Howdy all...Been out shopping for my million dollar dog. Picked up his Rx for $200 and then his canned food for $99 and bought a big cheese cookie for him. Stuck in the bag and forgot, but nose knows and he found it. Removed the wrap and ate it on the way home. He is so funny with bags...plays with like a kitten would.

Karen....Happy trails to you! Remember Gene Autry?

Gayle....just try reaching in that bowl and 6 GG will jump on you. This is a secret test made up just for you.

Zoe....I married my hi school sweetheart 53 yrs ago.

Boy do any of you remember the special rules we lived by....besides no white shoes after Sept 1st.

Rules:
No patent leather shoes (boys could look up your skirt)
No saddle shoes unless you went to Catholic school
No duck tail (better known as DA(ducks a**)) That was a big problem as my hair naturaliy grows in the back as a DA.
No see thru blooses
Cardigan sweaters worn botton backwards were cool
Angora sweaters were cool even if they tasted fuzzy in your mouth and shed.
Tangelo lipstick was allowed
How about dog collars on your bobbysocks? Right free Left going steady.
Bells in your crinolines? I think wearing crinolines caused me to get celulites later in life....looks the same on my thights!
Blue felt skirts with a white poodle that had a leash.
Elastic stretch belts.
Ugly ugly ugly gym clothes!
Girl's basketball where as right guard I couldn't cross the center line.
Right wing soccor with stupid resrictions like not into goal range.
Driver Ed with a push button transmission car! Never saw another car like that ever again.
ID bracelets.
Friendship pins.
Drive in movies, Drive Ins with carhops, Lover lanes
Saturday movies that cost 35 cents. 25 cents if you were under 13yrs old.
Gas cost 19 cents and $2.00's about filled my Mom's Buick.
American Bandstand from Philly. Dick Clark was old then, too.
Saturday night tv with "Your Hit Parade"...they lip synced the words to the real records.
NY Dodgers and NY Giants....
pincurls and rag rollers and don't forget home perms!
Margarine you had to squeeze the yellow color tablet into.
What Dad said was law and Mom always told him.

Donnamarie...good job!

Rosie....at this rate you will be in One Land by the holidays! Fabulous Darlink!

Donna...you refrig the damp clothes so they didn't get moldy/smelly.

Freda...I remember Fall. Do miss the big colors.

I know I miss a bunch of you like Rie andMarie Kaola So grab a big group hug, I've turned this in novelette....k3

Hello Goldens!

I got in last night and I cruised fb for a while and fell asleep before I could post here. I was really tired. I passed my audit with flying colors - only one minor thing that I can send in next week. Whewww!

DonnaMarie, Wow, congrats! What a start.

Incredible Shrinking Rosey! You go girl. Your progress is so amazing. I loved the pictures.

Karen3, I think Dash is worth whatever you spend for his health and comfort. I am in awe of high school sweethearts who are still together.

Karenmo, I bet you are really busy getting ready for the trip. That Tim is a really good sport.....;) I look forward to hearing about your adventures. Don't worry about personals while you are gone, just send us a commentary on your trip whenever you can.

Bobbi, enjoy your girl time and don't work too hard on the garden shed.

Gayle, good job on the willpower! Darn Candy! BTW, I LOVE hairapy. I didn't know that other families did that...

Lynn, how are you feeling? I loved your pictures and I felt so proud! I got a little misty eyed at your description. You are amazing.

Tonight I am attending a women's expo, then a wine tasting and comedy show for women with some friends. Tomorrow morning, I will be walking my first ever 5k. I am excited and a little aprehensive. I've just never done anything like that before.

I know that I have missed lots of folks but I will try to get back later. I want to share in your list, Karen, and catch everyone else for personals. I am off to pamper my skin and to exfoliate/weedwack all the disgusting hair that is growing on my body. What is up with that????? Yuk! LOL

Be back later.

Rie

Total Turnaround

I had to take Jonathan to a doctor's appointment that is about 2 hours from my house this AM. On the way home we were hungry, so he wanted to stop at Long John Silvers. Fine with me. I'll get the baked fish. Only...there was no baked fish. So I chose not to eat (though I was really hungry). He only ate one of his fish so I peeled off the breading fried part and ate the other. EWWWWWW. I was really disgusted. It just felt like I was pouring grease down my throat. Once upon a time I could eat 3 or 4 pieces an enjoyed it. Not any more. :P

Didn't really do too bad on calorie intake, but high grossness factor. Amazing how my likes/dislikes have changed in a month!

