Carol Sue, thank you for that recipe. I'm absolutely going to make those when I have a few people to help eat them. They sound so good and I have a couple of packs of coating mix I've been going to use just to get rid of. (pantry shopping, lol)
Oh my, Kare31, about your mother's money stashed all over the house. I wonder how many people get rid of their parent's things and get rid of money at the same time? Years ago most women had a "sugar basin" for emergencies. It's not a bad idea but I wouldn't want to keep too much around the house. Donna, your money saving on cat food is not terrible at all. Cat's don't mind and Sabrino is eating well. Brenda, hope you're having a nice day shopping. Must go get supper. Mostly fruit tonight with a slice of homemade raisin cinnamon bread. Catch you all later. |
Hi Everyone,
My DD made a bunch of chocolate, peanut butter, Fiber One cookies - haystacks. She got the recipe from Hungry Girl. She used DARK chocolate. They are DELICIOUS and filling. Just doing coursework here. I did it again - doing 2 courses at the same time - just for 1 more week. I am a sucker - I hate to say no to these courses. Friday evening is a dinner dance with some of my students. My DD & SIL are escorting me. Hopefully, it will be nice weather - it is outside in a big tent. Chopped event is on Mother's Day. I am looking forward to it. Have a GREAT rest of your May Day - anyone else used to do MayPole dances? Also - get rose petals and strew them down the aisle of the church? Lynn |
There's a little cool breeze today and no sun. Dh wanted to work in the yard but it's a little too cool and damp to enjoy being outside long. We worked out as usual..this was his tai-chi day so I worked in the machine room alone (well with all the other people. :D ) I did the bike for 30 min as I didn't get to read the first 15 min due to talking to the lady next to me, so did an extra 15 min just so I could read! I ONLY read my Kindle at the gym or when waiting for an appt so it takes me a while to finish a book and I get anxious to read esp if it's a good book. So that made me run late so only did ten min on the treadmill and only two weight machines.
I survived last nights dinner out pretty well. Only gained back .6# so hopefully I can lose that fairly fast. I think I did pretty well however next time I go there I think I will cut back on the dessert a bit more. Still, I didn't feel like I really pigged out. My bs was very high at bedtime, but today after breakfast and exercise it was only 107 which unusually low for me even after exercise. Of course dh's bs was great last night and he actually LOST a pound even though he ate about the same amt as me maybe even more!:dizzy: Lynn - Oh your dd's cookies sound SO good!! I'm glad they are not in MY house! Jess - Hope your hand heals quickly. I think what you are doing for the stray cat is great. If you weren't feeding him he might not have anything or eat very poorly. Slmn - Your oven baked fries don't sound terribly unhealthy to me...it is 6 serv so you aren't really getting much oil and can use a healthy oil. Of course I don't know what's in the coating mix...is it high in fat or is it the sodium you're worried about? Sounds good. Some men sure aren't good with compliments. I don't know if stretching would help with the shoes because they aren't too tight...in fact I wouldn't want them any wider..I have narrow feet and these are slip-on shoes. It's just that they are a little short esp for my left where my great toe is a bit longer I guess. When dh and I go to Costco...we usually do the samples AND share a slice of pizza! We call it our "cheap date." But it's really too many calories and carbs for me esp if it's a day when there are a lot of samples. Bobbi - Yes, you did tell me about finding the budgeting program. I hope you like it. Yes, I can't imagine most men handling childbirth but if they had to (like us) they'd manage I guess. There has been one man who had a baby and I hear he's pregnant again! But doubt he had to go through labor at all. Probably just put him to sleep I'm guessing. However, my dh is not much of a complainer. Sometimes I wish he would complain more...he'll have pain and won't tell me until it's been hours sometimes. Well, he's calling me to watch Judge Judy with him...yes that's how our afternoons go..sad isn't it? LOL Mary |
About men having babies - when you think about it, with artificial insemination, and ceserean (SP?) deliveries, I would guess that this might become more common. Especially if the wife has some kind of physical problem. Is the man then the mother?

