisible person) and kind of feel like no one will even notice if I don’t go. I told one of my friends that I sort of wanted to go and was sort of chicken to go. She said to me: Some of the stuff and junk we experienced as young graduates are gone. People are really anxious to reconnect and priorities change with age and life happenings so I do hope you do decide to come. Life is too short not to take opportunities to connect with people you know. Trust me. You don't know when it is your last time. She feels that way I think ~ because she came home from church one Sunday to find her husband (in his 40’s) in his recliner and he had ~ with no warning ~ passed away.:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: @ your gutter mind comment. Ok, I have played around too long already ~ I'd better get to busy. Hello to everyone else ~ I'm sure I'll need a break later ;) so will check back. Beautiful sunny day here ~ hope everyone else is having a nice day. |
"Hey!"
It's not that I've got nothing to post, it's because I'm so busy these days (eating nightly for the last 2 months). Grrrrrr....all that hard work gone down the tubes...again. And I've forsaken my bike!!!! Actually, I've been keeping fairly busy this fall. I used to take my friend Ruth shopping a couple of times a month but now that's grown to my DIL's mother and my MIL as well. Those are marathon shopping trips which leave me drained the next day. Whatever happened to all my youthful energy when I could shop til I dropped? Now I drop when I shop! Last month, we (my husband's family) planned my MIL's 80th birthday party. We had about 70 guests with family and friends. My SIL did the cutest teabag favors and I covered chocolate bars with new wrappers with MIL's picture and a thank you note for everyone attending. With gifts and money she raked in about $900. Not bad for someone who won't go to anyone else's parties. Tonight our church ladies are hosting a baby shower for our pastor's wife. I've been doing some cooking and baking for that as well as planning games and prizes. Next month I, along with my DIL's mother, will be hosting a baby shower for my DIL. I also have a church Christmas musical program to plan and get practiced. I'm still singing at funerals and church benefit gospel concerts. I go from periods of being no more active than a slug to being in a whirlwind of activity. I don't eat as much when busy but when I'm in the slug mode all I do is eat. I thought potato chips were my nemesis (which they are) but I've discovered I'm willing and able to eat through the cupboards and frig when nothing else is available. Yesterday, I decorated the sweetest (literally) baby shower cake. It looks like a patchwork quilt with a pair of booties on top. I'll see if I can post a picture later on. I also made the most adorable baby girl and boy cookies for shower favors. I'll post those also. Well, I feel better all ready just by writing this all down. :) We're having unusually nice weather for this time of the year, although it's been raining for almost a week, it's been nice and mild. I'm going to try and get on more often as it's good for me. Love you all. xoxoxoxo |
Hi Golden Girls - This is one of the posts I couldn't post. I'll add on.
You are a breath of fresh air. Thank you for all of your support and encouragement.A lot of people just don’t understand the difficulties of dealing with parents with Alzheimer’s/dementia - one of my closest friends, made me feel worse than anybody. She wasn't trying to. Someone said that it’s like a gradual, steady mourning because you are, in fact, losing the person that you have known and loved. Carbie - thanks for the information and reassurance. I went for 3 days without calling my parents. Called yesterday and talked to my mom. Things are so-so. I guess that’s pretty good. I am going to give them time to adjust. Cajun - so glad your son is home! Enjoy! Give him a hug from us and tell him that the Golden Girls were praying for him - and you. I hope they get to the bottom of that dangerous situation. Karen FL - I would love to adopt you! You are brilliant and funny. You are, and always will be, sharper than I am! Oh, and your DH too. My DH gets grumpy sometimes and I say, "You are turning into a cranky old man." My son, who is the fire fighter made a comment about NJ. When the people who are told to evacuate, don't, they are putting the rescuers at unnecessary risk. I hadn't thought about that. Gayle - hope your daughter is feeling better. It’s so good that you are there for her and Maddie. I love that your son was worried about you