Going to go eat a healthy salad to balance out the evil of lunch. : )

:) Afternoon everyone! I remember all those "rules" from jr. & sr. high. And we would never consider breaking them either! We are back into summer for a couple of days so I'm taking advantage. I haven't weighed myself this week & probably won't until next Tues. Yes, I'm a coward! Big CONGRATULATIONS :woohoo: and ATTA GIRLS :bravo: and WAY TO GO :cheers2: to you gals that have lost & your milestones! You do give me inspiration. THANK YOU! TTYL

Wanna bet? We had a code of conduct that listed 25 things we couldn't do, very long sentences. I had a wad of gum in my mouth in health class, the teacher caught me and told me to spit it out. I did, then stuck another wad of gum in my mouth. She caught me again, then had me write the whole code of conduct 25 times. Every single word, it took me forever. I can still remember how my arm and fingers felt by the time I finished it.

Karen FL ~ Gayle....just try reaching in that bowl and 6 GG will jump on you. This is a secret test made up just for you.

LOL ~ this made me think of those halloween candy bowls that has a hand that comes out to smack you when you reach for a piece of the candy that is in it.

I did not touch any today either. :carrot::carrot::carrot:

Marie 09-23-2011 10:14 PM

Tgif!

Gayle, I love hairapy. I love having my hair brushed, washed, etc. It’s so relaxing.

KarenFL, I remember a couple of the rules. Not many. And is it ok to wear white sandals after Labor Day if you’re not living in the tropics? I love my white birks and I put them away Labor Day weekend.

Val, here’s hoping for a good 5K walk. How could you train for it when your back was giving you such fits? I bet the other workouts will give you plenty of stamina.

Donna Marie, cool beans that fried food is now disgusting. That’s big progress.

Rosey, you are amazing!!!

Sherry, I find the longer between weigh ins at the scale the more frightened I get of it. I think I’m up to about 6 months now. I don’t think clothes are the best measurement for me – the scale is. But it is scary.

Bobbi, you defiant one. Did you ever stick another wad of gum in your mouth in health class?

I am so happy the work week is over. I need my powerball ticket to win.

So I actually make a dinner for myself. Chicken breast, 135 cals of frozen fries (baked) and green beans. I have it timed and should be perfect. Except the dumb BBQ ran out of propane. Raw chicken. So I’m currently eating my beans and fries while the chicken breast is under the broiler. That’ll teach me to have a dinner instead of grilled cheese sandwich (main staple of late).

Our beautiful summer weather is to end on Sunday. It will be cold. Brrr. I’ve swam the last 3 days and tomorrow might be the season ender. I hope the cold is temporary as I love playing in my pool.

Nothing new here. Work stinks. Staying on plan. Exercising. And all four dogs are healthy today. So Fridays just rock.
Marie

Karen31 09-23-2011 10:57 PM

Hello-- Wanted to pop in and say HI! It has been a busy day and I am getting down to the wire! Tomorrow I will throw one load of laundry in (dark clothes so it will be jeans) and have them ready to put in the closet in the 5th wheel. And I want to vacuum good and then shampoo the carpets before we leave so that is on the agenda for tomorrow too. Should be able to get everything done. We are still planning on leaving Sunday but Tim ended up having another tooth pulled today so will depend on how well he is doing the next day or so. If not Sunday we hope to leave Monday.

Karen I remember all those list too.. AND I had a poodle skirt except mine was red! I also remember putting cards on the spokes of my bike to make it sound like a "motorcycle" and somehow it really did make it seem like you were going faster with the noise!! So much fun to go down memory lane...

Marie, sorry to hear about your pool. I'm already looking forward to next spring when we can open it again!!

Rosey, loved the pics. I've never had moose but had friends that used to have venison chili with elk! Very good, but I think they mixed in some HOT sausage too.

Val-- are you doing a 5K? I must have missed that. WOW! I'm really kind of looking forward to getting back to work with the wii again. So hard to get back on track when you fall off.