Good evening GG’s,
Ahhhh ~ done with most of the “have to do” stuff for today. A few more things to do to be ready to go back to work tomorrow. Had a little sewing to finish on the wardrobe of gloom. One of the tops ~ when I washed it, the trim did not fare well, so I had to take it off and put on a different one. Then finished up making some of the things like those Cami Secret things that they show on TV. A cloth insert that you fasten to your bra straps and it goes across the space in a V-neck top so your cleavage isn’t hanging out. I hate that. I had bought some of the ready made ones (found a better price on-line than at Walmart), but had worn those out. A lot of people wear a colored T-shirt under their scrubs, but I get too hot doing that, so the Cami Secret knock offs I made were cut from the bottom of little kids shirts and will look like a T-shirt, cover up the “girls” and I won’t get too hot. LOL. Made them in colors to match the trims. Then, got the rest of my education stuff done. I thought I was done before, but the corporate office added more stuff. Hopefully they won’t add more for a while ~ I’d like to be done with that stuff so I can do something fun. Glad not to be there today, as the state inspectors were supposed to be there. I feel bad for my coworkers, but glad at the same time not to be there myself. Lynn ~ your chopped thing sounds neat. So does that recipe for the fiber one haystacks ~ I probably shouldn’t ask, but where can I find the recipe for that? Mary ~ glad you did well with your eating out last night. LOL at your cheap date CK ~ the idea of a “secret stash of cash” sounds cool, but I couldn’t get away with it as DH keeps track of just about every penny. Maybe a little here and there wouldn‘t be missed, but it would take an awfully long time to add up to much of anything. Donna ~ hope your hand is healing and feeling better. I think what you do with SamCat’s left overs is a great idea. Nothing goes to waste that way, you don’t have to buy extra for Sabrino and he is probably very thankful for it. Brenda ~ hope you get your medication mess straightened out ~ that is just not right. Isabella ~ thank you for the May Basket of flowers. Happy May Day to you too. Andi ~ did you enjoy your walk today? Love it when the weather is nice out to be able to do that. Debbie ~ glad your eating and moving is going well for you. Rie ~ enjoy your fishing trip then your Vegas trip Bobbi ~ I hadn’t thought about those May baskets in a long time until you mentioned them. I remember making them in school and coming home and hanging them on mom and dad’s door or grandma’s door. Marie ~ wasn’t today your first full day back? Or was that last week? Sorry I forget ~ how did your fur babies do? Rosey ~ sorry to hear about your friend. Will pray. Any news today? Freda ~ how are you holding up with all the running for the grandkids ~ you are one busy grandma Mrslosingit ~ how did your WW weigh in go? Looks like from your ticker, you are doing well so far. KarenFL ~ are those gummy bears still keeping those pesky armadillos at bay? Cindy Gail ~ welcome back ~ you’re off to a good start doing some yoga. Deelee ~ I can identify with the annoying DH ~ mine irritates me at times, but I wouldn’t want anything to happen to him either like you said. Darcy ~ your kids and little grandson are so cute. Wow ~ what an undertaking to read the threads from all those months ~ and then to remember it all to comment and keep it all straight. Guess I’d better quit fooling around here and go finish the rest of the stuff that awaits me. I got some personals, but will have to finish more at another time ~ forgive me for those of you I didn’t get to this time. Hope you all have had a good day and having a good evening. Take care |
Lynn - I wonder how a man could possibly "grow" a baby, without a uterus to provide nourishment to the fetus? And HOW WOULD HE GET IT OUT?????????????????????????? I'm having incredibly entertaining graphic images!
Mary - the "man" who had the baby was a female to begin with... http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2...tes-from-wife/ I think this is all just a bit too much!! Gayle - I love the "wardrobe of gloom"! I'll be eager to hear how the administrative inspection went... and is just a one-day deal? Back to work tomorrow. I feel like a zombie and, apparently, need the stimulation of work! So sad, yes? Onward, lovelies! |
Lynn/Jess - Yes the "man" who had a baby (and is now pregnant again) WAS a woman and has a uterus. For now at least they have to have this organ, but the way things are progressing who knows about the future. LOL Seems like if one went to all that trouble to not be a woman, you wouldn't want to have a baby but then I understand that couples can be desperate to have babies. This world is changing so fast..sometimes I think I looked the other way for a few minutes and it did a flip on me or something. Good question, Lynn, is HE then the mother? I suppose not since he is now a man. Oh it's a confusing world...:?: Feel sorry for the children growing up in it but guess they won't know any different.
ETA: I notice this article is dated this year and says nothing about him being pregnant again. It even says he was contemplating a hyst, but I heard recently that he's pregnant again. Not sure now if it is true. |
Hi all!