and felt like "the parent!" Adorable. How old is he? Is there any hope of my boys developing that trait? Of even knowing where I am? It's not looking good. Bobbi, Donna, Isabelle - your lives are not boring! Actually, a few years ago when a friend asked me how everything was, I told her, “The same, nothing to report, kind of boring.” She was quick to contradict me but I told her, “I’m happy. Boring is good! It’s just I have nothing to report so it may sound boring but I’m not bored.” We really like to hear anything you wish to tell us. I might be a little worried about Isabelle. Have to read all the posts. Rie - Hope you don’t have many cases of whooping Cough to deal with. I remember when my oldest was a senior in college, 2008 ?, his generation needed another booster for whooping cough. My youngest was home so I got him to the doctor. I kept calling and nagging the elder. Even sent him a news clipping about how he needed it. His school medical was giving them out for free. It would have been easy to do. Finally, I told him he had to come home for the weekend and get it. And it turned out his girlfriend had whooping cough already! I don’t like that I’m always right - it just happens so much! So he did get the booster shot and did not get WC. Do they think the kids need an extra booster? Good luck in the tournament. So sorry your hands hurt. Most important thing is you're having fun. Carole Sue - so glad you weren’t hit by the storm. Mary - your new picture is beautiful. It sounds like you’re doing a little better and have meds for it. I was so down a few minutes ago. I need to find some joy and fulfillment. Maybe some volunteer thing, if this old body can handle it. Hugs, hugs, hugs to you all!!! |
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH....HE TURNED THE CLOCKS BACK ALREADY k3

Carbie..come join me on Facebook. You can 'private message' me your name and I'll look you up. It's all free and if you like to play scrabble, you'll like all the scrabble games. The best part about them is you play when you feel like it. I play a word in the morning and one at night. Sometimes I get a word in at noon if I eat my lunch in front of the computer. We don't play a whole game at one time.
|
okay - I keep getting message that I'm not logged on 3fc. I wanted to try something fancy- quote part of Isabella's post but i Imessed that up.
Isabella - yes! It's not just the potato chips (or chocolate)> when we're in the mood, which for me is every night, anything will do as long as it's not a vegetable that is good for me! Good to hear from you. |
Happy Sunday everyone.
My SIL is having a birthday dinner today, I've been on no dairy and no gluten for the past 4 days. It would be rude of me not to eat so I'll participate. I don't think I feel any different after being on the gluten/dairy program, not enough time yet? Bruce came home early after my urging. Say What? He called yesterday morning, had a sore throat because the heater ran out of fuel and he darn near froze to death. He had more fuel with him but he was so cold he didn't want to get out of his sleeping bag. Then around noon he walked back from his deer stand to warm up in the truck. He heard sirens and saw many squad cars and flashing lights in the parking lot where 5 other vehicles were parked. (all hunters with extra guns/rifles and ammo, hunting gear, etc. in their vehicles.) The park ranger scared off a bunch of Indians who had vandalized 4 of the vehicles. They must have used a bat to smash through the windows, stripped all 4 vehicles of radios/cd players, all their extra guns, ammo, EVERYTHING. If the ranger hadn't come by, Bruce and one other guy's would have been next. Bruce was parked at the end, thank goodness. The young deer hunter parked next to him was from Minneapolis, loaded up and left. I urged Bruce to do the same, especially since he had a sore throat. The sheriff said all the Indians in the area think they don't have to obey the laws, they shoot game whenever they feel like it because it's their land. I suppose they thought they could help themselves to everyone's gear/guns and destroy what they wanted to. DH said they have a very big drinking problem up in that area, I'm sure the gear will be sold so they'd have some drinking money. That would have been a very expensive hunt if his jeep was vandalized. We have $500.00 deductible insurance and his spare rifle would have been gone too. Thank you Jesus was looking after Bruce! Bruce is going to hunt around here, not as many deer but at least his vehicle will be safe. Later gators. |
Good Morning Goldies!
