Hi everyone! Dh & I did a funny/dumb thing today. We went to Costco to do our coupon shopping, bought a couple items and got lots of samples, checked out and then found out the coupons don't start until the 10th! We didn't need the items so we returned them on our way out. So we wasted time and ate all those samples for nothing! :D I hadn't had an am snack so didn't mind if I went a bit over and I was wanting a mocha so when I got home I made a 1/2 no-milk mocha. Guess that's another NSV as normally I might do without the milk but would have thought I had to have the full serving as it was very little, but it gave me the taste and I guess that's all I needed. Of course a healthier option would have been to have eaten some veggies as so far I haven't had any today. I did have a little fruit with breakfast.
Bobbie - Yes occasionally I do use TVP but not often as unfortunately we do notice the difference. Maybe it's just because I know it's there but dh doesn't know and will eat it but I can tell he doesn't like it as much. We don't eat much meat. I buy the best meat I can find and since we only buy a small amount it's not too bad dollar-wise but I don't like to waste it. I don't know how families do it. And it's even more important with children to buy organics as the younger one is the more damage is done by the bad things in our food. GFY making your own ground beef! I'm too lazy but I think it's better not to be so dependent on these companies for so much of our food. Interesting about the Irish Spring and your cramps. I often have very bad cramps. But with me, it's strange, but all my pains go in cycles. Right now it's my left leg that hurts (sciatica but fairly mild), other times it will be cramps, or back spasms etc. Thank God it doesn't all come at once! :-O Nice that you are getting the birds. I noticed yesterday that dh has put out his hummingbird feeder too. Marie - I measure everything and I eat a max of 3 oz meat at dinner. Dh eats about the same. The steaks last night were Delmonicos..kind of like filet mignons without bacon. I didn't weigh a whole one but guess one would have been about 8 oz since half was about 4 oz so I cut some off. To look at one you'd think it would not be enough to share but they are thick. Joe had to throw it back on the grill for me as it was a bit raw inside the first time, but it was very tender and good. In a restaurant I usually go for a 6-8 oz (if possible) and try to take some home. Before sometimes I'd eat it all though. Haven't gone to a steak house since I've gotten my "control." ;) Did you end up going shopping? Buy anything interesting? Nothing much to talk about ...hi to all I didn't mention. Hope you all have a good evening. Mary |
Hi Everyone,
The event at the college last night was very nice. Five of my former students were there and I LOVED getting to see them. Today, I went to south Jersey & took my friend with Alz out for a few hours. She seems about the same as the last time I saw her. Kind of cold, damp, and rainy here. I will check back here tomorrow. Lynn |

Hello everyone! Today was a real "gorking" day for me! Well, I did wash sheets on our bed but not much else!!
I had to laugh about using my girls as "dust mops" For one, they put out more hair then I can keep up with and two, the only rooms in our house that aren't carpeted are the kitchen, baths and laundry!! Wouldn't work to well there! But I have one of those H2O steam mops and I love it!! My kitchen is a wood Parquet floor and I can sweep it in no time and use the H2O mop and it just shines!! I don't use anything on the floor except water and it feels squeaky clean after I mop!! I don't have to mop, rinse and all that jazz anymore, really do love it! My sister and her hubby took their '56 Chevy to Dallas yesterday, their son in law is a minister and he is preaching a sermon on "Restoration" tomorrow so they thought since they worked so hard on restoring once before the tornado and then again now after, they would use it as a good visual aid! They had a good time traveling to Dallas with the oldies blasting on the radio!! KIDS!!! Actually they aren't kids anymore she is 49 and the baby of our family! Bobbi, I added a picture of the '56 they restored.. Really is pretty but after all the time and money they have invested-- I think I would have to "save" it for car shows!! Tomorrow we will have church and meet the rest of the family for lunch... our normal Sunday. Think we will be going back to Granny Schaffers... good food and good prices! Plus the family makes it real good company! Marie, sorry that Kai has the siezures that often. Ginger right now is only about every 6 months to a year, sometimes longer but it is always scary!! Freda, isn't the weather crazy!! One day heat is on and you are still cold, the next day you have the AC and you are still hot!! Couldn't be our age that is part of it--NAH!!! Donna, how is your hand? Is Sabrino really sorry? I guess he will be your outside furbaby! But that is OK too. Gayle, how are things at work? Did you make it through the week in the wardrobe change? Still think that was a wrong thing for them to do.. people in the hospital want to have a cheerful atmosphere around them--Hope things get better. Zoe, Hope things are going fantastic for you too. I've never been to Vermont but I hear that it is beautiful. We made a few trips to Maine when we lived back there and that was pretty. Rie, sounds like you had a chilly day but probably still really enjoyed it. Time away is always nice-- I think!!! Rosey, glad that you are feeling better. A loss of a friend is always hard. (((HUGS TO YOU))) Well, I didn't mean to make this a book and I know I still left people out but not meaning to. Hope everyone has a Wonderful Sunday.... Catch y'all tomorrow night |

Happy Sunday!