Busy day today and I came home to a ds that is ill and the drain pipe from the kitchen sink busted and water went everywhere. Ugh! I was cranky with ds and I feel kinda bad about that. It bothers me how when there is something wrong with men, they become incapacitated but us females (especially moms) carry on.... Oh well. I did get in about an hour of pool practice. Bobbi, My beloved grandma marie lived until she was 97 and was still caring for her own home. She taught me a lot about living frugally and well. Everything she made was from scratch and most of it she grew. Only home canned fruits and veggies. (and meat, too) She made amazing breads and pastries and used to remind us girls that flour and yeast were cheap when bought in bulk. Scraps from veggies and meat went into the stock pot. Gma and Gpa had a couple hundred thousand in the bank when they passed but they always lived on their social security. They despised credit cards and didn't use them until Gpa discovered incentive programs. Then they were used and payed off every month. I absolutely adored her and I still miss her every day. She passed 6 years ago. Sorry to go on... Mary, ewwwww. That whole man/baby thing creeps me out. I forgot to tell you that I read the book "the mirror" on Saturday. I loved it! Donna, I am busy developing and enhancing my recreational interests in preparation for retiring. I don't want to need my work. :D On the other hand, most of my friends are convinced that I will work forever. Gayle, I am so impressed that you actually make yourself things like the cami secret things. How I wish that I had your talent! Lynn, I love those haystacks - so much that I can't have them in the house. I learned to make them with chow mein noodles but I think the fiber one is better. I am enchanted with the idea of the dance. Isabella, I love hearing about your vegetarian menus! Karen, nice chatting with you tonight. I loved the story about your mom and her money. I have small stash's of money everywhere. It is always nice to find it. Carol, I like the potato recipe. We do oven baked fries all the time. Brenda, have you ever tried the Self Watering planters they sell at Walmart? they are amazing! Rosey I am sending good thoughts your way  I don't remember who asked me about Vegas. I leave one week from tomorrow on my annual quest for glory at the Billiard Congress of America National Championships. I will be there a little more than a week. I love it - it is heaven for pool fanatics. There are usually about 5000 players in the various tournaments. Can you goldens believe that I am headed back for my second trip since I joined this group? Amazing. Time flies.......;) Sorry for anyone that I missed but I am tired. Rie |
Good morning GG's
Not feeling so great this morning. I knew I was coming down with something last night, but I was hopeing it was just sinus. I guess it's a cold. Not serious, just miserable. I know weather doesn't cause colds, but I'm thinking that sitting out in the rain and cold for 2 nights is not helping. Gayle, I need some of those inserts for my uniforms too. They are making them now and I found them at the drug store. One of those online TV things. I used to could buy petite scrub tops, but haven't found them in awhile. I did find some tops at Sears (of all places) that had a higher neck line, so that worked. Now I don't have to worry about leaning over a patient and causing an MI. Karen31, When my DIL's grandmother died they found money hidden all over the house. They had to go through everything with a fine tooth comb. It was in books, and there was a can of nails in the basement that had thousands of dollars hidden in the bottom. I guess it's good to keep some money at home, in case of emergencies. But with credit cards even that is questionable. And a little "mad" money never hurts. Rie, too true. Women have to carry on and have little down time when they are sick. Only men have that luxury. Bobbi, Congrats on the budget issue. I try to live frugally all the time. It's just how I was raised. Buy on sale, use what you have. All the splurges I do are for the Grankids. Donna, I saw the Man that had the baby on Oprah. It also showed how he looked as a femal. This will be their second child then? Don't know where they live but some areas are much more supportive. Lynn, I don't know what all the ing. are in the cookies, but they could be fairly healthy. A much better treat than some other things that you could choose. Isabella, I love potatoes too. I make the baked, fried, potatoes. Potatoes are a starchy vegetable but they are still pretty healthy. I use a mister for the oil and you can use a lot less. Debbie, have you tried the pilates yet? Balance is a problem for us all as we grow older. Something to really focus on. |
Hi Everyone,
A VERY rainy day here today. Mainly working on my classes. Have a great day, Everyone, Lynn Originally Posted by maryea: I do the same except mine is a Nook. Rie - I think the Fiber One haystacks would be healthy. I would use dark chocolate (healthy), peanut butter (healthy) and Fiber One cereal (healthy). A while back I bought the cereal to make them but never did. So far, all I did was taste the cereal as cereal, and didn't like it. Add PB and chocolate and I would probably love it! But eating 1? Not going to happen! LOL The only thing is I don't think the carb count would be favorable.