Well, I know I've missed lots tonight but my brain is tired. Everybody I'll try to catch you all tomorrow. Have a good night

ellabella 09-24-2011 10:39 AM

Morning, GG's! Well, a rainy one here, darn it. We're all chomping at the bit to get out to do some apple picking. In my case, I suppose it's not tragic that we can't go, though, as I'm just about in the last stretch with the bronchitis - slept through the night without coughing, and didn't wake up coughing this morning - and it might be just as well that I take it easy for another few days. I'm using the inhaler morning and night, taking Musinex on the same schedule, and taking Nyquil at night, although I may try not doing that tonight and we'll see how it goes. I worked half a day Thursday and all day yesterday, and seem none the worse for wear.
Monday I'll start back logging into Fitday every day and climb back up on the wagon. My clothes seem to still be fitting the same (you know I'm not putting myself on the scale yet!) so maybe I haven't done too much damage over the past few weeks of unrestrained eating. Looking back, I haven't been counting every calorie, but haven't indulged quite as much as it felt like, I don't think. :?:

Rosey, I am struck with how different our lifestyles are - depending, I suppose, on geography for the most part. Actually slaughtering and butchering the meat you eat certainly gets you back to the basics that most of us who buy our meat in packages at the grocery store don't even think about from day to day. Well, I guess I THINK about it (who could help thinking about it, once they've watched Food, Inc???) but it would never occur to me to get out there and try to do it. I worry, though, that with all the additives and crap they put into foodstuff in general these days in the interests of profit, my grandchildren may have to learn to grow their own vegetables and raise cattle, sheep and/or poultry just to keep themselves healthy. Oh, but don't let me forget to say :encore: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! :encore: Oh, my. You are becoming but a shadow of your former self, and you look so happy! I'm so, so proud of you!

Oboy, CaddyK....so how long are you planning to be away? I'll keep you in my thoughts & prayers for safe travels and good times!

Marie, I am 100% with you on the scale issue. I just hate it. When I went to the doctor this past Wednesday and they asked me to step on the scale, I said "no thanks". I really have to psychologically prepare myself to look at my weight, and can't usually do it until I've been back faithfully on plan for at least a couple of weeks so that I don't have to see the absolute worst, you know?

Good for you resisting that candy bowl, Gayle....at (my) worst times, I would sternly refuse to indulge at work and then stop on my way home and buy myself a candy bar! :o

Bobbi, I just KNEW you wouldn't be one to follow anybody's rules but your own!

Donna Marie, when I was on the Atkins diet (which I stayed on for years and years, and stayed very slim & trim) I used to eat those fried pork rinds by the bagful. Now the grease nauseates me. I know what you mean. I guess it's a positive bit of progress for us, but I have to say that, as a New Englander, I do miss my fried clams and such. Oh, well. BIG congrats on breaking the 200's barrier! Way to go, chickie!

Congrats on the audit outcome, Rie/Val! Your women's night sounds like great fun...I get to do that sort of thing so rarely. I'm seriously contemplating attending a wise women's weekend in the spring, though...camping out, drumming, dancing, sharing, talking. I am feeling in need.

K3...Happy trails to you, until we meet again....happy trails to you, keep smiling until then...of COURSE I remember! What about Big Brother Bob Emery and "The Grass is Always Greener" song? Anybody remember that?

Mary, you are almost convincing me that I should give MF a try, since you're doing so well with it! Please keep us posted - I'm very interested in your ongoing progress, chickie!
Darcy, I'm glad things are going well for your son.

PT, hope all's well in your world...I'm thinking of you...and you, too, Freda.

Arrowspark?

Have a great weekend everybody...!!!! Enjoy fall - my favorite time of year, except way too short!

Z

The road is beckoning .

Hi September Girls. This is my first post on this running comments thread. I am feeling the glimmer of hope as I consider actually going for a bicycle ride today. Autumn use to be my favorite time of year to ride, and well, I wonder if there are any cyclists among you?

Karen3 09-24-2011 11:03 AM

hi Hermit Girl....welcome...where in NC are you? We have a NC Nancy and my DD lives near Siler City....K3

ps...Donna just remembered that we used liquid starch in shirts etc. Sprinkled them with water from sprinkle bottles which weren't very misty and by damping and rolling the clothes then refrig the starch spread more evenly. That's why they smell moldy from the starch...

And how could I forget about girls never called guys....hmmmm

jess1 09-24-2011 11:26 AM

Good Morning, dear GGDs!

Been a couple of days… lots happening with all of you.

PT/Zoe – I hope you’re feeling better! Knowing that you do not have pneumonia should have perked you up some! Feel better! We’re old, you know… you have to take extra care of yourself (sorry, Firefox doesn’t allow the heart symbol… I’m thinking it, though!).