Today is a day to get a few things accomplished and do some pampering. Hair removal, skin care, deep condition hair, manicure and pedicure. Self care takes more work these days! LOL. I am also going to view a RV this morning. Hoping that I have found one for myself.:^: Rosey, I loved the idea of the teeny tiny ice cream things. We buy them for my little ds. I think you are right - sometimes we need ice cream - just not a pint! Karen31, I loved the pictures of the car! I have lots of friends who are into cars and it is just so much fun. Lynn, lovely that you could spend time with your friend. I always think that I need to do the right thing and treat people well - even if they can't understand or appreciate it. I am glad that the event went well and you enjoyed seeing your students. Mary, great NSV with the mocha. I was running around in Sams club the other day and I hadn't eaten lunch. The pizza and such smelled so good! It was hard to resist. Marie and others.... the BCA (national billiard congress of america) requires shirts with a fold over collar as part of the dress code. Also, no open toed shoes, torn clothing, or excessively revealing clothes. I think the fold over collar shirt is to prevent any t shirts from being worn, although they are trying to change the rule because some folks just toss a shirt on over a crappy t shirt. Typical wear is a polo type shirt. Bobbi, I don't care for the tvp but I always make my own hamburger. I grew up eating our own beef and I simply can't stand the taste of town beef. Sometimes I go to a local butcher who grinds his own. Absolutely worth it. Although, I eat very little hamburger these days. Donna, what are you, Samcat and gm doing this weekend? You had hail last night in Denver? Today is one of those lovely high mountain plain days. The sky is brilliant blue. I am off to buy my bedding plants but I will not put them in until I return from vegas. Freda, are you working this weekend because you have been off for a few days? I hope you are enjoying family time. K2, could you please post the name of your son's first book? I forgot and I would like to check it out? CarolSue, hope you are having a good weekend. Gayle, how are you doing? Any fun times with Maddie lately? Zoe, (semi retired) are you back from vermont? Have you been able to get out to the lake yet at all? Well, sorry if I missed anyone. Off to take care of errands and the beautification project. Hugs. Rie |
LOL, Funeral Soup is just plain old vegetable soup. I put real chicken breast meat and chicken broth in most of it and kept out a small potful of just vegetable for the couple of vegetarians that would be there. I usually put rice and/or some kind of pasta in also. I put alphabet pasta in this time and it looked like Campbell's canned soup.
Bobbi, I've used TVP for years. This is just a fly by so have a good day everyone. |
Snack idea -
How about we each post something that we use for evening snacks - Grapes & Cream Cheese Dip - To make the dip - Small container of FF cream cheese Splenda to taste Some SF (or FF) Cool Whip Beat it all up together & dip your grapes into it. Lynn |
Good Sunday to you all,
Havent been on in a few days. My arthritis has really flared up due to this wet damp cold weather we are having. I get really really sore and in pain when this happens all i can do is take it easy until it passes. Bobbi your TVP is a good idea. I have used it some and i use tofu a lot. in soups and stir fry. I will have to get some TVP and try it again the way you said with some beef broth and 8oz of beef. Its so cold here for May. what is going on?? then my sisters in Joplin and kansas city Mo. are smothering to death already. Had to turn the air on. Im going down June 1 to visit for a couple weeks. sure hope its not 90 when i am there. I will melt! Our hummingbirds come about this time in may ... just yesterday i put up our feeder. Cant wait to see them. Hummingbirds are my favorite. My sister sent me a pic. of the beautiful Orioles she had in her yard. So pretty. My furbaby Sylvee is doing well on her diet. she is looking slimmer everyday. I am so glad. This food the vet reccomended is really working. well another rainey day here in alaska. Sure miss the sunshine. have a great week everybody |
I try not to snack in the evening but my MIL makes a super snack with graham crackers. She uses 2 crackers sandwiched together with the ultra low fat Cool Whip and puts them in the freezer. It's just like an ice cream sandwich.