Marie - I used my epilator for the second time. It was much better than the first time. Hardly even felt it! I'm glad you recommended it. Maryea - I am concerned about the coated french fries mainly because of the carbs. That probably wouldn't be an issue for someone who isn't diabetic. I think one could look on the package from the coating and see what the total foods counts are. And they ARE baked, not fried. I use mainly canola oil at home which is a good oil and olive oil could probably be used. Here is a question for the resident nurses. My home nurse who comes every day checks my blook pressure and she said it is running high, averaging 150/82. Shortly after starting me on this new med I went to the dr to get it checked and it was 134/72 and the dr was satisfied with that. Still, when she checks it each day, it's high. Today I went for my regular check up with the cardiologist and it was 124/67. I know the nurse isn't going to be happy about that because she wants him to do something about the blood pressure, but when they check it, it's good. He said maybe I don't like the nurse and get stressed out when she's there. LOL I don't think that's the case, but I AM stressed out about WHY the nurse is here, because of the seromas in my incision. What do you think about this, and should I go by what the doctor is telling me? If I would hide money and DH found out about it he would go bezerk! His first wife slipped out one day while he was at work and he would suspect that I was saving up to do the same thing. Like I would consider leaving a guy who does the housework and the laundry! LOL |
Hi Golden Chicks - I found the secret to keep myself from eating carbs or anything at night - doing a sleep study. My endocrinologist has been telling me to have one done for about 2- 3 years. I finally did it last night. Very sweet technician “wired” me up, tucked me in, turned out the light. I was wired up so I couldn’t really get up to go to the bathroom. I knew about that so I prepared. AND THERE WAS NO FOOD THERE! I didn’t even miss it that much cuz I knew it wasn’t possible. Amazing. I’m going to try to replicate it at home - throw out the salad croutons. I have to go to the health club. I’ll be back later to do personals.

GRRRRRRRRR! Sat and watched my pc emplode this am. Had to get a new laptop. ..virus was USPO something ain't that the cat's *ss! be back when I figure what am doing with this and get wirless big ball mouse running....shhh love the Big Ball....k3

Just got home from the gym and grocery shopping. We skipped the treadmill today because we got a late start and we did walk ten min on the track and I walk very briskly. I told dh at first that I wanted to still walk the treadmill but after the bike I was tired so decided to just do the weight machines and call it enough. It's fairly bright out even though it's not really sunny and slightly cool.
The guy that was going to repair our roof is out of state on a job so that project has been delayed. We are both wanting to travel somewhere but not sure when we will do it. Our grandson (12) will be here this month and we may also visit our son who lives a couple hours away so perhaps that will be enough excitement for the month. Breakfast was my mocha made with and 1/2 c milk and regular pb. Yummy! It's creamier with regular pb but usually I use PB2 to keep it lighter. AM snack was three sm samples at Good Seasons store..a very small pc of waffle (without topping), about a tablespoon of berries, and two corn chips with a 1/2 t. of salsa. I liked the fruit the best and I gave the rest of the salsa and chips to dh. Lunch was a sm can of V8 juice and then an English muffin with 1 t. Smart Balance and 1 t. sugar free blueberry fruit spread. Also yummy! Karen3 - Sorry about the virus! A new laptop is nice though...I haven't tried a big ball mouse but have had wireless in the past. Mine didn't seem to last as long as my regular mouse does though. Not sure why. Deelee - Yes we can go without food when we have too, can't we? I always felt like I couldn't, but as a believer I knew that food is not in control of me and I'm finding that it is true. I just have to trust that. So far I'm doing fine. Slmn - Understand about the carbs however even though I'm diabetic I do still eat potatoes. I just count the carbs. If it weren't for my diabetes I'd eat much more potatoes though...so guess having the dx is good in some ways because it is limiting. About the BP, could you take it yourself now and then to see what kind of readings YOU get? If you don't have or want to buy the equipment you could go into a drug store or some place that has a BP booth set up or a nurse to do it. As long as that does not make you nervous. Doing it yourself would be best probably if you can. It is interesting that it is low at the doctors as that is when so many people stress, so it might just be the situation as you say. Rie - Glad you enjoyed The Mirror. Did you read it ALL in one day? Don't think I could do that but I remember having a hard time putting it down the first time I read it and so has everyone I've lent it to. |
Hello GG's