Mary – how are you doing with the diet? You’re off to a fine start! Do you have a goal of how much you want to lose? I think it’s lovely that DH acknowledges that you’ll deserve a new wardrobe! I think you’re very lucky with that man… he sure seems to be a keeper!

Gayle – I think the days of the hip feeling better are over. The arthritis seems to have a life of its own, and it’s constant aching. Sometimes, it keeps me awake at night. However, I do stretch on the stairs, and I keep a level of Advil or something in my system, so it’s bearable. I have to live with it. There are no other options.

Marie – are your furbabies all doing well? My MajesticMister is back to being nearly perfect.

Fitchy – what a good idea to borrow Kindle from libraries! I’ll check out that link… thanks!

Lynn – you’re so busy! You always amaze me… Have you had a chance to look at the “Anti-inflammation Diet”? I’ve heard about it, have read little blurbs about it, and I’ll be interested to hear what you think. It looked a wee bit onerous, but that could have just been because it wasn’t well explained in the teasers. Thanks for the graphics link.

KarenFL – sounds like you’re doing really well! And I know how proud you are of your son. I do hope he’ll soon be keeping you in a style to which you should become accustomed! Good for him! Good job that you and DH did with him!

LOVED the list of “oldies rules”… don’t forget that girls never called boys and girls shouldn’t be smarter than boys. So many on your list, I remember! And I guess I did know that about refrigerating clothes; however, why weren’t they just dampened before they were ironed? I never got the idea of wetting them down and then saturating them in the refrigerator??

Change4Life/DM – congrats! That’s a wonderful milestone… with many more to come! Congratulations!!!

CK – are you ready to leave on the morrow? Safe trip… if you do get a chance, give me a call. It gets more difficult since I’m now part of the corporate slave world (), but it would be so nice to visit with you! And if you can’t, that’s also quite fine! Have fun! Stay in touch!

Awww, Rosey – nothing worse (well, it’s right up there on top!) than a wrenched back! I do hope you’re feeling better! I know that SadieMay is distraught, yea, distraught!, that she caused your injury! I’m sure Gizmo is helping to make it all better, though! How did your crock pot moose roast turn out?

Bobbi – headaches? Allergist appointment? How ARE you? Wow, you and CK were definitely the defiant misfits of our group, I think… and how much time did YOU spend being grounded? Does anyone remember toothpicks dipped in cinnamon oil? Oh, my, the nuns did NOT like that at all! Many knuckles were smacked for that!

Rie – sounds like you have a busy weekend planned. Congrats on your audit! You are obviously doing a fine job for them and deserve a raise. Who should we contact on your behalf?

Laffalot – hi! Did your plateau ever break?

HermitGirl – welcome! Our Miss Marie is an avid rider! You’ll have a buddy here.

Any newbies - WELCOME!

Today's big project is to try yet AGAIN to transfer files from my PC to a flashdrive and then onto the new laptop. Last time, Windows 7 couldn't read a lot of the Vista stuff... grrrr. However, being the Mother Teresa sort that I am (patient, gracious, patient (hahaha), I'll just take a deep breath and try it again. And I have a b'day celebration this afternoon, which will be fun; my friend and I share a b'day and so we're gathering. Otherwise, I think it's going to be a quiet weekend. Domestic drudgery is on the potential to-do list (and it's so, so, so needed!). We'll see...

Everyone, hope your weekend is a good one! Later!!

the slim me 09-24-2011 12:52 PM

Morning girls,

Didn't work today, got L/C but my back is acting up. That's what you get for going to football games and sitting in the stadiums on aluminum seats when it's raining, for 3 hours. Getting old stinks in some ways. Sometimes I forget. Got another one today. Still debating if I shoudl go. At least it's not raining.

Arrowspark, Normal is highly overated. Lots of us relish not being normal. Break out of that shell and be as n0n-normal as the rest of us!

Karen3, Seeing old the old "rules" makes me realize how far we've come. Some good, some not so good. I didn't go to Catholic school but our highscool principal was really strict. I've had to kneel on the floor a few times to make sure my skirts were not too short. They had to touch to floor or your mom got a call to come get you. Of course we rolled them up as soon as we thought she wasn't looking. Congrats on DS's books. I know you're so proud. Let us know when them come out.

Rie, Yeah Rie, Go girl! That's me cheering you on your race. What an accomplishment.

