Carbie--- I want some of your energy!!! That is truly amazing that you have done all this by yourself. I need a whole lot of that "know how" along with the energy!!

Still not 100% but feeling better-- if I can just rid of thie cough I think I would be 100%! I went to the store today, the first time I've been out in a week! It felt good but I was sure tired when I got home.

Bobbi, I still like the slimfast shakes but before I got sick I was having a Smoothie I concocted myself... I take frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, vanilla yogurt, diet cran-cherry drink, a little fit of fat free coffee creamer and a bit of Splenda... mix it all in the magic bullet and it is very good. But since I've had this cold drinking something cold hasn't been very welcome so I'm sure I've been off track this past week. Still like a banana, royal chocolate slimfast and fat free milk in the morning. I hate getting sick because you never know what you want and eat everything in sight trying to find it!!! LOL!!!

Sure hope everyone is feeling better. I know I've missed bunches but know that I'm thinking of you.

Carbie - My next WW weigh-in is tomorrow morning (Wednesday). According to my scale at home I lost 1-2 lbs. That 5.4 was the first week, and you usually lose water weight when you first start out. As long as I continue to go down I will try not to worry about how much. Slow weight loss stays gone better than fast weight loss. At least that's what they tell us slow losers, so we don't feel bad. LOL I tried to eat pretty light today, and I won't eat or drink anything before I go for my weigh-in. Whatever it takes!

Donna - I had shingles, too. I started to have pain the evening before Thanksgiving, and I was hosting. The pain was bad, and DH wanted me to go to the ER, but I told him I had all this food to cook and no one else to cook it if I had to be in the hospital and I didn't want to lay in the hospital on Thanksgiving. I suffered through Thanksgiving, and Friday morning I felt better so I told DH I was going to work. He said "Oh no you're not!" And hauled me off to the hospital. I was a mess, because I had had a D&C just a week before and wasn't totally healed. While we were sitting in the waiting room, I got this itchy burning around my waistline. I felt 3 little bumps. When the doc went to examine me he saw the little bumps and asked what they were. I told him they just came out since I got to the ER. He pulled the gown down over me and said "You have shingles!" I took the next week off work because the pain was so bad I couldn't stand to have my clothing against my skin. It's something you just can't explain to anyone. Then I had to go back to work, pain or not, because my PCP would not give me an excuse. I took meds for a while, then the pain gradually went away. My step daughter had shingles when she was in high school and my step son and son in law had them shortly after I had mine.

Bobbi - We have Highmark Freedom Blue. It includes our prescriptions. We had the high deductible plan that we didn't have to pay for, but it backfired because we were both in the hospital, so I think I am going to switch next year to a plan with no deductible. It's like russian roulette. You don't know if you're going to be hospitalized or not. Either way, a $1200 deductible is a drop in the bucket if you are hospitalized. I was in the hospital 13 days both times and that was $$$$$$$$$. I can't seem to go more than a couple months without having something wrong. I keep saying that God's trying to take me home and modern medicine is holding me back! LOL

Hi Girls, Just a quick check in. I got the exercise in today no problem 355 cals /40 min walk/w incline, manage to stay below calorie budget but went over fat gms for the day. Had granola for breakfast, which gave me gas, I might add, all day, it was embarassing and a Vegan burger in a Thins sandwich bread that didn't help the problem. Anyhow end result was I went over. Do you gals maintain a consistent allowance for fat grams? I'm thinking we all do? Time for bed!

Good morning GG's,

Two days down ~ two to go. We have had low census ~ so it has been quiet and not busy ~ not complaining. Never seems to be a happy medium though ~ either way too busy, or quiet to where you wished it was a little busier.

Finally feeling better. Actually rode my bike last night and have tried to allow enough time this morning to walk a few minutes before work. Hoping I have finally hit the right combination of activities and time of day so that I will stick with this. I so need to.

I had an experience with my kitty Meso this morning that made me think of Donna and SamCat. Not as upsetting as Donna's experience but made me worry a little. We have fixed up a spot for Meso in the back room (is inside the house ~ has some cupboards and the freezer) where she stays at night and times when we are not at home. Had to put her there because she had developed a bad habit of sometimes using the edge of the carpet instead of the litter box to urinate. So, in the mornings, she can hear you coming and is waiting at the closed door ~ peeking under ~ waiting to be "sprung". Well, she wasn't waiting there ~ I opened the door and a few minutes had gone by and she still hadn't come out. She is getting older (not as old as SamCat yet) and I worry that one of those times when she doesn't come ~ I will go and look and she will have passed.

Hope those of you who are having those colds or not feeling well ~ will be feeling better today.

I'd so rather stay here and visit ~ but if I want to meet that goal of walking, I'd better get on the ball.

Take care

Weight Watchers weigh-in again this AM. I was right....down 2 more lbs. This is working this time! This probably isn't a good idea, but on weigh-in day I eat a few things I normally avoid. But I get right back on track the next day. Not big time.....like today I had 2 slices of bread instead of 1.

Also, since I have been having some heart palpitations lately I started taking magnesium, until I can get in to see the cardiologist. I was reading today about cravings, and it said that people who crave chocolate can be low in magnesium. I noticed that I haven't even thought about chocolate lately, and I have some Dove chocolate in my cabinet!