Oh my aching back and butt! I think I over did it yesterday. I think I'm so smart and able to do just about anything I want to, but I seem to prove myself wrong more and more often. I "cleaned" my shed yesterday. Organized things, because I can't stand having to search for things. I want them right where I left them, and after a summer of fishing often with my one grandson, he put things back into the shed in a haphazard way and had winter stuff(shovels etc mixed with fishing poles and minnow buckets etc. So, now I have the grill, camp chairs, fishing poles, lawn mower etc all lined up on one side of the shed, rakes hung up, potting soil, hoe, etc in a group, and snow blower, shovels etc together on the other side, and floor swept nice and clean. Also knocked down 2 small wasp nests. How do they build them so fast??? Couldn't get my lawn mower started so I'll take it to Jim, a guy who I have do yearly tune-ups on my lawn mower and snow blower. He only charges about $10.00 and it's worth it for a new filter, plug etc. Anyway, when I got done with that I decided to start raking and by doing so maybe speed up the boys who were raking but doing a lot of girl watching too and I wanted to get it all done in one day. 4 hours of that and I was pretty sore. Took Ibuprofen a couple times yesterday and this AM, so I'm sure it will improve. Did you all set your clocks back last night? We all know Karen3's were set back for her. :D I laughed so hard at your post. Such a helpful hubby. Dee, good to hear that your parents are getting settled in a bit. It takes time, and you need to take a break too so you can de-stress and take care of you and hubby. One of my sisters has Alzheimers, early stage, too and her hubby has been taking care of her, but, he's 84 yrs old and has really bad knees, and recently he told his youngest son that he doesn't know how much longer he can care for her at home. She's going to be a hard one to take care of too because she doesn't trust anyone. Although she has already told her kids that she will some day have to go into a nursing home. So sad, isn't it? She is the first person ever in our family as far back as we can tell, who has had Alzheimers. I think it's due more to her diabetes than anything. Got to go get dressed etc. Everyone have a great day. Stay positive! Go for a walk or something today. It's 30 degrees here right now, and the sun is out. Nice day for a walk later. ..... |
Good morning GG's,
A nice sunny day here today. Love that sunshine. Got my kitchen table cleaned off ~ again. It is the spot where stuff gets set ~ until there is time to deal with it ~ and the stack builds up and builds up. Oh well. It is cleaned off for now. K3 ~ these helpful hubbys :dizzy: Isabella ~ glad you stopped in for a visit ~ even if you don't have anything much to post about it is good to hear from you and know that you are ok. Bobbi ~ glad Bruce is ok and back home safe and sound. Carbie ~ I think you still can do anything you want to ~ maybe you just need to slow it down a little ~ take some breaks. Take good care of you. Deelee ~ {{{{{hugs}}}}} Take care of you. Off to do more stuff. Will check back later. Hope you all are having a nice weekend. |
Hey Golden Chicks -
I'm starting to feel better. All my venting on here to people who understand helped me so much as did your comments on how I'm doing the right thing and that the DPs will adjust - and so did the hugs! I don't know how I would have gotten through it. Bobbi - Kind of amazing that your DH got a sore throat, ran out of fuel and listened to you! Seriously, I'm so glad your DH avoided all that trouble. My shoulder is feeling a lot better so I'm going to start doing a little recumbent biking at HC. I haven't been their since before my surgery. The shoulder hurt for so long that I didn't even want to do lower body because any movement caused it to hurt. I seemed to have turned the corner with that. Ah, I read the schedule wrong. The Bears are on now. I thought they were playing at 3 p.m. No cursing coming from family room. They must be winning. Funny how when important life changes are going on some things lose their importance to me. Not DH though! Thanks to every one! Hugs! TTYL. |
Good afternoon...Back in the 80's and sun is so bright am typing with sun glasses on. BUT look out there is a Nor'easter heading for the area that Sandy hurt so bad last week and is due Wednesday. OMG I thought when we had 2 back to back hurricanes that was a 1 in 100 possiblity. Can't imagine how hard this will be on folks.