Donna Marie, My tastes have changed too. I think that's true for most of us here. I still want some of the things I used to eat, but it either doesn't taste right or my stomach complains. That alone should tell us soemthing. Didn't LJS have the salmon either? I had it not long ago and it was actually not bad.

HI Laugh, Did that plateu break? Good to hear from you.

Rosie, Sorry you are having back pain. Hope it feels better soon. You are doing so wonderful. how did you do on the trip?

Bobbi, She's a rebel and she never, never does what she should? Remember that song? But it says he. You little rebel you! I like that in a person!

Gayle, Yeah for you! Just think of that hand jumping out at you next time you're tempted. Only that hand will be mine!!!

Marie, Our really warm weather is over, but we're looking at a beautiful fall. My favorite time of year. I hope it lasts a LONG time. It's time for a ride up north to the cider mill and apple orchards.

Karen31, have a safe trip.

Z, I would love to "live off the land" too. Raise my own fruit and vegetables and raise my own meat, have chickens for eggs. My brother does that now and i'm jealous. It's just a hoby for him. he brought us fresh eggs last month and you would not believe the difference. I'm sure you country girls know. Maybe we can do that in our retirement community? I'm glad you are finally feeling like your old, wonderful self.

Hermit girl, I'm glad you found us. I LOVe riding my bike. I hadn't riden for years but when the DG'S were old enough we got the old bikes down and started riding again. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it. I walk a lot. I had forgotten that riding a bike hit different muscle.

Donna, I hate to give in to anything, especially the aches and pains. But sometimes that just remind me that I need to take a little more care. It's there, it's not going away. I guess the best we can do is not let it interfer with our lives any more than we have to.

Freda

Bobbolink 09-24-2011 02:41 PM

Hey!
It's so interesting reading about everyone's life. I love that we keep getting new gals to join in the fun. :welcome: Welcome Hermit girl! We used to love biking but finally sold our bikes. It's such a hassle to load them up and take to a bike trail. We live out in the country on a gravel road and that makes for hard biking. We do quite a bit of cross country skiing in the winter, that's about it.
Donna...I used to be the class clown and a smart aleck in school. But then I got married and had to start acting like an adult......boring! My headaches are almost non-existing. Today I put a respirador mask over my nose while working outside. My appointment with the allergy specialist isn't until Oct 4th. I can't take any allergy relief pills starting Tue, a whole week before the appointment. I'll probably have a headache the whole time.
Quote:

headaches? Allergist appointment? How ARE you? Wow, you and CK were definitely the defiant misfits of our group,
I finished up cleaning the shed today and put away all the deck tables/chairs, lounges, etc away. I'm pooped!

Zoe...We cut up and package our wild game too, I think it's fun. You're right on about growing your own veggies, maybe when you retire you'll plot out a garden.
Freda...my back aches for you, I never enjoyed sitting on the hard wood bleachers at basketball games.
Marie...I don't remember chewing gum again in her class, she watched me closely after that. I never did understand what the big deal was, so what if we chewed gum? The kids get away with murder now.
KarenFla...Nice to hear you chatty again, must be feeling much better. Dash is a very expensive dog, you should get him insured! How old is he? I really hate thinking about the age of our dog, I'm going to cry a bucket when Charlie's gone. (He's only 5 so we have some time left.)
Donna Marie...I tried to peel off the breading on some fish sticks once and there was nothing left. As least you tried to eat healthy.
Hi Glynne, KarenMo, Laffs, Rosie and Rie. I think I had some comments on your past post but I can't go back without losing my posts.
I made a big pot of vegetable soup to eat all week while DH is Antelope hunting, hope to drop a couple of pounds while he's gone. I really had a sweet tooth last night, I had some 7 minute frosting in the frig that was calling my name. I got out the grahm crackers, the frosting and a knife. Smears some on a cracker and pigged it down. Then I ate another one, darn it. Finally I poured tap water into the frosting container and dumped it down the sink so I wouldn't eat anymore. What a dork, why count the frickin calories then eat that crap in a weak moment?:rollpin: I ordered a long, rectangle angel food pan......It just came in the mail today. I think I'll go make a angel food cake in it. I have sugar free cool whip and some crushed pineapple for a topping.
Geeeeeeeeezzzzzzz Charlie, he's laying under my feet and he just passed some gas.:dizzy::dizzy::dizzy:
Gotta go