Chewy - I don't check my fat grams. I'm sure I eat too many. Fat seems to be in everything. I try to track on FitDay and it calculates fat grams, but some fats are healthy fats. You have to be mostly careful about saturated fats. Mono fats and polyunsaturated are good. It can get so confusing. It doesn't seem as though there are enough minutes in the day to be watching everything.

Carbie...thanks for the web sites for the two insurance plans. I sent for the one kit and took part in the unline form where you just give them your prescriptions and they give you plans and cost. You make me tired with all the work you do and I agree with Donna, enjoy your long post.
Can gab anymore, we were gone all morning and I've much to do now.

Trying to download pics

We'll see how this works. I had forgotten that I got a new computer since I uploaded or downloaded any photos from my camera, and of course this one works differently than the old one. I'm having a heck of a time with it.
So, here goes, ....

A carbie 10-10-2012 03:34 PM

Nope! STILL can't get it. SIGH, .................

jess1 10-10-2012 04:44 PM

Hola!
Day off... lovely. Did some laundry. I have to return some jeans that don't fit and have nothing else of any interest planned.

Gayle - I hope your Meso is okay. These furbabies are worrisome, aren't they? Several of us have elderly babies, and I fear we'll be having group grieving. I know what you mean about thinking you'll just walk in one day and find that the kit has passed. I worry about that with SamCat all the time, and always tell him "don't die until I get home" when I leave for work. My last two kitties died in my arms, and I want that for SamCat, too. They were old, too, 16 and 17.

Bobbi - you asked if that's a current picture of SamCat... yes, it is, about 3-4 months ago.

On that cheery note, I think I'll go watch "The Secret Life of Harriety" from the Browsers. I think it should be fun!

Later, lovelies!!

Good Morning Goldies,
It's a cold dreary kind of day so far here. I have a feeling that we're going to have a much harsher winter this year than last year. It just "feels" like it.

yesterday I did nothing. Sat around all day. Shame on me. Today I need to wipe up my kitchen and dining room floors. I should run down to La Crosse and get some zucchine from the garden, but I think I'll wait till Monday. It's the last day for harvesting and distribution, and the farmers markets and stores always bring loads of veggies to the garden after the weekend too.
Saturday morning I leave for the twin Cities for the weekend.

I don't know what's going on with my computer and camera but I can't get the pics to open onto 3fc for me.

Carol Sue, congratulations on the 2 lb loss. You're doing great!

Maria, you too! It's so hard to have to count grams of anything. The diabetes educators always tell me to count grams of carbs too, and I know it's a tedious thing to do. But, if it works for you, it's a good thing.

Jess, sounds like you had a nice day off. Relaxing, as it should be.

Bobbi, I never know if I'm making too long a msg. I know myself well enough to know that I get pretty wordy if I don't watch it. Hope the ins. ideas helps you some.

Gayle, that was a scare with your Meso.
Glad you're feeling better. You've sure got a good plan going there for exercise. I'm embarrassed to say I have no plan. I just do my work, and sometimes get in the mood to do some exercises, but nowheres near enough.

Karen31, I think that video is just awesome. I got goose bumps. When I was a 1st grader I sang the song just because I had to, but as we get older and find out the true meaning of it, it sure hits home in a different way. When I think of all the sacrifices made to keep that flag flying, it makes me cry.

All the rest of YOU GOLDIES, I have to get busy here and don't have time to write to everyone but know that I'm thinking of you all.
Have a great day everyone! Later! ..... Carbie

If missing after 48 hrs please call out the search dogs...am cleaning the lower reaches of the the refrig...found the dead sea scrolls....k3

Wannabehealthy 10-11-2012 03:50 PM

Donna - I hope Samcat has a lot more time. We have had some dogs live very long lives. One lived to 17 years and one to 19 years. That's very long for dogs, but they were small dogs, and they live longer than big dogs for some reason. The 19 year old dog just died of old age. She was just so weak and getting to the point where she could hardly stand up anymore and I told DH it was time to put her down. I called and made an appointment for the next day, but when I came home from work she was dead. It was just like her...you're not going to put ME to sleep! I'm doing it myself!

A carbie 10-11-2012 04:12 PM

Hi again Goldies,
There was some talk on here a few days ago about the shingles shot.
I called my Dr.s office that day to see if I needed an appt. to get the shot, and the nurse said my Dr would have to give the OK for me to get it. So, today the nurse told me that I could get it, either at their office or at the main clinic at the 1st floor lab.
I called my insurance co. first to make sure it is covered, and they said it is, and it's a $35.00 co-pay at any in-network pharmacy. I told her I had planned on getting it at my Drs office and she said she just wanted to caution me that a lot of times the Drs offices charge extra fees and the patient could end up paying a large amount out of their pocket. She said they have received complaints from customers saying they were charged $300.00 plus, out of pocket, for the shingles shot.
I have UCARE of MN for Seniors for my medicare insurance.
Anyway, I called my Dr.s office back and talked to someone in billing, and she put me on hold after I told her what the insurance company had said. She was gone for a while and returned to say that it was true, ... I'd be better off getting it at an in-network pharmacy because it is very expensive at their (the Dr.s) office. Over $300.00 for my out of pocket share. So, I just thought I'd share that with y'all in case you're thinking of getting the shot. Maybe check with your Dr.s office and the insurance company first so you don't end up paying a big chunk out of pocket.
The nurse also told me it's a lifetime shot. Only one needed.

Karen3, ..... .............. Carbie

Bobbolink 10-11-2012 09:21 PM