Isabella....You my dear are good...you have a habit of just returning before we send Donna searching. Rie...I heard that DGS hugs actually allievete all symptoms of lupus. Rx dozens of daily hugs. Gayle...., Be nice to DS remember some day he will be picking out the nursing home for you! Carbie....Cleaning a shed? He// come clean my kitchen! Rosey...I love love the boots! Bobbi....How did you get him to listen? I'll pay good money for that secret, Carol Sue...Since I have a bovine valve I really understand what you are saying. I chose bovine instead of mechanical because I didn't want to stay on counadin/tests forever. Love saying watch out because I'm tough and have the heart of a Bull! snort snort Must admit I am a news junkie and following the election news on 10 sites and the hurricane on another half doz.....Won't inflict my politics on anyone and glad we keep this site free. BUt don't disturb me Tuesday night. Say a prayer for the people in the midAtlantic area and that the 2nd storm fizzles,,,,k3 |
I don't ever post here so I don't know you guys. But I knew exactly who and what Karen3 was talking about when I saw her argggh - you are hilarious Karen3!

Good Morning girls, jumped on the scale and my gluten free, dairy free week helped me lose a couple of pounds. I'm happy to go back to wheat and foods that are not gluten free. A pain in the butt for anyone who has to follow that food plan.
Last night I made pizza with white flour in the crust and I enjoyed it like never before. I made my portion with zucchini, low fat pepperoni, 1 wedge of laughing cow light blue cheese and 1 wedge light Queso Fresco & Chipotle. K3...it was a no brainer. He didn't dare leave his jeep and go back into the woods. They might come back and finish vandalizing it or any new vehicles. It was a state park where he was hunting but the entire park is surrounded by American Indian land. Quote:
Hope everyone gets out to vote tomorrow, have a good one. |
K3 - My step son got a mechanic valve but he was only 43 and they gave him no choice. They say that the coumadin will be replaced with something better one of these days. We'll see.
I ended up in the ER overnight. When I went to bed, my heart started continuous fluttering. This went on for 1/2 hour. When DH came to bed, I got up and checked my BP and it was 220/79 and I felt nauseated. I told him to call the ambulance. By the time I got to the hosp, the fluttering had greatly slowed down, but the BP was still too high. We waited 2 hours for the results of bloodwork and Xrays and by that time the BP was back to normal. They found nothing, except my thyroid is high, which probably didn't have anything to do with the fluttering. They sent me home and told me to tell the cardiologist about what happened so he knows before he orders the monitor. When I got home at 3 AM I went back to bed, and the fluttering started all over again. I propped another pillow behind me and it stopped. At the hospital, they had the head of the bed raised, so that's why it stopped at the hospital. So now I know it's when I lie down flat on either my back or side. I remember before my mother passed away, she used to sleep in her recliner. I thought she had acid reflux, but maybe she got fluttering, too. And life goes on. |
Good morning goldens
We had a wonderful time for ds's party. He was giving everyone a bear hug. Saturday morning we got up and went to the camp. He hunted all weekend and had a blast. Saturday afternoon I finally relaxed. No more stress. He goes back to work tomorrow. Thank y'all for all the hugs and prayers. I told him about y'all and all the hugs I was giving him were from y'all. He said yea right mom. Lol. I hugged every chance I got. When he saw his brother the first time they hugged and it brought tears to my eyes. Them 2 boys are very close. They hunted together all weekend. On another note I must have had a really good time this weekend. I got on the scale and gained 8 lbs. I think it's excessive amount for the weekend but it is what the scale said. Maybe some fluid and it is my monthly cyle time. I don't want to go back so today I'm putting the brakes on my eating. Even though we are camping. I'll have to do better. Pray that I can get back on tract. I have lots to pick up in the house after the party Friday and we left it to go to the camp. We got back at dark last night and I'm facing that this morning. So I'll have to get busy. Personals will have to come later. Hugs Cajun |
Hola, Lovelies…