Hi Golden Chicks -
Rosey - very sorry for your loss. A big hug to you. Got busy this past week. I have been catching up on posts by reading most recent first. It caused a little confusion… Karen 32 - I have heard women refer to their breasts as “the girls,” so when you said something about using the girls as dust mops….and that you couldn’t keep up with their hair…and someone had mentioned using the epilator before that…When I finally got to the earlier post where you said you took them for hair cuts, I started thinking grand daughters, then saw the picture of your beautiful fur babies. I was glad you weren’t using granddaughters as dust mops…and very glad that your boobs weren’t hairy and long enough to use for dusting…I started cracking up when it all came together for me. My DH asked, “What’s so funny?” I just told him - it’s the chicks. I think I better post this while I catch up on the other posts. I am still laughing at the pictures that were crossing my mind! |
Oh, Dee, I'm laughing about "the girl's."
Check out this site: http://www.skinnytaste.com Lot's of wonderful recipes all lower calorie. I'm making the baked eggplant sticks for tonight's supper. |
I just got home from church and lunch and decided to check in and see whats been happening!!! Dee, I'm still laughing at your post and the pics you must have had in your mind!!! I laughed so hard I had tears running down my face!! Glad Tim was outside and I didn't need to try to explain why I was laughing so hard!! Too Funny!!
Got stuff I need to get done so will try to get back later!! "Karen 32 - I have heard women refer to their breasts as “the girls,” so when you said something about using the girls as dust mops….and that you couldn’t keep up with their hair…and someone had mentioned using the epilator before that…When I finally got to the earlier post where you said you took them for hair cuts, I started thinking grand daughters, then saw the picture of your beautiful fur babies. Lynn - I love “Smash” too. It looks like years of work must have gone into this season, just to write all the songs. I would love to have it come back though. Isabella - I like to wait until I can relax to have my treats too. I could never make cakes and cookies for things. When I bring things for some events I bring vegetable trays with shrimp dip that I’ve made if I can get away with it. Deb - so glad your surgery went well. Isn’t it amazing how quickly we can get that sugar down? It is such a reliable comfort and brain chemistry boost. You deserved it. But quickly get back on the wagon. That’s part of my problem, taking too long to get back on the wagon. I have been craving guacamole for a week and since yesterday was Cinco De Mayo, I decided to indulge but using celery to move it from dish to mouth instead of chips. I was feeling kind of proud of myself. Of course, I bought chips, ostensibly for DH. Guess who went back and ate some - Oh, yeah - Moi…second to sweet is salty and crunchy… Karen 3 - sounds like you have a killer cold. I had one a while back. Much sympathy to you. At some point I decided it was a sinus infection, went to doctor and got antibiotics. Seemed to help but just may have been a coincidence. The cough seemed to go on and on. I didn’t notice when it was gone - but it is. And computers - kudos to you for working at it. I usually end up turning it over to DH who does a lot of major swearing. He usually gets it to the point that it is working somewhat again. Wish I knew how to do hugs on this program - here is my version, OOO. Feel better. Freda - I haven’t gotten the doctor’s report of the sleep study but the tech told me a few things. If I had obvious apnea she would have woken me and put me on a C pap machine in the middle of the study. She said that I do have something that wakes me up several times a night though. This I knew. I actually think most of the women I know can’t sleep through the night. Some things just aren’t the same after giving birth to a couple of kids. And then the hot flashes. I’m on BHRT and that has helped (also getting older) but I think I have “warm flashes.” i guess my doctor wanted to rule out apnea. Lady sheets - sorry about your arthritis acting up. Does it bother you all winter or is it more when it’s damp? How about when Alaska has the long nights with very little daylight? I hope you get sunshine soon. Glad Sylvee is slimming down. I think I would have a hard time keeping a fur baby thin. I still think of my dogs as 2 of the creatures I’ve loved the most. Isabella and Carol Sue - those snacks sound good. The egg plant sticks sound good too. I’m going to check out that site. I don’t have a good snack to post but am very interested in what others have. Marie - sorry about fur baby seizures. How are they all handling you being back at work? I bet they are joyous when you return. That’s the problem with kids. They grow out of that! Have to go to health club - it closes early on Sundays. Hugs to all |
Carol Sue...thanks for the giggle! My boobs aren't hairy but could be categorized in the long department with gravity taking over.