I’m actually going to try to do personals. It’s a gorgeous day! I have nothing of any excitement to say, but whatEVER, right? Right! Dee – do you have a new computer? You seem to be unduly frustrated by yours. Has anyone used the new Windows 8? I’ve been told it’s horrendous and actually needs tutorial help. It’ll be a long while before I get another computer, so the bugs will be worked out by then, I hope. Are your parents doing okay now? Until they’ve lived it, no one has the slightest idea how hard it is to deal with elderly parents. I always love it when some little 30-ish social worker type has advice. Bah! Rosey – you aren’t posting much these days. Is it because you’re out dancing in your pink boots? That image makes me smile inside. How is Steve doing? How is Toots? Are you ready yet for another little puppy? Gayle – doing okay? When is your class reunion? Maybe I haven’t gotten that far yet; I’ve had to go way back on these posts! CarolSue – my 8th grade (OMG) class had a reunion back in 2003, the 40th. It was SO much fun! Almost everyone attended (one was an out-of-stater and one was deceased). We went to a Catholic school, and I and one other woman were the only harlots in the group (i.e., divorced). The others were all still practicing Catholics with a LOT of kids. Fun. Carbie – you’re always so busy. It’s nice that your kids are close enough to visit, and it does sound like you enjoy them. And I hadn’t thought about SAD, although I did suffer from that back in the olden days when I worked graveyard shift for so many years. Since I don’t go outside unless I have to and spend all day in an office, I suppose SAD might be something to think about; I figured I was just bored! Isabella – hola! I’m always glad to see your lovely face! Bobbi – so glad Bruce’s truck and stuff were spared! That’s scary AND maddening! Is he feeling better, now that he’s home in the veritable bosom of the family? I hope the BIL is okay! Cajun – I know you’re still in 7th heaven with your son being home. Where is he working now? Will he be staying home now? Nothing much to report. It’s GORGEOUS here, and we’re having such a lovely fall. I’m thinking good thoughts for the NorthEast folks and hope that no more storms hit them. I heard that there’s a nor’easter headed their way, but I hope it changes its mind! Be safe! Better get back to work. It’s almost tummy time, so I think I’ll do that first! Later, lovelies!:hug: :hug: |
Good evening GGs. I'm going to ramble, so feel free to skip over this post, lol.
This morning I woke up on the couch...again...I can't seem to get to bed and have gotten into the awful habit of watching tv late at night while lying on the couch. I blame it all on DH who goes to bed soon after my day starts, lol. He's up quite early (before the crack of dawn now that it's almost winter) and goes to bed early. I, on the other hand, get a second wind around 9 pm and can actually start doing a little house cleaning or some little project that needs done. Then I sit down to relax before going to bed. I watch tv and fall asleep. Sometimes I wake up around 2 or 3 am and drag my body into the bed. I'm just in a wonderful dream or some kind of deep sleep when he wakes up and may even start to chat. He gets up, clunks around the bedroom and bathroom and and then gets his breakfast. I fall asleep again and he goes to work. Years ago I used to read in bed before I fell asleep but it's been years as DH is asleep so early. I feel as if I don't have a bedroom...and then we only have a double bed and I'm clinging on to edge until he gets up in the morning. I've put an end to that problem this morning. I ordered a new queen size bed set. DH doesn't know about that yet. I'll just surprise him when it arrives. I actually woke up this morning feeling as if I had no purpose in life (today) and that I might as well roll over and go back to sleep. (It's the calm after the busy time last week--slug mode.) But I fought that feeling and got out of bed, looked on Sears website and ordered the bed set. Then I got dressed and went shopping--all by myself--with no one trailing after me and no one to look after. I had a wonderful day buying new sheets and a lovely blanket for the new bed. I also had a very unsuccessful hunt for vanilla bean paste that was supposed to be on sale at one of the grocery stores. I must have had half a dozen people scurrying around the store looking for it. One of the girls even said if it came in she'd put a bottle of it away for me. It was disappointing not getting the paste but rather gratifying to have that much positive attention from store staff. I must email the company and give the staff a pat on the back and blast the company for not having the paste in stock, lol. I bought some junky stuff for my DGS. Ha, ha. It's for his Christmas bag which is actually my way of giving him a Christmas stocking without competing with his parents. If it's in a bag, it's not a stocking. It's just stuff he can play with and then his parents can throw it out as it will break or wear out soon after using--a dinosaur egg that hatches in a glass of water, a knock-off chia pet that grows grass seed, a Christmas Santa apron, a reindeer (not a real one!!!) on which I will glue a little red pom-pom to its nose, and other stuff to amuse a 3 1/2 year old for a few minutes. You know at that age they only play with things for a minute or two and then go back to their old favorites. Of course, we'll give him a real gift also (something substantial that won't break). I was going to buy myself a new scarf but forgot and by the time I remembered I was tired and didn't want to retrace my steps down the mall. I'm assuming I won't find anything I like now that I'm looking so it's just as well I didn't go back to look. Next time I see something I like I'll just buy it instead of saying I'll get it later. I'm eating way too much food. I have to start by not eating at night. So tonight I'm going to try and stay away from the kitchen cupboards and frig. I should actually tidy up the kitchen but may just leave it until the morning. I have no problem overeating in the morning. I eat breakfast and am fine until dinner (lunch). Maybe, I'll just quickly close the dishwasher and hang up a couple of dishtowels. Now, a few personals from memory, (rolls eyes--what memory?) Bobbi, glad you DH was not hurt or his truck vandalized. I imagine he's just thawing out by now. I've had a few freezing camping trips like that--too cold to get up and too cold to stay in the sleeping bag. Karen3, I like Donna but I certainly don't want her to come after me and give me a good shaking. Donna, read the above note to Karen. I like seeing your lovely face, too, but it's been replaced by a cute little "harlot" grub. Gayle, I hear you on the table. I think I have a full room like that. My mother's old room has now become the catch-all place...sigh...got to get that cleaned out...again. Rosey, love those pink boots. I'd buy them if I saw them and they felt good on my delicate feet. Have a lovely evening lovely ladies. |
Hi. I'm still crazy busy. My p.t,. my mother - foot doctor, and DH and I are goigt to be election judges tomorrow! Our first time. there is a lot to know. we took online course and test then In person 3 hour class. I've been studying tonight. We have to be at the poll by 5:15a.m.
at the latest and we will be there until everything's packed up. I hope to be out of there by 8 p.m. I feel good about it. It's a small but important part of the process to make sure that everyone can vote. Learning all the minutia, put form c into yellow envelope 4 in the red file...Hope I don't mess up. I'll be thinking of you all tomorrow. Than I have to get my house in order to hostes 16 women for Bunko. Like to have the house immaculate but don't think I'll have the energy for that. Might just be one of those throw all the junk in bin and hide in closet or under beds! And while my cohostess will be bringing the major snacks, I have to provide the table snacks. They all want chocolate covered somethings. I'm going to have celery sticks, baby carrots, slice red and green pepper. snow peapods, any suggestions? Donna - I don't have a new computer, just an old brain. It seems like every once in a while everything just gets gunked up, moving slow and stops doing what it was that I want it to do, Isabella - you must have a very comfy couch. DH and I have different internal clocks. I'm more early to bed, sort of early to rise. He's like you. can pick up a project and keep on working on it for hours. I was asking for different rooms. We had a queensize bed. Friend said get the king, it makes a difference, We did and it does. We also discuss things like, no shuffling. pick up you darn feet. And if i woke you up when I got up don't wait until I'm almost back to sleep before the prostate shuffle starts. You can work things out usually. I'd start with the kingsize bed. And then with my shoulder surgery I couldn"t hold a book to read in bed so I had to turn the tv on. Steve got some ear plugs. Compromise. |
